Chapter 208: I Miss Mommy

It was only three days left before the Shield breaks.

Paula, together with the assistance of Charlotte and Harper, had successfully made a considerable number of mech suits in the Mechanic Base.

Over fifty thousand suits had been made within a period of five days, thanks to the bountifully supplied machines and supporting workers from other countries.

Icelandia, Nestonia, Franch, Espana, Rusnia... Name it.

They had all joined forces to make this a success, not only because they knew that the world was running out of time, but because when the battle began, the only way to stop the enemies was to have those mech suits on.

After the fifty-four thousand suits were made, a production that cost up to 50 billion dollars, they were distributed to the soldiers.

Nortasia contributed 40% of the funds to this project, not because they were the ones who gave the alarm about the incoming threat, but because they had long become the richest country in the world.

Breaking the world’s record by making over 40 trillion dollars in a year, their rise had shaken the planet.

With Jayden even rising to the ranks and becoming the richest man in the world with 4 trillion dollars, he was undoubtedly the most powerful man on the planet.

He had proven that strongly the moment he defeated the strongest country in the world.

Nestonia would have been a considerable topic, but what would take him to Nestonia if he easily defeated Icelandia?

Nestonia and Icelandia had always been afraid to attack each other because they knew it would be deadly, not just for them but for the whole world.

This could indirectly mean that they had equal power rates, and even based on the news of their nuclear weapon collections, finding who’s better had been pretty difficult.

However, all that was in the past now, as the world was no longer divided — at least for now.

...

Not only were the mech suits made to defend the world, Jayden also suggested building the Aegis V in every country.

Of course, they wouldn’t risk sharing the secrets, so Harper had planted Nortasia’s own defense specialists that she had trained to do the jobs.

The air was defended, the soldiers were ready...

The world was ready.

When it was officially one day left for the shield to break, Jayden entered his room and made a call.

"Hey, Mel. How are you doing?"

"I’m doing great, Mister President. I’m so happy that you called," Melinda said on the other end.

"Yeah, it’s so good to hear your voice again. But umm, actually I called for something important — what we talked about earlier," Jayden said.

Melinda’s heart suddenly raced, tension quickly taking over her voice.

"Umm... What about it?" she asked with a tone full of fear.

"Cloudbridge might not be completely safe for you in a day’s time. So I was thinking you should come over to the capital," Jayden said.

"Oh... Really?" she asked.

"Yes, Mel. Actually, I also sent some men to pick you up. See you soon," Jayden said before ending the call.

But he wasn’t done.

Next, he dialed the headquarters of EC Consortium, his company, where Sabrina Jonah was currently in charge.

"Hello, boss... Sorry, Mister President. Good day. It’s been quite a while."

Sabrina had a lot to say for a greeting, but Jayden quickly talked her out.

"Okay, Sabrina. I just called for something very important — about what the Advocate said on television. It’s true, and I need you to come over to the capital right away. It might be the safest of places in the coming days until the war is over," Jayden said.

"Oh... Oh... Umm..."

"I already sent some men to pick you up. See you soon, sweetheart."

Jayden ended the call right at that point.

"Phew..."

He then sighed and headed out of the room, going straight to Charlotte’s office.

There, Charlotte, Temi, and Camilia sat to keep in touch with the satellite-powered watcher. The device had been made to detect any incoming entity from outside the planet, whether it was a threat or not.

In a few hours, they’d be expecting the Sovereign Protocols. So they had to keep watch to know when to get ready for the attack.

Charlotte had connected to all tech stations across the globe, not leaving a single station behind.

This war was every country’s to fight because when the enemy prevailed, not even a single city would be spared.

They all knew that.

"How’s it going?" Jayden asked.

"Nothing yet," Charlotte turned and responded. "But we have spotted some strange changes in the atmosphere. Feels like something has been on the ozone layer for quite a long time and is now breaking."

"The shield," Jayden muttered.

"Yes, definitely," Camilia nodded.

Temi nodded as well.

"So we keep close. We never let any bit of what happens around us pass by," Jayden said as he grabbed the walkie.

All stations clearly heard him and left their obeying responses at once.

Jayden soon left the office and went straight to Katie’s room.

She was there all alone, awake and leaning on the bed with her teddy bear pillow hugged tight.

She was supposed to be asleep by this time, but she was not. Temi would have thought she had slept after petting her through, but well... it was what to expect from a smart, worried little girl.

"Sweetheart, you’re still awake?" Jayden asked with a worried look.

"What’s wrong?" he added.

Katie still couldn’t say a word as she held even tighter, sobbing softly.

It was at that moment that Temi rushed in.

"She’s not asleep?" Temi asked with widened eyes.

"Guess she woke up after sleeping for a moment," Jayden said.

"What’s wrong, baby? Auntie doesn’t want to see you this way. It breaks my heart," Temi said as she faced the child with a sad, worried look.

It was then that Katie raised her head, her eyes already wet and about to drop a tear.

"I... I miss Mommy... I miss Dad, Vena, and... and Teresa. I want to see them," Katie said as she cried.

The sobs increased as she dipped her face into Temi’s arm, crying hard.

The emotion hit Jayden so hard in the chest that he couldn’t hold it, and he quickly walked out of the room with tears already dropping from his eyes.

He went straight to his room and grabbed his pistol before heading to the prison yard where Sofia and Liam were kept.

With his eyes completely red, he walked into Sofia’s cell and pointed the gun toward her.

She was stunned at how he suddenly dashed in, her heart skipped.

"Jayden..."

But before she could complete her sentence...

TARR!

He had already pulled the trigger.

Jayden broke down, but he held himself up as he walked to the next cell block where he entered and pointed the gun toward Liam’s skull.

At that point, Liam noticed him and laughed.

"I was going to tell you to kill me anyway. There’s no point in living again. We’re all going to die after all. I heard everything... Earth is so screwed," Liam said.

"You’re welcome..."

TARR! TARR!

And just like that, he pulled the trigger, gunning down the two people who had cost his nation more than it could bear.

Jayden couldn’t believe that he just killed his first love, but he wasn’t regretting it anyway.

The real Sofia died the moment she left him.
