Infinity Is My Affinity?!?-Chapter 118: A Morning In Life Of Nom-Nom
The morning sunlight filtered through the thin curtains, casting a warm glow across the wooden floorboards of the bedroom where Nom-Nom was currently sprawled across the mattress with her arms and legs thrown out at the weirdest angles possible while her blanket lay completely forgotten in a crumpled heap on the floor.
Letting out a long, rumbling groan, she slowly cracked her violet eyes open to stretch her limbs until every joint popped, before burying her face right back into the soft pillows and falling asleep.
And just when she was about to plunge into the river of chocolate, the bedroom door clicked open just a crack, and Peko popped her head into the room.
"Wake up!" she commanded before simply pulling the door shut behind her.
Nom-Nom let out another heavy groan, dragging both her hands down her face before she rolled over and happily closed her eyes again.
It only lasted a few seconds before Peko’s voice echoed from downstairs.
"Elena made tamagoyaki, miso soup, and grilled salmon," the Phoenix called out flatly. "You have fifteen minutes before I eat everything."
[Ahh... that evil little!] Nom-Nom’s eyes snapped open [She will actually do it!]
Throwing her legs over the edge of the bed, the Greatest of all Greater Dragons forced herself up with a heavy sigh and made her way toward the bathroom like an absolute zombie, keeping her eyes completely closed.
Standing blindly before the basin, she twisted the tap open and splashed cold water over her face, only for it to have absolutely no effect.
Groggily swiping a hand through the air, Nom-Nom pulled her toothbrush and a tube of paste right out of the inventory before squeezing a massive glob onto the bristles and shoving it into her mouth.
[Spicy...] she thought as her nose scrunched up at the sharp blast of mint.
Brushing until every single tooth was perfectly clean, she gripped the edges of the sink as she bent down, fighting against her most primal instincts to-
[Don’t swallow... Don’t swallow... Don’t swallow...]
With a massive effort, she leaned forward and finally managed to spit the minty foam into the drain. And after a very thorough gargle, she wiped her mouth and zombie-ly made her way downstairs.
The wooden stairs groaned slightly under her weight as she shuffled into the warm, sunlit dining room where Peko was already sitting at the far end of the table, taking impossibly tiny, fairy-like bites of her tamagoyaki.
[Ooo, look at me, I’m the most pristine little hen pecking at her grains. I’m so elegant...] Nom-Nom scrunched her nose.
"Did you read the book I gave you to finish before going to bed?" Peko asked without even looking up as the towering dragon-girl dragged her feet into the room.
"Mm-hmm," Nom-Nom mumbled blindly, pulling out a heavy wooden chair and crashing her upper body right onto the tabletop.
"Then what are the names of the two port cities on the mainland?" Peko asked, taking a delicate sip of her soup.
"Your left butt and your right butt," Nom-Nom answered deadpan, not even lifting her face from the cool wood.
"Is that so? I don’t remember that being the case... though it could be I read it wrong." Peko replied, raising an eyebrow as she set her bowl down.
"You did read it wrong."
With a small smirk, Peko simply pulled up the glowing blue interface of their shared Party Module as she said, "Oh, I know. Let’s ask the young master. He would definitely know the correct answer."
Nom-Nom’s head snapped up, her violet eyes going wide as her nostrils flared with deep, heavy breaths.
[AAAHH! I will eat her! I. Will. Eat her!!]
But knowing Master would definitely scold her if Peko told on him the answer she gave, Nom-Nom immediately deflated and slumped deep into the chair.
"Koukai and Minatogawa," Nom-Nom grumbled.
"I see... that’s what I read too," Peko said, flashing a smug smirk as she dissolved the interface. "Maybe you got confused."
Before Nom-Nom could reach across the table to strangle the damn bird, the kitchen door pushed open, and Elena stepped in carrying a steaming tray of food.
"Good morning, M’lady," Elena smiled warmly, setting a mountain of fresh tamagoyaki and grilled salmon in front of the dragon. "What would you like me to make for your dinner tonight?"
Nom-Nom kept her eyes locked in a unblinking glare directly at the Phoenix and replied-
"Chicken."
Completely missing the threat, or rather ignoring it, Elena nodded happily. "Of course, M’lady. I will have roasted chicken prepared for your return."
Seeing Peko not even bothering to acknowledge her existence, Nom-Nom finally dropped the solo glaring contest and picked up her spoon with a final humph before taking a massive, happy bite of the grilled salmon.
She didn’t actually feel hunger or need to eat to survive; Nico’s infinity had long ended her hunger, but eating was simply the best thing in the entire world.
Savoring the rich flavor, she cheerfully cleared her plates in record time before wiping her mouth and bouncing up from the chair.
"Thanks for the food!" she cheered, heading back upstairs.
She quickly pulled on the tight black shirt and black combat pants Nico had given her before reaching into her inventory and pulling out the massive greatsword and strapping it securely across her back.
Pausing in front of the mirror, she let her three massive black wings erupt from her back with a soft woosh and gave them a long, satisfying stretch before dissolving them seamlessly right back beneath her skin.
Fully dressed and looking perfectly adorable, aside from being seven-foot-two with glowing violet slit eyes, she bounded out the front door.
The wealthy beastfolk of Old Shinkotsu politely stepped out of her way as she walked down the paved slope into the bustling, chaotic lower districts of New Shinkotsu, where the busy market crowds parted for her.
And the moment she stepped through the doors of the Adventurer’s Guild, the hall instantly fell quiet as practically every eye locked onto her.
She paid none of it any mind, her gaze cutting through the crowd until it landed on a familiar pair of floppy blue ears.
"Mimi!" Nom-Nom called out cheerfully, waving enthusiastically from across the hall.
The blue-haired bunny beastfolk girl instantly shot up from her stool, a bright smile breaking across her face as she waved back with the exact same frantic energy.
"Morning, Mimi!" Nom-Nom grinned, walking over and leaning on the counter. "Can I get my permit for the Hollow Stone Caverns?"
"Good morning, Nom!" Mimi chirped, quickly sliding a stamped metal tag across the desk. "I’ve already prepared it! You’re really clearing that place out!"
"Master said to grind," Nom-Nom nodded proudly, pocketing the permit before waving goodbye.
Stepping back out into the street, she made her way out of the city gates. The moment she hit the open dirt road leading southeast, she bent her knees slightly and-
-Boom-!Crack-!
The ground shattered beneath her boots as she effortlessly broke the sound barrier and dashed towards the dungeon.
In barely a minute, she came to a sliding halt, kicking up a massive cloud of dust directly in front of a gaping, jagged cave entrance.
The fully armored knight stationed by the entrance damn near fell off his chair. And just as he was about to let out a curse, he recognized who stood before him.
Thanking his stars he hadn’t acted impulsively, the knight sighed before picking his chair back up and sitting there patiently for the Lady Dragon before him to approach.
Before walking over to him, Nom-Nom paused.
[Hey, System Can I buy a pre-workout snack first? There are these grilled gryphon skewers I’ve been wanting to try.... Just one little stick?]
-Ding!
{The requested item costs 500 Credits.
While you possess the spiritual authority to authorize this purchase, I highly advise you to consult Nico. He is currently economically stressed.}
Nom-Nom puffed her cheeks out, crossing her arms over her chest.
[Master was broke right now because he spent all their money keeping us safe... I will earn it all back tenfold!]
"Fine," she said before walking over to the knight who was sitting on his chair with the straightest back he had ever straightened, "I’ll just make us heaps of money and then buy a whole bunch."
Taking the permit from her hand with both of his, the knight hastily checked it before frantically scribbling her name into his ledger and passing it to her to sign.
"Thank you!" she smiled at him, stamping her signature with her adventurer’s card, before walking past the barricade and into the dark, damp cavern.
Reaching over her shoulder, she pulled her greatsword free with a heavy, metallic shing that echoed down the stone tunnels.
"Seventy percent straight into the inventory, thirty percent back to Guild," she recited out loud, nodding to herself before flashing a bright, fanged grin into the darkness as the low, guttural growls of the cavern’s monsters began to echo toward her.
"For grilled gryphon skewers!"
-Boom-!Crack-!
