Chapter 224: Just What Did You Eat?

Carol looked at Doreen and shook her head as she said, "You should know, we have not interacted that much. Even the issue of him buying shares of Vanguard Corporation, it is something that I just came to know now.

So, how do you expect me to know how many assets he has? It’s not like I am a prophet or something like that."

Doreen nodded, thinking that what Carol said made sense. Still, she looked at Carol and said, "Though, I feel that this is a chance for you. Previously, you said that you only mentioned being his girlfriend just because of your interest in music.

But now, think about it. Such a person, with such influence, and his willingness to help you out, don’t you think that he is a perfect partner? If you can become his girlfriend, just think how big you will be able to make it in the entertainment industry?

After all, in the entertainment industry, resources matter the most. As long as you have support, and the skills, you should be able to become very popular, and being the top singer in the world would not be a problem."

Carol could not help but glare at Doreen and said, "You should stop overthinking things. After all, not to mention that we don’t even know each other well, maybe helping me was just a by the way.

Additionally, apart from my looks, and voice, what else do I even have? After all, when it comes to music, I still need to depend on him for help.

With the family background that he has, how many women would be willing to get married to him?

Additionally, I’m already 24. He is still a teenager, what makes you believe that he would be interested in someone like me?

Anyway, I don’t dare to dream big, and I’m not someone who is ungrateful. With his help, I have managed to deal with the biggest problem of my career.

So, I will focus on my career as much as possible. But in the future, if he needs me anywhere, I will not hesitate to help.

With my current abilities, you should know, for someone with such a big background, there is not much that I can do. But as long as I become popular enough, maybe I can use my popularity to help him somewhere."

Listening to Carol, Doreen could not help but shake her head slightly. In such a situation, quite a number of girls would be willing to pursue such a young man.

Most of the times, girls usually wanted men to take the initiative, even if they loved someone. But in some situations, if someone delayed, there would be others that would snatch that person away.

This was just such a situation. So, she was quite sure that for Michael, quite a number of women, as long as they knew about the skills that he possessed, and his background, they would be much more willing to get married to him.

In any case, getting married to someone like that was almost a promise of a bright future. The only thing that might put a stain on the bright future might be if Michael’s personality was problematic. But, in the face of the benefits that he could grant, how many people would even care about that?

Though, she did not continue persuading Carol, as she understood Carol’s personality well. Since she had decided on this, it was impossible to convince her otherwise.

...

On the other side, Michael did not pay much attention to the issue regarding Carol for the time being.

Currently, he still had several industries that needed to be taken care of, so, he did not show much interest in the entertainment industry. Otherwise, with the ability that he had, he could easily purchase Star Media.

Additionally, Michael’s mentality had changed recently. That was especially after the purchase of Vanguard Corporation.

Michael came to realize that, it seemed to be quite better to just buy the best company in a particular industry right away, instead of starting slowly like with Sky Technologies.

With Vanguard Corporation, Michael could immediately implement his plans, without worrying too much. This would save him quite some time, considering that for a small company, it still needed to build a foundation.

As for the issue regarding the deck secrets of big companies, those could be easily dealt with after the acquisition of the company. After all, Michael had no any intention of being shareholders with others, something that might end up affecting the development of the company.

As for giving shares for the top executives, to acquire their trust, that was something that Michael did not need to do.

First of all, if someone within the company had the intention of betraying the company, they would be easily dealt with even before they could do it. After all, Onyx was capable of dealing with issues like that.

Moreover, Michael could easily purchase bio humans from the system store, in order for them to be able to hold a position for quite a while, as he looked for another person.

Of course, the core of the company secrets would mainly be managed by the bio humans. That way, the issue regarding betrayal would be almost avoided.

As for the possibility of his employees being poached, that was something that Michael did not even bother to think about.

In any case, not to mention the benefits offered, giving someone the chance to showcase their talent, the future of each company under him was bright.

Since that was the case, who would want to go to a competing company, that would end up losing to their former company?

Regardless, after dealing with the call, Michael continued with the acquisition of skills. Since he was determined to acquire the top companies from the start, he still needed to accumulate SP.

Of course, there was the usage of money, which could solve the issue of insufficient SP. But that was something that Adrian would deal with.

The stock market was rich, and it was not impossible for Adrian to be able to get quite a good amount of money from there from time to time.

Additionally, with the trend of the current businesses, very soon, massive profits would be coming in. At that time, the issue of capital would not be much of a problem.

Problems that money could solve, money would be spent. As for those that money could not deal with, it would be the time for SP to step in.

...

NEXUS secret training camp...

The training ground spread across uneven terrain deliberately left unrefined. Concrete sections merged with dirt and gravel, broken by steel structures embedded into the ground at irregular angles.

Every surface showed signs of use, scratches, dents, worn edges where hands and boots had passed again and again.

Obstacle frames rose several meters high. Narrow corridors forced recruits to move sideways or crawl. Sections of the ground shifted underfoot, while shallow water pits soaked boots and weighed down every step.

Numbered zones were marked into the ground, and a large digital timer counted continuously, indifferent to fatigue or delay.

The air smelled of dust, sweat, and heated metal. Impacts echoed across the field as bodies met reinforced surfaces, the sound carrying without anyone calling it out.

When the session finally ended, the recruits were scattered across the area.

Some stood hunched forward, breathing hard, hands braced against their thighs. Others sat where they had dropped, backs pressed to steel or concrete, uniforms darkened with sweat and streaked with dirt. Arms shook from overuse. Fingers cramped and released without conscious control.

Bruises formed beneath flushed skin. Minor cuts and abrasions were visible but ignored. No one spoke. Complaints didn’t surface, because there was no energy left for them to complain about the intense session they just had.

They remained where they were, recovering in silence, already aware that this was not the limit of what was expected.

Among the new recruits, Kate stood slightly apart from the others, shoulders lowered as her breathing slowly steadied. Sweat had soaked through her training uniform, the fabric clinging to her frame and darkened along her back and collar.

Dust and grit marked her sleeves and knees, ground into the material from repeated contact with the terrain.

A faint tremor ran through her forearms when she flexed her fingers, muscles tight and overworked but controlled. A shallow scrape lined her knuckle, the skin already reddening, and a bruise was beginning to surface along her upper arm where she had taken a hard impact.

Her hair had slipped free from its tie, damp strands clinging to her temple and neck. Despite the exhaustion written into her posture, her gaze remained steady with determination.

Standing beside her was another lady, who was dressed just like the other recruits in a dark uniform. But, as Kate looked at her, she could not help but feel amazed.

Lina remained upright even after such an intense session, posture steady and unstrained. Her chestnut-brown hair stayed tied back, damp with sweat but orderly, and her hazel eyes were clear and focused.

The dark training uniform fit close to her frame, reinforced at the shoulders and thighs, marked only by light dust. Sleeves pushed back slightly revealed firm, flushed forearms.

Her breathing was even, movements controlled, giving the impression that though the training had tested her, but had not truly pushed her limits.

"Just what did you eat when you were young? It always looks like in this entire lot, you are the only one who doesn’t seem phased by the intense training." After catching her breath, Kate could not help but ask, her voice expressing her admiration and shock.
