Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 413 - The Church of Lumienere
Chapter 413: Chapter 413 - The Church of Lumienere
He looked stunned due to the barrage of questions that I laid out for him and also a bit disheartened since I did not believe him but when he heard about what I requested from him afterwards, his mood instantly brightened and he started limping to the room at the back of what looks like the altar of the chapel. He was only gone for barely a minute before he came out again, limping and wincing a bit, but now hugging a thick book close to his chest.
I instructed him to sit first and drink one of my potions before I let him explain the content of the book. He drank the contents of the vial without confirming what it was. It was totally blind trust towards me and I could only helplessly sigh. Just a few seconds after drinking it, his eyes widened with a mix of confusion and realization as to why all the pain suddenly went away.
His brows furrowed but he never asked unnecessary questions. He proceeded with flipping the pages of the book quickly to find the page that he wanted to show me. When he found it, he hurriedly revealed the page of the book and told me to look at it while pointing at a portrait. What I saw in the book was a woman who indeed had a very similar face as I have but she was dressed in older style of clothes and must be a bit older than I am at the time the portrait was taken. Is there a chance that this is my mother or an older ancestor of Eieneos?
While pretending to admire the photos, I stealthily sent messages to several people to get more information on the current situation I am in. I sent a message to Eieneos to ask my mother if the "Church of Lumienere" rings a bell and if somebody got in contact with them that looks just like me before. I also sent a message to Noir and also to Void to find every possible information about this religious group as well.
It only took a few minutes for all the messages to be sent while I also finished checking on the portraits in the book at the same time. I looked at Clarence and confirmed, "This is definitely not me. It could have been my mother since I looked quite similar to her or maybe an even older ancestor. When was your church founded anyway?"
Clarence gave me a prolonged stare without saying anything. After what seems to be the longest minute in his life, he breathed in deeply then replied, "The church was first established almost seven centuries ago by a group of men that called themselves as people who were "touched by the goddess" or "blessed by the goddess."
I nodded my head in understanding and commented, "Your church has been around for quite a long time. Just so we are thinking the same way, what do you mean by "touched" or "blessed" when you said it earlier?"
He looked at me for a few seconds with wide eyes then his cheeks suddenly turned pink. He coughed a bit to hide his discomfort and responded, "For me to answer that question, I think it would be best if you have a little background of how we do things in our church. Our church allows men to either marry and then leave the church or just find a suitable partner to have a child with and return to the church to raise the child on their own as the next generation servants of Lumienere."
I furrowed my brows and asked, "You mean, the priests go out to look for mates and then come back, hoping that their efforts bear fruit. If not, they try again with another person? It means it can be anyone then. What is the difference with the touch and blessing of the goddess then?"
He answered, "The woman in the picture is the goddess. She does not age based on our records and looks exactly the same no matter how much time has passed. If you are saying that your mother looks like you or even your ancestors, I guess we can say that the goddess’ soul moves from one vessel to another to walk on the lands of the human realm. She then chooses worthy believers to give her grace and the honor to carry her children."
I couldn’t help but chuckle a bit and replied, "Oh, I guess "touch" means spending a night with them then "blessing" is spending the night with them then luckily ending up with a child. You have such a way with using words that it makes everything so clean and holy. That is very interesting! So, are you out of the church since you are looking for a woman that can give you a child?"
He looked stunned and then he quickly shook his head several times. He then defended himself as he said, "Uhh... No, I am just assigned to this village to spread our belief and help out those who are in need. I... Umm. Not looking for that."
I giggled and told him that I was just kidding. I really did not care about what missions he had for his church as long as it is not in conflict with my goals. Since there is nothing much to talk about, I bid my goodbyes and told him that I still have a lot of things to do so I have to go now.
Since it is already almost lunch time, I opted not to do the wall first because there are too many onlookers present. The first thing I did was go to the empty lot to start building the trading post. My body doesn’t need much human food anymore so I used the rest of the afternoon working on the structure. In the remaining time I had before dinner, I already made marks on the ground as to where the corner posts and gates will be placed for the wall. I will start the construction of the wall in the late hours of the evening once most people are asleep. freewebnσvel.cøm
After finishing my tasks, I went back to my rented house for a bit to cook my own meal and eat dinner. It kind of feels different as I am no longer used to cooking just for one person. I have been always cooking for a huge group recently. I think the smallest group was the one in the academe villa.
After the meal, I spent some time checking on some important business documents to kill some time. I have been making sure to listen in to confirm that most people in the village have already been asleep before I start the construction of the wall.
The village has no night attractions and most people are already asleep as early as 7pm since there is nothing much to do once it is dark. At around 9pm, I am already preparing to come out of the house to start the wall construction. It did not take me that much time to reach the borders of the town.
While making sure that all the magic spells are in place like soundproofing, making things almost weightless and even ground manipulation, I started pulling out some sturdy looking tree logs from my storage. It is good that I have great eyesight so I can still see the markings I placed earlier.
Just like what I did in Ersha, I made the walls in a hexagonal shape so it is easier to build and some of its faces can easily be made into gates. Since I started quite early, I was able to complete the whole wall by the time it is only a couple of hours before sunrise. Before the people woke up, I went back to my room and decided to just kill some time through reading again. The only thing left to fix would be the clinic later.
When the sun rose, I can here a lot of audible gasps as the people finally discovered the high wall that was now surrounding the village as their shield. When I thought that I can be lazy a bit more for the earlier parts of the day, an urgent knock was heard on the door of my temporary house.
I opened the door and saw that I have a couple of visitors which are Alf (chief) and his wife, Helga. They excitedly went in my house and they couldn’t wait but to ask lively questions on how I was able to build such a huge structure within a short period of time with no sounds of construction at all.
I have since enjoyed answering this question mysteriously or sometimes, I simply respond, "It is a trick of the trade", "Confidential information" or "It’s a magical secret" since nobody would really believe it even if I explain it to humans.
I want to have a few more hours of peace and quiet before working once again. I almost kicked out the couple from my personal space. Once they are gone, I started to enjoy the comfortable silence that I rarely get these days again.
