Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!-Chapter 415 - Working with Baggages
Chapter 415: Chapter 415 - Working with Baggages
Working in the middle of the night with seven watchers following you around really felt weird. They know I could use magic but they do not know exactly how I go about it whenI work so them being here is making things difficult for me. I respectfully asked them to keep their distance while I work to avoid any accidents from happening and they obediently did as they were told.
I started first with fixing the outside of the structure which everyone can easily see. I used simple spells for restoration and deliberately made my movements slower than usual so as to convince them that the things that the chief said before about me were exaggerated. I used materials found in their village too and not the special materials I have inside my storage. I would rather use that in the internal structure later when nobody is looking.
As the time for the curfew came, the commotion of me working outside and 7 men patiently sitting a bit away from me caught the attention of the chief and his wife. I do have the pass to stay outside at this time and besides I am not even a resident of this village but the rest of my companions except the persistent priest are required to follow the rules set by their clan.
As the chief approached the area where we all were, he asked out loud what the men were doing outside past the curfew time. He even berated them that if they have decided to follow me around, they should have at least helped me out on what I was doing. The last line made me chuckle since it was an indirect way of saying that these men are useless being around me. freewёbnoνel.com
Being called out like that, most of the men looked away from the chief who is also the patriarch of their clan. Clarence stood up as well as Kiste walked towards me to ask if they can help with anything. Being pressured by the first two volunteers, the remaining guys also stood up to help out.
I looked at the chief who has a mischievous smile on his face and surprisingly, he did not force any of the men to go home even if the curfew has already taken effect. Since everybody wanted to work, I gave them instructions on what to do for the outside which was technically just smoothing out the walls and repainting it.
As for me, I went inside the clinic to start working there. I used a spell to block the view of the people outside and all the sounds of repairs from the inside. I don’t want them to find out that I am planning for a total overhaul of the already rundown clinic.
With the time the 7 men used to finish the work for the outer walls as well as cleaning up the surrounding area, I have also completed everything that needs to be done inside the clinic. Since I still have time before sunrise, I went out of the clinic and made sure to fix the roads inside the village for better transporting of goods and to avoid villagers getting into accidents due to the uneven ground.
When I finally finished the streets and roads, I have also secretly finished the purification of the water sources. I simply placed runes in secret to the wells distributed around the village. I plan to go around the forest areas of this village for mapping and harvesting later. If there is a body of water nearby, I would purify that one too and maybe create a path through the forest like what I did for Ersha.
I came back to the clinic area just in time when the first rays of the sun are present. I saw the 7 men already sleepily leaning on nearby trees and walls. I thanked them for their help and bid them a "goodbye" and "take care on your way home" as I turned around and left the area.
It is heartless to leave them behind after they gave up their sleep and worked tirelessly on the clinic for the whole night. Think about it though, I did not force them and it is not like I will get the benefits of the clinic so it is like volunteer work for their own clan.
I hurriedly went home and washed up. I ate a meal from storage that is still as hot as the day I stored it there. I dressed up to go out of the village for hunting and foraging. This is my last task before leaving Rigden. I have many other places I have got to be in.
After the quick preparation, much to the surprise of the villagers, I ventured out of the village dressed as a normal forest worker. Many eyes followed me as I left through the eastern gate of the village in the direction of the lush forest area.
Once out of the gates, I freely used magic to travel quickly and avoid prying eyes. I walked around the forest, mapping it and taking note of all the plants and animals available in the area. I also did not forget to harvest and hunt. I will simply give a percentage of my harvest to the village so they won’t think I am taking advantage of them.
As I walked through the forest, I created a safe path for walking if ever people wanted to forage and hunt in the future. Just when I was already planning to leave, I heard the sound of running water from afar. I followed the sound and arrived at a small brook which I walked along side of, out of curiousity.
As expected it leads to a creek then onto the mouth of a bigger river. This river must be leading to the lake near Rigden and eventually to the ocean somewhere farther from here. It makes me wonder how oceans look like in this place. I suddenly remember my promise of visiting Cyreneia with Marius. I should make good with that promise soon while enjoying quality seafood, of course.
