Lucien stayed silent for a long time. He just stared toward Theo, who had a determined face.

Yet soon enough, a wild grin formed on Lucien's face.

"Gosh, I am so proud that you're a Merrick." He stated and finally told Theo how it would be possible.

"The only way you will be able to be in that gate with me, father, and Cedric is by proving your worth. The mindset and the craving of going there is one thing, but to have the ability to be selected is another."

"I need to go."

"Yes, yes, and for that, the next few months of your life will be a living hell. The most basic requirement of being there is to break through the level 5 cap. They want tamers to bring back unique beasts as their second tamed, so that becomes the first requirement." Lucien explained and pulled one finger before he pulled another one.

"Secondly, you need a recommendation letter from one of the Great Council members. Fortunately, our father is one of them. Unfortunately, his standards are too high. Even when you are unique among tamers, all he considers is your strength, nothing else."

Theo nodded in understanding. The requirements were too high. And even if his father was a member of this council, he knew how he was. In his mind, the standards seemed even higher than Lucien talked about.

"And even if father chooses you, the other council members will likely object. You will have to show your worth to them too." Lucien stated and moved forward. "But are you sure you want to disclose your affinity and the insect this early?" He questioned.

Theo went silent and thought about it.

"It was going to come out 2 years later anyway, elder brother. And we don't know what altercation might come up in that timeframe. But more than that, how much time do you think I have in those 6 months… to get selected?" Theo asked, his heartbeat increased.

The opportunity felt too much to just not even try for.

"… About 4 months at most. After that, there is a little training about finding treasured herbs, plants, and other stuff. There is an explanation about some politics too, from what I heard. So the selection has to be concrete till then."

"4 months…" It was Theo's turn to lean back on the chair. Every statement that Lucien made had made his motivation dwindle further and further.

"If… you really are focused on getting into the 25 tamers for the gate… I am willing to train you, Theo. But it's your own wish as to whether you need my help or not." Lucien commented, making Theo come back from his thoughts.

"Train me? That sounds great. But our affinities are different, elder brother. How will we go with it?"

"Our affinities being different is not a worry. What I want to train is you, your insect's skills, and both of your levels at the same time. Have you got any strategies for fights yet?"

Theo thought about it. He had read a lot of strategies but had only used some really basic ones.

"I know a few but haven't tried them, to be honest, elder brother. But the good thing is that the mantis is able to understand complicated things that I say."

"That's good. It means your bond has become better, and the creature's intelligence too. Have you used your affinity points?"

"Nothing. Both the mantis's and mine are still left to allot." Theo stated and was proud.

"That makes things easy. We will place them into anything that is weak. The only thing we have to focus on is that your basics should become strong, and at the same time, you should learn better things too. There is a lot of work to do."

"But wouldn't this hinder your training too, elder brother? The gates, as you said, are dangerous. Wouldn't it be better for you to train more too?"

"Hahaha, thanks for worrying about me, but I am fine, Theo. The only thing that I will focus on is the level of my beast's skills for the time being."

"I am curious about something," Theo asked in hesitance yet still continued, "Can you tell me how much experience points you need for leveling up to 8, elder brother?"

"That would be…" Lucien moved his palm above and looked at it before speaking, "It's 25,600 EXP, Theo."

"!!!!" Theo's eyes widened in shock. What he had thought about the levels after 5 and what he heard were totally different.

"PUHAHAHA…! I know, right? After the level 5 breakthrough, each bump in the EXP needed is ridiculously high. Oh, how I envy the lower needs below level 5, Theo." Lucien stated with a nostalgic expression, yet Theo was already too dumbfounded to care.

"But you have even more problems than just becoming stronger." Lucien spoke again after stabilizing. "You only had your awakening ceremony a while back, and if by any chance, you reach level 5 in such a small time, and you are strong too? It will have too much attention directed toward you, Theo." He stated with a grave expression.

"The more attention I have, the more it is possible to be in danger, right, elder brother?" Theo questioned.

"You got that right."

Theo stopped for a second, and for a moment, Lucien thought that he had changed his mind.

"But when has a Merrick ever been scared of some measly fame, elder brother? Please don't worry about that." Theo said, with a wild grin on his face.

Lucien was surprised. That smile resembled their father so much that he couldn't see much of a difference.

"You got that right too."

"It's decided then. When I get out of this situation, I will start helping you with everything, Theo. It won't be till next week, so I want you to progress your insect's abilities. Its main ones should be level 1 if they are not already by the time we meet again, got it?"

Theo nodded profusely, and after a prideful military handshake, he bid farewell.

'Another goal to look forward to… SHEESH, I AM TOO EXCITED!!'
