INTERSTELLAR ERA: MY MIND IS A LIBRARY-Chapter 31: VIRTUAL GAME 2
The green building stood tall amidst the ruin of the place. There were vines here and there, but they were few compared to the ones around.
Aldric was already there when Max arrived.
He was leaning against a concrete pillar, fully dressed in a combat vest with his arms folded. A rifle rested against the wall beside him.
"Where did you find all of these?" Max asked with furrowed brows, seeing as Aldric had not only managed to get there quickly but also get such exquisite weapons.
"I was lucky," Aldric said with a shrug.
"Well, that’s none of my business, do you plan on resting or winning?" Max asked, his voice raised more than normal.
Aldric smiled at this. "There are two inside the building," he said, pointing. "But is the pistol enough for you to confront them?"
"Don’t worry, it is more than sufficient," Max said with a smile before he ran into the building.
"He is crazy," Aldric murmured to himself before he turned to the channel.
As Max’s long-time friend, he knew exactly why he had shouted, and he provided the answer immediately.
"Amelia, what is your status?" he asked.
"I just got a shotgun, I am heading to the building now," Amelia’s tired voice came from the other side.
She could not understand why these old geezers were so serious when it was only a game.
"Good. Silas, what about you?"
"I am not coming, that place is too obvious," Silas replied calmly. "I will provide cover from where I am."
As if to show Aldric, a bullet shot through the wall beside which his rifle rested.
He nodded calmly.
"What about you, Alfred?"
"I will be there soon," he replied calmly.
But with how relaxed his voice was, Aldric knew he could not count on Alfred in this game.
"An enemy is approaching from the left side," Silas said calmly.
"We should cross paths soon, leave him to me," Amelia replied.
Shortly after, within Silas’s view, he saw Amelia pop out from behind the enemy.
Before he could even register the noise that came from behind, Amelia struck first, smashing the butt of her gun against his head.
It was an instant kill as blood and bone flew out of the skull.
"Done," she said calmly, not even sparing the corpse another glance.
From afar, Silas sighed at Amelia’s brutal method. "She continues to give me more reasons to fear her," he muttered with a smile.
"That’s one. Adding the two Max went to kill, we only have two enemies left," Aldric said into the channel. "Silas, you are in charge of tracking enemy movements, once Amelia joins me, we will chase after the rest."
Max nodded calmly, but Amelia had her doubts and followed nevertheless.
Inside the building, Max walked calmly, each step measured and careful to avoid drawing attention to himself.
’Was Aldric toying with me?’ he wondered. Having walked up to the second floor without seeing anyone, he did not know whether to continue or not. ’Whatever.’
Suddenly, he heard the crunch of steps coming from above.
A bright smile crept onto Max’s lips.
He removed his weapons, pistol in the right hand and knife in the left.
He reached the top in a few steps.
There, he saw the two enemies, one holding a sniper rifle targeting Silas, who was also locked on him.
The other one stood just at the top of the stairs, his rifle held in readiness to defend the other guy from any intruder.
As his gaze met Max, he was about to shoot when Max casually pulled the trigger.
The bullet traveled forward in an instant, piercing through the enemy’s head.
Then came another two shots.
Before the sniper could even turn, Max dashed forward, piercing through his head with the knife in his hand.
Casually, he flicked the blood away from the blade before returning both weapons to their straps.
"Told you the pistol was enough," he said to no one in particular.
"I have killed both of them," he said into the channel.
"I have located the last two, one is heading for Alfred, the other is at the far end of the map," Silas said.
"Oh, I can take him down then," Alfred said, cocking his AK-47 rifle.
Soon, he came face-to-face with the enemy, a huge human with a frame more than five times that of Alfred.
Before Alfred could even shoot, the man threw a rock at his hand, disarming him in an instant.
"We are men, let’s fight with our fists," he said, clenching his fists.
Alfred smiled calmly. "Okay, I will leave this to you, Silas," he said with a sigh before turning away. "Not like I had any plan to participate in the first place."
"How dare you turn your back in a fight?" the enemy roared, running and pouncing towards Alfred.
Swoosh.
The sound tore through the air. The next thing the man saw was blood spraying into the air before he fell to the floor limply.
"What were you saying?" Alfred asked, turning back. "Oh, you’re dead already."
He turned back casually, not even bothering to pick his rifle from the floor.
"Kill the last person fast, I have some unfinished business outside," he said into the channel.
"Everyone has done something, the last one is mine," Aldric said, running towards the end of the map.
Amelia followed behind.
[You have won the Game]
The screen suddenly appeared in their view, stunning Aldric as he froze mid-step.
"Did that bastard chicken out?" Aldric roared as his frame disappeared from the virtual world.
The pod opened with a cold hiss.
Everyone came out calmly.
Silas, as calm as ever.
Amelia looked unbothered, as if the game was nothing.
Max had the usual grin on his face.
Aldric, on the other hand, was furious. He had waited to kill the last person for aura farming, but who would have thought that he would quit before they even engaged?
Alfred was already running out of the hub.
Silas shook his head at this. "So much for our vice governor," he muttered.
