Invincible Dad-Chapter 687 - Who Are You Waiting For_1
The Faceless Demon no longer vied for control over Qian Xiao’s body. Instead, it fled the sea of consciousness, shrinking into a ball and trembling behind the little girl. It was waiting for the little girl to take care of Xu Lai, otherwise it dared not attempt to possess a body in front of this man. He had once brought it endless terror, like a nightmare.
No, that wasn’t right. Since entering the Soul Candle, the Faceless Demon hadn’t slept at all; it had been tortured to the point of wishing for death at every single moment.
"It’s you," the little girl said, tilting her head. Although she had to look up at him, neither her aura nor her presence was in any way inferior to Xu Lai’s.
"It’s you," Xu Lai repeated. From her, he sensed a familiar aura—that of the woman’s palm, whose power was comparable to the Emperor Realm. Even housed in a young vessel, it was impossible to conceal the thick stench of death clinging to her.
She’s definitely dead. It seems you were Jing Ke’s obsession, the reason he sought the keys to enter the Nine Kings’ Palace.
Sikong Jiu of the Heavenly Dao had once said that Jing Ke’s purpose in searching for the nine keys was to enter the Nine Kings’ Palace to grant a woman eternal life—or rather, to resurrect her.
"From which epoch are you, Emperor Realm entity?" Xu Lai asked directly. "Why possess Yun Jin’s body? For a mighty being of the Emperor Realm to seize the body of a Golden Core Realm cultivator... isn’t that a bit much?"
The little girl’s answer was even more direct. She lightly stomped on the Dragon Vein of Mount Fu.
In an instant, the landscape warped and the world tore asunder. She intended to destroy the entire planet! Forget a cultivator with power comparable to the Emperor Realm; even a Celestial Venerable could easily destroy a fragile planet like Earth.
Sikong Jiu of the Heavenly Dao awoke from a deep slumber. It panicked. Although it had always said, "As long as the Earth doesn’t explode, it’s not a big problem," this time it really was about to explode! In its panic, Sikong Jiu’s youthful face and voice carried a desperate urgency, "The Supreme Emperor, save me!"
In truth, Xu Lai would have acted even without Sikong Jiu’s pleas. This planet held the memories of his wife and daughter. How could he allow any harm to come to Earth?
Xu Lai’s Divine Sense surged forth, shattering the terrifying Spiritual Energy unleashed by the little girl’s stomp.
"You are an Emperor Realm of this era." The little girl’s eyes showed little surprise. After their last encounter, she had already confirmed Xu Lai’s identity—the Lord of the Heavenly Court, Xu Qingfeng!
"Yun Jin..." Xu Lai closed his eyes. When he opened them again, his memories of Yun Jin gradually resurfaced. His gaze pierced through the frail body before him, looking out into the starry sky.
In the vast expanse of space not far from Earth, a massive Bronze Coffin floated silently, its surface carved with intricate patterns. But the most conspicuous feature was the ninety-nine Golden Dragon Bones, all of which had belonged to peak Quasi-Emperor Realm powerhouses in life.
"Face me with your true self," Xu Lai said, his hands clasped behind his back. "As a mere wisp of a soul, you are no match for me."
"I am taking her," the little girl said, pointing at the soul of the Faceless Demon.
"Defeat me, and you can. If you lose, forget her. You won’t be leaving either."
SWOOSH.
The little girl’s body went limp and collapsed to the ground. The pallor and hidden aura of death on Yun Jin’s face vanished. Xu Lai knew the possessor had left.
Qian Xiao said nervously, "Uncle Xu, that’s Yun Jin, the one Big Sister was looking for."
"Yes, it’s her." Xu Lai nodded. He glanced at the trembling Faceless Demon, then looked away as his figure vanished.
「Meanwhile.」
Many people on Earth sensed the disturbance, their gazes turning toward East Sea City. But only one person could truly detect and follow the trail of Xu Lai and the entity in the coffin with their Divine Sense.
It was Divine General Taotie of the Quasi-Emperor’s Fifth Heaven.
「In the starry sky.」
Taotie saw The Supreme Emperor standing with his hands clasped behind his back. Before him was a Bronze Coffin pulled by ninety-nine Golden Dragon Bones, and Taotie’s eyes widened in shock. The First Divine General could sense an intimidating pressure from many of those dragon bones that made his own heart pound. This meant that in life, many of them had a boundary even higher than his own, above the Sixth Heaven of the Quasi-Emperor Realm!
"What a grand gesture. From the First to the Ninth Heaven of the Quasi-Emperor Realm, ten for each boundary," Xu Lai sighed softly. "And they were imprisoned and chained while they were still alive, wandering with the coffin for who knows how many tens of thousands of years."
What?! Even experts at the Nine Heavens of the Quasi-Emperor were reduced to servants pulling a coffin? Taotie was horrified.
"Sigh."
A cold sigh echoed through the cosmos. It was unclear if it came from the coffin, but the temperature of space plummeted in an instant. In a flash, the entire Star Domain they occupied was frozen solid!
The coffin lid lifted, and a slender, snow-white hand reached out.
"Stop playing tricks! Come out!" Xu Lai snorted, his Divine Sense transforming into a bolt of lightning that struck the Bronze Coffin.
RUMBLE!
Strange symbols flickered across the coffin, managing to block Xu Lai’s strike before gradually dimming.
"It’s no use," a cold voice drifted from the coffin. "No one can break this coffin open. Not you, and not... me." The voice contained a hint of an indescribably complex emotion. "Xu Qingfeng, I came today only to take that soul. I advise you not to meddle. It will only bring disaster upon you."
"What a coincidence." Xu Lai narrowed his eyes. "I’m the sort of person who isn’t afraid of so-called disasters."
"Sigh."
Another long sigh. The woman in the coffin seemed to be out of options. The hand extending from the coffin vanished instantly, only to reappear just three inches behind Xu Lai.
The Law of Space! Taotie’s scalp tingled, and he hastily retreated a million miles, terrified of being swept into the battle and silently slapped to death by that hand.
But the left hand behind Xu Lai was just a feint. The true killing move was the other hand, which shot through space to appear right before Xu Lai’s forehead. Two hands attacked him from both the front and back!
RUMBLE!
Xu Lai clashed violently with the two hands. The frozen stars couldn’t bear the aftershocks of a battle between two Emperor Realm experts and began to shatter! Fortunately, this was an uninhabited Dead Realm. Even if the cosmos collapsed, it was of little consequence and wouldn’t affect much.
WHOOSH!
The snow-white palm formed a seal, and a small, white jade drum appeared out of thin air. One hand held the drum, the other a drumstick.
THUMP. THUMP. THUMP.
Three drumbeats echoed like Heavenly Thunder. Even with his astonishing Divine Sense, Xu Lai was momentarily dazed. By the time his vision cleared, a golden dragon bone was already charging at him.
"Child’s play." With a single glance from Xu Lai, the corpse of the Dragon Race Quasi-Emperor, who had been at the Eighth Heaven in life, turned to dust.
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP.
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP.
...
The drumbeats continued, one after another, and under the control of the being in the coffin, the Quasi-Emperor dragon corpses relentlessly charged at Xu Lai, only to be pulverized one by one. In life, these Quasi-Emperors had been no match for Xu Lai; as mere skeletal remains dead for countless years, they stood no chance at all.
In less than twenty breaths, all ninety-nine dragon corpses had exploded, leaving only ninety-nine chains of unknown metal suspending the coffin in the void.
"You’re stalling," Xu Lai said, his gaze calm. "Who are you waiting for?"
