Invincible Snake Emperor-Chapter 127 - 125: A Bird Under the Eaves Must Bow Its Head
「Early in the morning.」
In the Tu family's backyard, a lovely young woman finished a simple exercise routine. Her brow furrowed. 'My little brother is getting more and more out of hand. He stayed out all night again.'
When Tu Xiaoyue woke up, she discovered her younger brother wasn't in his room. She went outside to check the doghouse and saw only Xiaobai lying there by himself. There was no sign of a snake anywhere.
'That little rascal. Did turning into a snake give him a rich nightlife or something?'
He was home so infrequently, it made Tu Xiaoyue worried sick.
Just then, she suddenly looked up. A gorgeous green cloud was drifting in from the horizon. It was stunning, like a beautiful work of poetry and painting.
As she watched, Tu Xiaoyue grew surprised. The colorful cloud was drifting right toward her. As it drew nearer, she realized it wasn't a cloud at all, but a bird slightly larger than a chicken.
From a distance, it looked like a long, flowing skirt sweeping the floor as it floated elegantly toward her, creating a beautiful scene.
A few breaths later, Tu Xiaoyue's eyes widened until they looked like they would pop out of her head.
The large bird flying toward her appeared to be a Peacock.
And just like that, under Tu Xiaoyue's stunned gaze, the Peacock flew down into the backyard and landed right in front of her.
"You're the slowest bird I've ever seen. And you call yourself the King of Hundred Birds? What a disgrace. You're an embarrassment to all of birdkind."
A Gold and Silver Snake jumped off the Peacock's back, its voice full of disdain.
The Azure Owl was so furious it wanted to fight the Snake to the death. "You can fly yourself! If you think I'm so slow, why did you shamelessly insist on riding my back?"
On the way down from the peak of She Mountain, the Azure Owl had been flying along when the Snake suddenly jumped off its back, hovered in front of it, and said shamelessly, "Can you fly any faster? You're damn slower than a sparrow!"
The Azure Owl was speechless. It was once again reminded of how terrifying this Snake was. 'It can fly?'
'It had just been about to say, 'If you can fly, then fly by yourself!''
But before the words could leave its beak, the Snake had climbed back onto its back and was arrogantly ordering it to fly faster.
Now that they'd landed, the Snake was complaining about its speed again. The Azure Owl was so furious it felt like it was about to explode on the spot.
It took a deep breath and quickly began to preen its feathers, which had been all ruffled by that damned Snake.
The Azure Owl was now a bird under the eaves, forced to bow its head. As someone else's pet, it had to endure all sorts of indignities.
'He didn't understand how his life had gone so wrong. He'd been perfectly happy eating a few Snake Gallbladders, and now he was reduced to being a Snake's pet.'
'Could this be karma for eating too many Snake Gallbladders?'
Tu Xiaoyue saw the Snake speak, which she could understand—that was her brother who stayed out all night. But the Peacock was talking too. What the hell was going on?
She was once again stunned, her mind a complete blank.
"Sis, why are you just standing there dumbfounded? Your little brother's home. Aren't you happy to see me?"
Tu Xiao'an noticed his sister's odd reaction.
Xiaoyue pointed to the arrogant-looking Peacock preening its feathers. "Xiao'an, can you please explain what's going on with this Peacock? I think I just heard it talk."
"Sis, don't make a big deal out of it. It's just a pet I picked up from She Mountain to use as a mount."
To be honest, Tu Xiao'an really hadn't known that a Peacock, the so-called King of Hundred Birds, could fly as slowly as a crawling turtle.
Its flight speed was comparable to a tractor.
Xiaoyue was astonished by her brother's casual remark.
'He got a Peacock as a mount from She Mountain, a place crawling with snakes?'
She couldn't quite wrap her head around it. All she could do was stare at the exceptionally beautiful Peacock, growing more and more fond of it the longer she looked.
'What a gorgeous Peacock! This is the first time in my life I've seen a real, live Peacock standing right in front of me.'
When the Azure Owl saw Xiaoyue staring at it, completely mesmerized, he grew proud. He raised his head, puffed out his chest, and began to strut back and forth to show off his beauty. His long tail trailed behind him like an elegant, noble, floor-length skirt.
'He had been scorned by a Snake; he had to reclaim some of his dignity as the King of Hundred Birds from this human.'
"It's so beautiful, Xiao'an! I love this Peacock!"
Tu Xiao'an zipped over and slithered onto his sister's shoulder, coiling himself up as if sitting on a stool. He looked at the Azure Owl and said, "Come on, fan your tail for my sister."
The Azure Owl shot the Gold and Silver Snake a vicious glare. A flicker of contempt crossed its face as it raised its head slightly, the picture of arrogance.
HUMPH...
With a single thought, Tu Xiao'an sent out a wave of his master's authority. The Azure Owl was instantly terrified, a fear that seemed to burst forth from its very soul.
It immediately became obedient and docile.
Its long, skirt-like tail fanned out magnificently. The unfurled feathers were brilliant and dazzling, a riot of color that was almost blinding. The feathers glittered as if sprinkled with translucent pearls. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
"Wow... It's so beautiful! Absolutely stunning! A Peacock fanning its tail... I've only ever heard people talk about it."
Xiaoyue watched like a total fangirl, instantly captivated by the Peacock.
This was just an ordinary display from the Azure Owl; he hadn't used his special power. If he had, Xiaoyue would have been instantly mesmerized, unable to pull herself away, completely at his mercy.
After a rather perfunctory display, the Azure Owl closed its tail fan and went back to preening its beautiful feathers.
Just then, a woman walked out from inside the house. "Yue'Er," she said as she walked, "what are you shouting about so early in the morning?"
Wen Qiu emerged with a rosy complexion. Ever since her lung cancer was cured, she'd been getting healthier by the day, looking younger and younger. Drinking the Killer Bees' honey water every day made her feel like she was returning to the prime of her youth.
"Mom, you came out at the perfect time! A Peacock! Quick, look, a Peacock!"
The sight of an arrogant Peacock preening its beautiful feathers met Wen Qiu's eyes, and she too was stunned.
"This... This is..."
"Mom, I bet you've never seen a Peacock before, either," Xiaoyue said excitedly, pointing at the Azure Owl. "Mr. Peacock, Mr. Peacock! Fan your tail again so my mom can see!"
The Azure Owl, with a look of pure contempt and arrogance, ignored her completely. 'What did they take him for? Some common attraction from the zoo?'
'Throw me a snack and I'll fan my tail for you? Is that it?'
'He was the noble and extraordinary King of Hundred Birds.'
A cold voice resounded in the Azure Owl's mind. "That's my mom. If you don't make her happy, I'll not only pluck all your feathers, I'll cook you for dinner. You better believe it."
The Azure Owl shivered. He looked at the middle-aged woman, then at the Gold and Silver Snake. No matter how intelligent he was, he couldn't figure out how a human woman could be a Snake's mother.
'What the hell? What kind of logic was that?'
He whimpered internally.
But again, a bird under the eaves must bow its head, and the King of Hundred Birds was no exception.
In an instant, he fanned his tail magnificently. The spread feathers glittered like stars in the heavens.
Wen Qiu and Tu Xiaoyue were instantly captivated, staring without even blinking at the delightful sight.
Terrified of being cooked, the Azure Owl cast aside all its arrogance and put on a desperate performance. With his tail fanned, he circled around Wen Qiu, doing everything he could to please her.
"Hee hee... so beautiful! I've never seen such a beautiful chicken in my life."
As Wen Qiu watched, she reached out to touch the Peacock's feathers. Normally, the Azure Owl would never let anyone touch his magnificent plumage, but this time, he was quick to react and immediately moved closer.
He had an expression that said, 'Go ahead, touch all you want. As long as you're happy.'
