Invincible through Touching Corpses-Chapter 113 - 112: This Is the Gap
After confirming Lin Xinghai’s identity, the attendant pressed a button. Instantly, a waitress in a cheongsam emerged from the Cloud Restaurant and respectfully led the group inside.
All the service staff inside the restaurant wore cheongsams with a cloud pattern, but there were subtle differences between the dresses.
Some cloud patterns had blue trim, others had silver, but the one who led them in had gold trim.
This was clearly a symbol of different statuses. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Lin Xinghai and his group were led to the central area of the restaurant, to several booths near the raised platform.
These booths were partitioned by simple, elegant wooden screens. The tables and chairs were carved from white jade, a stark contrast to the furniture in the outer area that was obvious at a single glance.
The sight made the women’s hearts pound with anxiety. ’Such decor and service... to find something this high-end in a post-apocalyptic world is just unbelievable. How many Points would a single meal here even cost?’
Led by the waitress, the group took their seats. A vintage-style menu was placed before each person.
The menu’s cover seemed to be made from some kind of animal leather, feeling very comfortable to the touch. When opened, each page felt like ordinary paper, yet the dishes were displayed as animated images. Lin Xinghai was quite amazed by this.
’Even something like this menu would probably have immense research value if I took it back to my own era.’
But unlike Lin Xinghai, the women were focused on something else entirely. Staring at the prices on the menu gave them a heart-stopping shock.
None of the dishes cost less than three digits. Even a simple Chilled Cucumber Salad was 588 Points.
As for anything that even came close to including meat, the price started at 1,000 Points.
Lin Xinghai was also surprised when he saw the prices. ’At this rate, a single meal could easily cost over ten thousand Points!’
This was an unimaginable sum for the average person. Even someone in a high-paying position at the Government Hall wouldn’t be able to afford a single meal here after saving for an entire year.
Of course, surprise was one thing, but Lin Xinghai felt no financial pressure. He had earned so many Points precisely so he could enjoy life a little in this post-apocalyptic world.
Besides, he discovered that this Cloud Restaurant was truly impressive. The menu was incredibly comprehensive; it even had seafood.
Lin Xinghai had no idea where they sourced these ingredients. He was certain that even the Star Shield Shelter didn’t have this wide a variety of food.
Of course, his curiosity didn’t stop him from ordering.
"I’ll have the Shredded Pork in Garlic Sauce, Kung Pao Chicken, Dongpo Pork Knuckle, Steamed Scallops with Minced Garlic, Stir-fried Spicy Shredded Squid, and Spicy Crayfish."
Lin Xinghai ordered all the dishes he wanted, then looked at Liu Miaomiao and the others. "Is there anything else you’d like to eat?"
The women shook their heads back and forth like rattle-drums.
"We’ll start with these, then. And please bring them out as quickly as possible," Lin Xinghai said, closing the menu.
"You are our restaurant’s most esteemed guests. Please rest assured, we will prioritize your order." The waitress took the menus, bowed, and hurried off to place the order.
Meanwhile, a stunned Ning Kai arrived at the entrance of the Cloud Restaurant.
He had followed Lin Xinghai’s group and saw them exchange a few simple words with the attendant before... walking right in.
It seemed like an ordinary scene, but it left him frozen in place for a long time.
Because Lin Xinghai shouldn’t have even been qualified to enter. But not only had he gotten in, he had brought five women with him. What did that mean?
It meant his privileges exceeded even those of a Second Level Mercenary Corps Leader.
’This... how is this possible?’
But it had happened right before his eyes.
"Hello, I’d like to ask, who was that gentleman who just went in? Why was he able to bring five beautiful women inside?" Ning Kai inquired.
After the waitress gave him a quizzical look, he realized his question was a bit inappropriate and quickly explained, "I just don’t recall there being such a prominent figure in the Shelter. I was just hoping to get acquainted, that’s all."
If this were a server at any other restaurant, he would have simply flashed his status and asked whatever he wanted. But the Cloud Restaurant was different. For a restaurant to operate on this scale, the power behind it had to be terrifying.
Its influence might not even be limited to the Star Shield Shelter.
Faced with such a behemoth, it was best not to offend even a single server if he could help it.
Upon hearing his explanation, a look of understanding dawned on the waitress’s face. "That person is a Divine Sharpshooter," she said.
"Shouldn’t the privileges of a Divine Sharpshooter be equivalent to a Second Level Mercenary Corps Leader? Why is he able to..." As Ning Kai spoke, he suddenly remembered that the man was from the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps.
And the Divine Sharpshooter in the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps was ranked second on the shooting leaderboards.
Sure enough, the waitress’s next explanation confirmed his suspicion. "Because the top three Divine Sharpshooters on the shooting leaderboards have the highest level of privileges."
Ning Kai felt a bitter taste in his mouth. Now he understood why the man had been so calm, even dismissive, when facing him.
"Sir, do you have a reservation?" the attendant asked.
"Yes, I do."
"Then please, come in."
In the end, Ning Kai could only bite the bullet and walk inside. There was no other choice; reservations required a 50% deposit, and it was non-refundable.
People like him, with lower-level privileges, generally preferred to make reservations. This way, the Cloud Restaurant would time it perfectly and prepare the dishes in advance.
Otherwise, those with higher privileges had priority for their orders, meaning people like him would essentially be cut in line over and over again.
Of course, aside from not wanting to waste the deposit, Ning Kai also wanted to see what kind of food the other party would order.
After all, even as a Mercenary Corps Leader, he had to budget carefully for a meal here. He had only ordered two dishes, and he only dared to pick items that cost around a thousand Points.
As for Lin Xinghai, even though he was a Divine Sharpshooter, being powerful didn’t necessarily mean he was wealthy.
He, a dignified Mercenary Corps Leader, felt the sting of ordering just two dishes. Meanwhile, the other guy had brought five beautiful women with him.
The thought inexplicably lifted Ning Kai’s spirits a little. He then followed a waitress in a blue-trimmed, cloud-patterned cheongsam inside.
Since his food was prepared in advance, he didn’t even have to wait two minutes before the dishes were served: a plate of Stir-fried Pork with Cucumber and a bowl of Mapo Tofu.
Two utterly ordinary, homestyle dishes, yet they were exorbitantly expensive.
Coincidentally, Lin Xinghai’s dishes started to arrive at that very moment. The first plate brought out was the Spicy Crayfish.
Ning Kai merely glanced at it, and his eyes widened. That was a dish worth 3,288 Points.
Then came the Shredded Pork in Garlic Sauce, Kung Pao Chicken, Dongpo Pork Knuckle, Steamed Scallops with Minced Garlic, and Stir-fried Spicy Shredded Squid. Every single one was a hearty, expensive dish.
The cheapest among them, the Shredded Pork in Garlic Sauce, cost 1,888 Points.
Ning Kai looked at the spread on the other table, then back at the tofu and cucumber in front of him. Suddenly, his own meal seemed completely tasteless.
’No wonder he’s surrounded by five beautiful women while I’m all alone. This is the difference between us!’
