Author Note.

Soon I’m going to post my new novel. It’s called... FOUND LOVE IN MISERY.

Hope that you like it and add it. It’s a light novel. With lots of fluffy moments.

...

"Are you sure that the man you meet is Ben Santos?" Jacob asked as leaned on the kitchen bar of his apartment.

Petal nodded her head and took out her phone showing the texting conversation that happened between her uncle and her. She stared at Jacob’s face who had a complicated look on his face.

When her uncle texted her this morning. He asked her if they could have dinner together. Feeling suspicious, PetaI decided to speak to Jacob about it. After all, This man that she hadn’t known all her life and he suddenly appeared and claimed that he’s her uncle. Things were quite suspicious.

"Tell him to send you the restaurant location. I will come with you as your bodyguard. If he is Ben Santos. Then you will be lucky PetaI. This man’s world in both the mafia and business world is like a sword. Unlike Henry. Ben made more friends than enemies." Jacob said as he picked up his coffee taking a sip from it.

Hearing this. PetaI wondered if she will have a family again after her mother. She wished that this uncle of hers would be a good man and compensate her for all the bad things that her father did. She hoped so.

Picking up her phone. She texted her uncle for the location and he sent it to her. The dinner was at seven so she still had two hours to get ready.

...

Petal sat in the living room after she got ready. Watching as Jacob loaded his gun before he tucked it to his waist inside the holster. At that moment a question came to her. Is Jacob going to spend the rest of his life guarding her? He too has the right to move on and has a life just like her.

She felt as if she was being a bad person. Jacob sat across from her noticing the frown that appeared on her face as she was thinking about something."What are you frowning about?" He asked, placing another gun on the table. It was a smaller one compared to his.

"Nothing." She replied, signaling. "What is this?" She asked, pointing at the gun.

Pushing it towards her. Jacob said."This is for you. In case anything happens."

Petal picked up the gun looking at it. Jacob stood up walking towards the table and brought something."Tie this around your thigh and tuck the gun in it. No one will notice it. Hopefully." He instructed and she nodded her head.

Petal thought that Jacob was overreacting but she knew that he was doing this for her own good.

"You still know how to use it right?" He asked her.

Petal turned to look at him and said. "Would you like me to try?" She asked with a smile on her lips. Assuming him.

Jacob didn’t have to. He was the one who trained her and he was the one who discovered how good she is at shooting targets. Petal is a natural at using guns. She could shoot targets effortlessly, Hitting the points with ease. He had witnessed himself. He kept it a secret from Henry.

------

Petal and Jacob reached the restaurant ten minutes early before the dinner appointment. Walking right behind her. Jacob looked around him, scanning the place with his eyes. He tried not to show it but he was worried. He was worried that this was an ambush from one of her father’s enemies. But when his eyes landed on the table that an old man was sitting on. He sighed in relief.

It wasn’t a lie. He is Ben Santos in the flesh.

"My dear niece. I thought that you will not come." Ben said as he stood up welcoming her.

Petal smiled at his words. She felt as if there was warmth emitting from him. Or maybe she feels this way because her father never treated her this way.

Jacob was standing not far away from them. Observing the old man closely.

Ben pulled the chair for her and she took a seat on it."I see that you have brought your personal bodyguard with you. Am I that scary?" He asked, laughing slightly as he took a seat in front of her.

"I need to be careful." Petal replied, signaling to offer him a smile.

Petal chuckled and nodded her head."Smart girl just like your uncle." Ben said, eating another smile from her.

"Let’s order the food. I’m hungry." Ben said as he waved for the waitress."Pick anything you like." He said to her,

Petal nodded her head and picked up the menu reading it. When the food arrived. Petal saw Ben taking a medicine bottle from his pocket and taking a pill from it. She wondered if he was sick but she felt it would be rude to ask him.

"Tell me. Where do you live now?" Ben asked as he ate the food.

Petal turned to look at Jacob before she turned to look at Ben."I live with Jacob now." She replied.

Ben’s eyes shifted to the boy who wasn’t far away from them and said.``He seems loyal to you. But I do think that it’s improper for a young girl to live with a single man all alone." He pointed and put another spoon of food in his mouth and started to chew on the food.

Petal placed her fork and knife down glaring at the old man." Jacob is a brother to me. Besides, we don’t live in the old days. I would like you to respect him." She said signaling.

Ben wiped the corner of his mouth with the napkin and put it down." I didn’t offend him. I’m just pointing out the facts. I’m talking about that Willson boy too. You shouldn’t be around him too. But from what I heard the two of you are close." He replied to her words.

Petal felt a little uncomfortable discussing something like this with someone she just recently met." It’s something personal. I do not want to talk about it." She replied and saw him nod his head.

"You know. You resemble your mother when she was younger. She was a good woman." Ben said, feeling his heartache at the memory of her.

After all, No one knew what the two of them had shared. But everything was taken from them too soon.

Jacob’s eyes narrowed, noticing something. Ben’s eye color was the same as Petal’s. He had seen him before but his eyes were blue in color, not hazel. He frowned as he thought about this.

"Were you close to my mother?" Petal asked.

Ben’s grip on the wine glass tightened at her question. Close was not the word that he would say."Yes. We lived in the same house for three years before I had to leave. She was a very quiet person." He replied and saw Petal smiling.

He didn’t know the relationship between the mother and the daughter but it looked like it was a strong one.

"Why did you have to leave?" Petal asked.

Ben smiled a bitter smile remembering the day he left. It was the most painful day in his life."Because I had to." He replied.

Petal understood that he didn’t want to talk about It so she didn’t ask further.

"Now. Let me tell you why I suddenly appeared in your life. You must be wondering about that." Ben said as he put the wine glass down.

Petal didn’t say anything and waited for him to speak.

"For a long time, I wanted to be part of your life as I hadn’t a family of my own. My brother Henry hated me for many reasons that I will tell you about in the future. I always wanted a daughter to dote on and take care of me when I grow up. So, Do you accept me as your father?" Ben asked, smiling at her.

Petal was both shocked and surprised by his words. A father who will treat her well and love her for who she is. This is something that she always yearned for. The fatherly love that she never felt.

"I have one condition. I don’t want my life to be restricted." Petal said to him signaling. Her father had restricted her life for a long time. She doesn’t want to live that life again.

Ben’s lips curled up at her words."I’m not like Henry. You will have your full freedom plus my protection. With numbers of enemies your father made. Some people will try to hurt you in revenge for what he did." He explained.

Petal’s eyebrows creased as she turned to look at Jacob. She wasn’t aware of this before. She suddenly felt scared.

"Don’t worry. I have been keeping an eye on you. No one will harm you." Ben said, seeing the worried look on her face.
