John Wicked: Endlessly Evolving My Pet Monsters-Chapter 16: Night
Chapter 16 - Night
Alfred dug its claws into the tree and ran vertically up above by exerting its physical strength, soon arriving on the same branch where Yuna was fighting.
Although surprised, Yuna continued to focus on her battle as there were five Silverwind Eagles, with one that Pymon killed and four others.
With her Blazing Wheel Technique, she moved around nimbly and coordinated with her Silverwind Eagle to dodge and attack.
Pymon only occasionally participated as per Yuna's order.
By the time she finished her battle, Alfred had dropped a bunch of sub-branches down, each one the size of a grown pine tree's trunk.
Yuna descended and saw John and Alfred neatly cutting up the logs with skill. Well, only John used skills in a controlled manner, but Alfred could cut them by extending a blood-blade from his claw and cutting them like a knife cutting through butter.
"Wow, it looks like you know what you're doing," Yuna raised her eyebrows seeing the various sizes of wood blocks.
"Of course, I am going to a solid wooden hatch," John smiled. 'I need to prevent those Emperor-rank Tamers from watching me.'
"I'll build yours too, but they wouldn't be as good as mine; I'm telling you in advance."
"Ehhh? Why?"
"Building mine would take roughly four hours. I can't spend eight more hours building yours. I'll cut up the logs so you can build one however you like. You must have learned how to make one, right?"
Yuna wryly smiled and looked at the big pile of logs and cut-up wood. "Yeah, but it's nowhere near the scale of what you're building."
'Gotta use the knowledge I have from Earth,' John internally chuckled.
"Hey, guys! You left me alone!"
John turned to the voice and saw Max stopping while panting. "Glad I found you faster."
"Didn't you see the arrow I created on the ground?"
"What arrow?"
"..."
Shaking his head, John turned to Yuna. "Anyway, there's another entrance to the cave, a very short and easy one, and it led me out from that spring. We can't camp in the cavern since it would get filled up with water, so I decided to start building one here."
"Oh, nice, nice. We'll help," Max said and summoned Maxon.
"If you two follow my instructions, we could build a solid camp with three solid hatches."
"Perfect, what do I need to do, boss?" Max grinned.
"I'm on it," Yuna nodded.
John smiled. "Good. First, start by gathering more branches while I refine these ones."
"More?!"
"Damn, what are you building, boss?"
"This just looks like more, but once we start building, you will know. Also, did you get the fruits? I'm hungry."
"Yeah, here," Yuna suddenly took out an arm-sized bag out of nowhere, startling John and Max.
"Pymon collected many things, so I decided to put them in this," Yuna showed a ring on her finger while smiling. "It only has 5 cubic meters of space, but it's good enough to store food."
"So it was a Magic Item. Rich lady, indeed," Max laughed.
"Alright, now you two go bring more branches," John said as he grabbed the bag. "I'm going to wash these and eat them."

...
Time passed as the sun began setting gradually, while the camp began rising.
The other 16-year-old kids passing by couldn't help but be amazed watching the camp as it was built.
In the end, it took six hours to complete the camp, which was still fast thanks to everyone working together with their Pets.
Three big hatches, a campfire area in the middle, there was even a toilet box that John decided to make since he didn't want to find a 'hidden' spot to shit.
The hatches had windows that could be closed and doors. A crude wooden fence protected the camp, which was easy to overcome by jumping for monsters, but it was better than nothing and looked good as a border for their camp.
Since it was almost eight o' clock at night and the sun had set, everyone had lit up campfires. The whistles of Eagles above and the cries of monsters occasionally rang amidst the chatter of kids.
Monster meat, especially the fish, was tasty, so everyone was having a barbecue at their respective camps.
After eating, everyone began sleeping gradually with Monster Pets, but not at once. It was true that Monster Pets could become alert even while sleeping, but these were Bronze-rank Monsters, and the night could be dangerous, so another reason to team up with other students was to sleep in turns.
Monster Pets could stay up, and entering their Master's soul space meant resting, so Monster Pets of those who slept stayed awake and would sleep once their Master woke up.
John also decided to stay awake with Pymon while he let Alfred fall asleep.
Still sitting at the campfire after two hours, John saw the fire going down slowly, and the pile of wood was also empty, so he brought more wood from the storage unit filled with wood to fuel the fire.
Bored, John looked into the sky and saw bright stars like a blanket of sparkling lights covering the night sky.
Raising his hand in a grabbing motion, John smiled, 'My journey has just started, but I have a feeling I'm going to have a lot of fun.'
He spent the past 16 years living in a small kingdom's capital, living like trash again, but this time, he had a future to look forward to, so he lived ardently, improving himself, training, and working to make sure he fed himself properly, as he didn't want to be malnourished and physically weak when it was time to become a Tamer.
'Silver rank... I don't have Silver Essence Coins, and I don't want to borrow them, so the only way to break through is to use that second method.' John's eyes sharply glinted.
Most of the students didn't have Silver Essence Coins with them, so if they wanted to survive past the 5th day, they had to break through with the second method.
The second day was going to be a bit tougher because the ones in charge who had sealed apex bronze-rank predators in this forest, would get unsealed.
The third and fourth days would have an increased number of Prime-stage Bronze-rank Monsters.
On the fifth day, the Silver-rank Monsters would start to appear, and that meant disqualification of all students who couldn't make their Pets or themselves breakthrough Silver-rank.
After all, It was almost impossible for Bronze-rank Pet Monsters to defeat Silver-rank ones, unless it was a group of Bronze-rank monsters against one Silver-rank.
Whistle!
Pymon arrived with a cry, holding two Rabbit monsters in its talons.
"Want to barbecue them?" John chuckled. "Alright. Sit and wait."
The cute eagle quickly nodded with shining watery eyes as John began skinning the rabbits with a rock knife he had neatly created after cutting up a rock.
"Mhm, this type of rabbit is going to be tasty. If only I had some spices here, sigh."
