Journey of the Fate Destroying Emperor-Chapter 1575: Suspicious Attack
"What do you want?" Dugu Baitian asked.
"The plan has changed," Ying Zheng said.
"What do you mean?" Ying Zheng’s body straightened up.
"Something happened that we must speed up the pace of the plan."
"This was not part of our deal," Dugu Baitian said softly, but his demeanor was as harsh as the coldest winter.
"I don’t really care," Ying Zheng replied. "I will begin Maitreya’s distraction. When the time is right, I will send you the signal. Whether you act or not is up to you." Ying Zheng did not wait for a reply and ended the conversation.
"Does this bastard think I’m one of his servants?" Dugu Baitian said with gritted teeth. He gripped the throne’s armrest so hard that it disintegrated, releasing a slight spatial fluctuation in the process.
Dugu Baitian exhaled. He slowly stood from the throne and flew to the window. He gazed in the distance, lost in thought. He wondered what made Ying Zheng change his mind all of a sudden. Dugu Baitian was frustrated because he was the weaker hand in the negotiation with that bastard, Ying Zheng.
’[Fate] — you dare become a stumbling block in my path? Fine. I will conquer you,’ Dugu Baitian sneered. Emperor Kong might have destiny on his side, but with enough strength, he can overthrow all the destiny bullshit and eliminate this trouble.
Destiny is not absolute. If it has to pay too much to keep Kong alive, it will just select another candidate. And when the right time arrives, Dugu Baitian plans to bring despair to Kong, showing [destiny] it chose the wrong person.
Qin Royal Palace:
Ying Zheng opened his eyes. Now that everything was set, he only needed to wait for the right time to eliminate Wu Hong. Ying Zheng turned his head eastward. ’I can’t believe you can resist such a temptation and leave. It seems destiny is trying to protect you, but it doesn’t matter. I just need to accelerate things a little.’
Ying Zheng sneered. He closed his eyes for a few seconds, but then, he suddenly sensed something. "What is it?" A figure ascended from his shadow.
"Your majesty, we’ve intercepted this thing."
Ying Zheng raised his hand, and the letter flew into his hand. He did not touch it directly, but protected his hands with his power as he slowly opened it to read the content.
"It seems fate is smiling upon me," Ying Zheng muttered. "Anything else?"
"We caught a few people trying to investigate Lady Jade Butterfly."
"Who is it this time?" Ying Zheng asked.
"It’s the First Prince."
"He controlled himself long enough," Ying Zheng sneered. "He probably thought this was the best time since I would be occupied."
"...How should I deal with this situation?"
"Keep an eye on him. I want to know who it is and whether they are trying to interfere in the affairs of our court, or the affairs of the Eternal Ascension World."
"As you wish."
Southern Emperor Palace:
Shen Tian was in a meeting to organize all the positions of the Divine Faith Haven. However, anyone who knew him well would be able to tell he was distracted. As a Deva Race, he is loved by Heaven and Earth, making him sensitive to laws and upcoming danger.
For a while now, he has felt a looming threat of malice. At first, he thought it was the result of the upcoming disaster. However, after his revival, he realized someone was plotting his death and the extermination of his [Heaven]. Shen Tian has been suspicious of Wang Wei and the Dao Opening Sect, but he cannot understand the latter’s motif. He could not possibly wish to eradicate their faction because of the small contradiction regarding the mortal civilization.
He has analyzed Wang Wei’s character deeply. While the latter has shown signs of being petty, he values rationality and benefit above everything else. In other words, after the Divine Faith Heaven apologized and paid compensation, he should have let it go. But instead, all their participants mysteriously died in the Mortalhood Trial, preventing them from birthing a new generation of Paragon.
’Should I eliminate the source of the problem?’ Shen Tian thought. While this idea was tempting, the possible repercussions made it useless. Killing such a vital member of the Dao Opening Sect will only result in the destruction of the Divine Faith Heaven in the name of revenge, therefore, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.
’No, I can’t be so careful to the point of cowardice in this situation,’ Shen Tian thought. ’If he is the source of my unease, I must eliminate him. However, I can’t leave any clues behind or traces that point toward Heaven.’
Shen Tian strengthened his body. He looked at one of his advisors. "How are the negotiations with the Limitless Exchange Hall?"
"There might be a problem," Divine Hao replied.
"What do you mean?"
"Old Man Black Chess was excited about the premise of an alliance, but after the assembly, he appeared more lukewarm."
"Why didn’t you report this to me?" Shen Tian asked with a slightly raised voice.
"Supreme God, my apology," Divine Hao immediately said. "I haven’t confirmed anything yet, so I wanted to meet him a few more times before reporting the situation to you."
"No, I must talk to him myself," Shen Tian said as he stood.
"Sir, you can’t."
"Why not?" Shen Tian looked at him harshly.
"You’ll appear too desperate and give them the leverage," Divine Hao said.
"You’re right," Shen Tian said, sitting back. "From now on, report every detail about the negotiation: do not leave out the tiniest detail."
"It shall be done as you will it."
...
Wang Wei sat cross-legged in a private room inside the Origin Carriage, reviewing everything. Many significant events occurred that would fundamentally change the world, and he wanted to be diligent to prevent missing anything important. As he was deep in thought, his danger sense activated, and he discovered the carriage was surrounded. Wang Wei frowned as he teleported to the main room.
"Someone had the balls to attack our carriage?" Yan Hai sneered. "Whether out of stupidity or bravery, I will reward them with their death." She raised two fingers to prepare for a devastating attack.
"Hold on," Wang Wei stopped her. "Something is weird about these people." The attackers were all dressed in black, with blank facial expressions as if they were puppets, and deep red eyes like a starving beast.
"You mean besides the strange aura from them being Heaven Will Paragons?" Yan Hai asked.
"Let me take a look." However, as soon as Wang Wei started peeping, these people reacted and began attacking the carriage. Yan Hai did not move, allowing the formations to do the hard work.
"What a nasty curse," Wang Wei said with a cold breath.
"What curse?"
"As long as you kill any of them, they will release a curse that instantly corrupts your Grand Dao Source."
"Instantly?"
"Whoever created this curse used the Heaven Wills that these things cultivate as the source of the curse. Their purpose is to corrupt the enemy and force them to reincarnate."
"That’s indeed terrible," Yan Hai frowned. No cultivator can escape the Heaven Will, meaning this curse is unavoidable for all Emperor Path cultivators.
"No, it’s even worse than I thought," Wang Wei added. "You don’t have to kill these things to release the curse. As they fight you, they will slowly memorize your aura to release the curse into your Grand Dao Source."
"In other words, these creatures are weapons of war, and they have probably been tested and applied in previous wars," Yan Hai frowned.
"Yes. Whoever created these things is a genius, and they have most likely already used them in wars and perfected their destructive capabilities," Wang Wei nodded.
"It seems the disaster is nearer than everyone thought," Yan Hai said as she summoned a small pagoda in her palm, preparing to seal these creatures/war weapons. However, she hasn’t had time to act when a supreme consciousness manifests between Heaven and Earth.
A golden palm materialized in the sky, taking away all these war machines with one swoop of the hand.
"Even she was alarmed? It seems the situation is serious," Wang Wei commented.
"Not everyone has your insight, so if she doesn’t act, many people will suffer," Yan Hai said. Even someone like her almost failed for this plot. Now, she was confident that her intuition would have warned her at the last minute, but it could also be too late.
"True," Wang Wei nodded.
"Let’s return to the sect."
Future Buddha Saint Palace:
Maitreya observed these war machines in her palm. ’A potent power of destiny hid them from my sight.’ She frowned as she followed closely. ’This is the first time I’ve seen such a pure power of destiny — this is also the first time I’ve caught signs of these people’s movements. Could I use it to my advantage?’
Information is crucial in war, and unfortunately, the Eternal Ascension World is woefully unprepared for this upcoming war.
’Maybe I can use this power of destiny to divine more information about the upcoming invasion.’
