Kami-Jutsu: The Yakuza's Son is Aware-Chapter 32: Humans Really are a Nightmare
This one was too dangerous to keep around anywhere else. Down there, even the demons wouldn’t dare lay a finger on her.
"Jo..."
Hm? She was muttering something under her breath.
I stepped closer, leaning in with one hand pressed against the side of my skeletal, non-existent ear so I could catch her words.
"OJOU ASKED ME TO RETURN BACK TO LIFE!"
Her eyes suddenly burned a deep, unnatural purple. And h-her face... Yikes.
That face was nightmare fuel.
Her shriek rattled my poor old bones like they were brittle sticks in a storm. Then she bolted upright, bursting off the chains I’d willed on her, then dashed away, moving faster than turbo granny herself!
I stayed crouched there for a moment, still shaken, holding my knees and quietly questioning all my career choices. But once I pulled myself together, I decided it was time for revenge.
Not by fighting her, though. No, she was far too dangerous for that.
Instead, I’d call in one of my old friends. Someone even more powerful than me.
Mwahaha, foolish human!
"Uhm... Arachne? Yes, yes, I’m doing fine. Of course! Oh, and I sent him to Baba Yaga the other day. Anyway, I actually need your help with a troublesome human soul. Sorry to bother you, but this one is stronger than I am—or at the very least she’s going to drive me insane. Thank you. She’s at the mouth of the realm right now. sorry for the inconvenience."
Ugh. I was indebted to her again.
But it was worth it. I really needed to start tightening security and laying down stricter rules before this sort of thing became a habit.
*
A day or two later, I heard an enormous explosion somewhere above my domain.
It sounded eerily close to the gates of hell.
"Oh no. Don’t tell me... are those two still fighting? Impossible!"
Jeez. I had been just about to sit down and watch "Who Wants to Be a Demon Duke," too.
I dragged myself out of the bloodbath, threw on my robes, and flew straight toward the noise.
And wow... the scene was something else.
When I arrived, I caught sight of the human sprinting out of the realm and diving headfirst into a massive violet portal.
The cave-like mouth of hell itself was a wreck. Arachne and her children had been blown apart, their spider legs and patches of skin stuck to the walls like some twisted interior decoration.
I turned to look at the tomb-sized head of Arachne. She was... dead.
It would take her a century or two to pull herself back together again.
Which meant I needed a century or two to brace myself for the earful I’d get once she revived.
SIGH.
Humans really are a nightmare to deal with. I hate this job.
Well... time to head back and watch TV in the bathroom!
Tomorrow’s problems can wait until tomorrow.

"Please, wait a minute, Ken-sama!"
Mai suddenly stood up, her expression unusually serious.
"Don’t worry, Mai," I told her, keeping my voice calm, "I have no intention of disposing of you or anything like that. If you want to be a godman, then you can be one."
"That’s not it!" She shook her head sharply, her voice urgent. "I wanted to plead on behalf of Ojou... P-Please don’t punish her. At least hear her out first."
"..."
Hmmm. I hadn’t actually planned on punishing her, but...

After Najimi had left my room on the day I told her she could accompany me on missions only if she proved herself with results, I assumed she would lose interest and give up on the idea entirely.
For months, she remained completely silent about it.
Kamijutsu was not an easy path to follow. According to Ferry, I had been fortunate—my own position as a Chosen One meant I had advantages others didn’t. So, naturally, I assumed Najimi had hit the wall and abandoned the challenge.
But little did I know... she was secretly working on turning someone into a godman.
And she hadn’t even used the conventional ritual.
Things could have gone terribly wrong. Mai—our cousin—could have truly died.
I will admit, I was both impressed and surprised by Najimi’s accomplishment. Creating a godman manually was no small feat.
But she also needed to understand the weight of the razor-thin line she had walked. She put far too much faith in her own genius.
I glanced at Ferry, who simply shrugged.
(Just hear her out, I guess.)
Fine. Let’s hear what she has to say:
"So? Why should I not punish my little sister for killing our relative?" I asked at last, and Najimi quickly shot a glance at Mai.
From the way she reacted, I was certain she had just realized Mai was related to us.
That was hardly surprising, considering how Mai had mostly been treated as just a maid in this household.
"Ken-sama," Mai began, her voice trembling slightly, "when I was in that dark, terrifying place, I was completely alone and scared. I thought I would never come back. Every so often, I would be attacked—by skeletons, by monsters, even by... seducers—and I was trapped over and over again."
Her eyes glistened with unshed tears. "But... what kept me emotionally stable... what made me keep struggling to move forward... was Ojou’s orders. Her voice guided me out of that horrible place."
"...You mean... the place she sent you to in the first place?" I asked dryly.
"..."
Mai began to break into a nervous sweat. "My point is... Ojou is a good girl who only wanted to impress you. So please, don’t tie her up and lick her all over!"
Ferry immediately opened his mouth, his eyes widening in shock. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Najimi shot a quick glance at Mai, her gaze filled with gratitude toward the pleading maid.
"Please, calm yourself," I said, raising a hand to stop her, "I won’t do such a thing to her."
Najimi’s brows furrowed. "You won’t?!"
We eventually discussed how things would be from that point onward.
The first new law was simple: No more turning people into godmen.
After that, I reintroduced them to Ferry, and in doing so, stumbled upon a small conspiracy.
"Yes, he’s a lovely pet—"
"I’m a Divine Wolf famili—"
"—and judging by the way things look, it seems he kept our secret from you... Ah."
"Najimi, you idiot!" Ferry flinched.
I squinted, "Najimi, spill it."
