Chapter 36: Chapter 36: This Is the Downside of Becoming a Lord Too Young
"Good girl."
Romon reached out his right hand and gently stroked Nini’s head. Her hair was so fine and silky, it felt just like petting a long-haired cat.
Receiving this praise was like receiving true approval—Nini put even more effort into her actions.
Romon admired the stunning, eye-catching curves of Nini’s body as she knelt before him. It was clear why Spidevs had chosen her as her successor. With his left hand, he caressed Nini’s throat; every time she moved forward, her throat would tense and rise. Even so, she didn’t stop for a second. Each time, it seemed as though she wished she could take all of Romon inside her.
As Nini’s head moved up and down, her soft tongue sliding and swirling below, fifteen minutes passed.
Feeling the warmth and suction below, Romon gently pressed down on Nini, and finally reached his peak.
She struggled only for a moment before immediately becoming obedient, wrapping her arms around Romon’s waist, while her tongue below continued to move ever so slightly.
After a long moment.
The two separated. Nini opened her mouth to show Romon the results of her efforts, then swallowed it in one gulp.
"Did Spidevs teach you this?" Romon asked.
Nini licked her lips and gave a gentle shake of her head. "Normally, we trained using water balloons. If we burst the balloon with our teeth, we’d get beaten."
Looking at Nini’s body as she knelt on the floor, Romon decided to go all the way, taking advantage of the heat of the moment. He shifted to the side and said to Nini, "Come here."
Nini froze for a second, then understood immediately. With surprise and a hint of nervousness, she glanced at Romon, who was still unsatisfied. Like a cat stretching lazily, she pressed her upper body against the table, rose up on her tiptoes, and arched her round thighs high.
"Master, please be gentle—this is my first time."
Romon pretended not to hear. He gripped her slender waist with both hands and began to thrust forward.
The kerosene lamp burned down to its last, and the final glimmer of light illuminated small stains of blood and water on the floor.
Ever since she became a slave, Nini had lived every day with regret and anxiety. Now, she poured herself into this moment, venting everything she had.
...
Romon’s special training with Nini deepened their bond, making it so she would be even more decisive and swift when the time came for her to strike.
At dawn, the bloodthirsty wolf pack launched their attack on Stone Town.
Immediately after, a barrage of arrows rained down from the sky. These arrows weren’t meant to injure—instead, each one was tied to a scroll, which bore only a single line: "Lord Thune accepts the Nightingale Lord’s declaration of war. Surrender and you will not be killed."
By now, everyone knew it was the Nightingale Lord who had declared war first. Lord Thune was not the invader—he was simply the weaker lord, standing up to the bullying of a stronger neighbor.
Certainly, after so many years of the Nightingale Lord ruling Stone Town, he had managed to cultivate some loyal supporters.
At this moment—
Inside the Stone Town town hall, the mayor stood to the side like a servant, while a nobleman dressed in green sat in the seat that rightfully belonged to the mayor.
This was none other than Thomas Nightingale himself—the lord who ruled over the entire Nightingale Territory.
"My lord," the mayor said, "there’s suddenly a huge number of bloodthirsty wolves outside. The Adventurers’ Guild refuses to cooperate, and with just Stone Town’s forces, we can’t possibly wipe them out. And... the centaur knights from Thune are also challenging us at the north gate. Who should we send...?"
Ever since Stone Town was incorporated into the Nightingale Territory, it had become an unloved stepchild. The town government hardly had any soldiers at its disposal—actually, the military strength was even weaker than back when it belonged to the Thune domain.
That was because the Nightingale Lord was afraid—afraid that Stone Town might rebel, and use those troops to support Thune instead.
As for security, he never really cared. To the east was the weakened, practically ruined Thune territory—at least, that’s how it was a month ago. To the north lay the wildlands, where nobody from the Matthews domain actually lived. To the south stretched the poisonous marshes—an absolute no-man’s land. Only to the west did the Nightingale Territory border Stone Town.
Now, with Thune’s forces attacking, the town hall couldn’t even muster a single decent fighter.
Their own knight order’s best was just a regular knight. Meanwhile, outside, the likes of the [Deadshot Centaur] and [Rapid-Fire Mage Talia] were household names in Stone Town. And let’s not forget—the bloodthirsty wolf king had brought nearly 600 wolves with him!
With a force that size, Stone Town’s official troops didn’t dare meet them head-on. Their only hope was to rely on the Adventurers’ Guild.
But today, the Adventurers’ Guild wasn’t taking on any outside commissions at all.
Everyone knew: if you won, you got nothing; if you lost, you were dead.
Besides, all the adventurers’ attention was fixed on the Thune Great Dungeon. They’d only just started exploring the second floor, and now that damned Nightingale Lord had declared war—cutting off everyone’s profits and sense of adventure.
Anyone who still chose to serve the Nightingale Lord at this point had to be a world-class idiot.
"Don’t send anyone. Just keep the gates shut," Nightingale Lord replied coolly to the anxious mayor. He stared at the office door, as if waiting for something.
"But, my lord," the mayor protested, "if we stay locked in, the townspeople will grow restless. Most people’s livelihoods depend on trade and movement..."
"You think I don’t know how things are in my own territory? You need to remind me?" Nightingale Lord shot him a glare. "Whatever complaints they have, they can swallow them! That’s a direct order from their lord!"
"Yes, my lord..." The mayor wiped the sweat from his brow. If the lord was displeased, one word could see him hauled off to the chopping block.
At that moment—
The office door swung open, and a woman in a purple-and-black coat, clearly a courtesan, strolled in.
Her makeup was heavy, her gaze mature and seductive, her eyes locking onto Nightingale Lord’s with a look that made his heart race.
"Am I late, my darling little Nightingale?"
Little Nightingale?
The moment he heard this nickname, the mayor of Stone Town went weak in the knees, nearly collapsing to the floor.
"Spidevs! How dare you be so disrespectful! This is Lord Nightingale himself you’re speaking to!" he barked out in warning, his voice cracking.
At this,
Spidevs gave a cold chuckle, her heavy makeup masking the fine lines on her face. "Yeah, I got it. Why don’t you step outside? Little Nightingale and I have things to discuss. Privately."
"You—!"
Just as the mayor was about to defend Nightingale Lord’s honor, he was cut off by a furious shout from behind: "Enough! Get out!"
Nightingale Lord had always maintained the image of a noble gentleman, so even though his rebuke wasn’t loud, it struck the mayor’s ears like a clap of thunder.
His mind went blank. He hurried out of the room and, as he left, made sure to lock the door behind him.
As soon as the door closed,
That proud, lofty look in Nightingale Lord’s eyes instantly twisted into something vulgar and debased.
He practically slid out of his chair, dropping to his knees and crawling on all fours over to Spidevs.
Spidevs, seeing this, promptly pressed her foot down onto his shoulder.
"Mommy, Mommy, it’s been so long since we’ve seen each other!"
"Heh, good boy. But listen, Lord Matthews still hasn’t paid back the money he owes me, and now the two of you are ganging up to call on me together. Let me make one thing clear: I only serve one client at a time. I don’t do group deals," Spidevs said as she pressed her foot harder onto Nightingale Lord.
His peculiar tastes were instantly satisfied, and Nightingale Lord’s expression became one of utter bliss, to the point where he could barely breathe.
"Matthews has already promised—once this job is done, he’ll pay double. And as for me, I’ll pay you in full, right after the mission succeeds, Mommy!" Nightingale Lord replied, his entire body trembling.
"So, what do you want me to do?"
"We need you to assassinate someone."
"Who?"
"Lord Thune—Romon Thune."
At those words, Spidevs’s expression darkened. She knew exactly what sort of crime it was to assassinate a lord. Even the best assassins in the business would think twice before taking on that kind of job.
But almost immediately, Nightingale Lord offered a price she couldn’t refuse. "You’ll get 300 gold coins, Mommy. Three hundred, paid upfront and in full."
Hearing that number, Spidevs’s heart skipped a beat. That was five years’ worth of her wages! At her age, how many more five-year stretches did she have left?
Damn that Nini—she’d been skipping lessons for a month. Who knew if she was even still alive? If she had to start training a new successor now, could she ever find someone as promising as Nini?
And if the new protégé didn’t have the right connections, wouldn’t that just be a total waste of her life?
A few more years, and there’d be no chance to turn her life around!
"Three hundred gold coins..."
"Yes, three hundred gold coins! Mommy!"
"I want to see the goods first."
"Of course!" ƒrēenovelkiss.com
Nightingale Lord scrambled over behind the desk, pulled out a heavy box from the cabinet, and opened it. A pile of gleaming gold coins shone with irresistible allure.
She suppressed the urge to just rob him then and there—after all, in this line of work, killing the goose that lays the golden eggs was the worst mistake you could make.
If she ever harmed Nightingale Lord, her entire network would collapse, and there wouldn’t be a single place left in the world for her to stand.
"Mommy, look—as long as you complete the job, all these coins are yours!" Nightingale Lord coaxed.
Spidevs calmly steadied her breathing; she was genuinely tempted. Since Nightingale Lord had already prepared the full payment, there was no risk of being stiffed afterwards.
He kept calling her "Mommy," but that was just his kink. When it came to money, he was all business—it was always by the book. His quirks were one thing, transactions were another. Business was business.
"Lord Thune. I’ve seen him before. Just a young punk. If I recall, he bought that girl who plays with rapid-fire magic," Spidevs said, her words laced with meaning.
Nightingale Lord rushed to clarify: "That rapid-fire mage is still outside the north gate, along with the centaur knights. Thune’s domain is completely defenseless right now. If you set out at once, it’ll only take a single strike to end that kid’s life. For you, it’ll be a piece of cake. And by the time you return, all this gold will be waiting for you."
"Heh. Fine. I’ll take the job."
She already knew the state of Thune’s territory—word had spread all through the Adventurers’ Guild these past few days. They only had a handful of troops, and now every last one of them was attacking Stone Town.
So green—this is exactly the problem with making someone so young a lord.
"Mommy, wonderful! Mommy, when you assassinate this lord, you must do it clean—don’t let anyone find out," Nightingale Lord instructed, feigning concern.
