Lady Meilin is seduced by her green tea brother-in-law everyday-Chapter 424: The actual truth.
There were no tears for Long Bo, not in the royal palace anyway. From servants to royals, everyone was dressed in black and faking the best frowns they could. But there were those who could not fake the frowns and they were laughing as they stood around the long glass table that was stocked full of snacks and foods.
Princess Rize was one of them and her laughter rung clear through the hall. She was decked out in her favorite jewels. And to those that were part of the inner circle, it was clear that she was celebrating.
There were others that were keeping their voices low, talking in hushed whispers. Some had taken their conversations to private rooms, like the Empress Mother and Chi Lian.
They had not known that Mei Mei was already inside the study when they settled down and started having their conversation.
"You acted faster than I expected." Chi Lian started as she sat down.
The Empress Mother sniffed the air. "You still smell like the ocean, sun and sushi."
"It’s lobster, I just ate some." Chi Lian answered. "Now tell me why you acted quickly."
"I thought you said that you did not want to be involved in how we handled Long Bo’s matters." The Empress Mother leaned back in the sofa. "Why the questions?"
"Because I have been told that Mo Liang killed himself an hour after the news of Long Bo’s death was shared with him. Your people interfered with my people and prevented them from questioning him. They even transferred him to a new cell during the questioning." Chi Lian looked at the Empress Mother curiously. "I did not get my answers about what connected them. We both know that leech was not the suicide type. He confessed something and you decided to kill them both off quickly. So, what is it?"
Mei Mei had managed to hide behind a curtain as soon as they entered the door. It was because she had been preparing to play a prank on Junjie and Jingzhe. This was Jingzhe’s office in the royal palace and she did not expect her mother and the Empress Mother to use it.
She gripped the curtain and blinked, curious like her mother to hear what the secret was.
The Empress Mother stood up and walked to the window. She was so close to Mei Mei and if she opened the curtain, she would catch her.
A sigh came from the Empress Mother’s mouth. "I am deeply ashamed to face you, honestly." She turned around and walked back to the sofa, sitting down slowly. "If I had known this earlier, I would have terminated them a long time ago."
Chi Lian frowned. "They did something to harm my family, didn’t they? For you to be sorry for me, that is the only thing it means."
The Empress mother sighed again. "That bastard Long Bo, a car accident was such a good death for him. I should have made it so much worse than it was."
Chi Lian clenched her fists. "Just come out with it. Even if you hide it, I am going to find out anyway."
The Empress Mother nodded. "Long Bo was the brains behind the fire that almost killed Mei Mei."
Chi Lian drew her head back.
The curtain was pulled back with force and Mei Mei revealed herself. "What?" She screamed. "What do you mean by that? How did that happen? And when did Mo Liang die?"
The Empress Mother was patting her chest gently, trying to keep calm. "How did you come out from there?"
"I could smell her as soon as we entered." Chi Lian said, "The whole room stinks like a garden of flowers. She is the only one with such a perfume."
Mei Mei sat down beside her mother and both of them looked at the Empress Mother curiously.
She pushed a string of her hair back and said slowly, "Do you remember when Long Bo schemed to have Mei Mei marry his sickly son?"
They both nodded.
"I ruined the plan and turned the tables on them." Mei Mei recalled.
"Long Bo sent his son out of the empire and the boy never returned." The Empress Mother shared. "I only just learned recently that within three months of his move, he was involved in some kind of fight in Prague and it left him crippled. He had to get prosthetics. Long Bo never told anyone about this but he kept a grudge."
Chi Lian snorted. "They schemed against my daughter and she was clever enough to save herself. He sent his son away because of shame and yet he blamed Mei Mei for everything that happened! What a lunatic. He was the one to blame for all the bad decisions he made."
The Empress Mother agreed. Long Bo had nobody but himself to blame for all that happened. As for his son becoming crippled, nobody could have predicted such a thing happening. "As soon as I found out about Long Bo being tied to Mo Liang, I thought about the one person in the world that the two of them hated." Her eyes fell on Mei Mei.
Mei Mei huffed.
The Empress Mother continued, "According to Mo Liang’s confession, he walked into the wrong room when he came to the city to watch the Olympiad. The men in there were plotting how to kill Mei Mei. It was Prince Long Bo’s men.
They were worried about all of the security that followed Mei Mei. Mo Liang was brave enough to offer to help for a fee. He told them about something he had learned on the internet about to set fires.
He also assured them how his being a teenager would not arouse the suspicions of anyone even if he was seen going in and out of the chemistry lab. They would just assume he was another competitor."
Chi Lian shook her head. "No wonder we could not find answers after. The clean up was done by professionals."
The Empress Mother sighed. "We looked for an enemy outside when really we should have been looking within."
