Chapter 107: Panic

In a lab, filled with different vials and tubes. Monster remains lying everywhere.

There in the lab was a cage, inside the cage laid a frail boy with beautiful black curly hair. He had big bulgy eyes and he looked hungry.

The doors of the lab opened and a man wearing white walked in, he had a plate of porridge in his hands.

He walked over to the cage and bent over.

"Kane, you awake?" The man asked when he was looking at the boy in the cage. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The frail boy opened his eyes, he didn’t have enough strength to even look up.

"Sirus," The boy said as a smile formed on his face.

"Yes it’s me, c’mon child come eat something." Sirus sat down outside the cage as he waited for the Kane to pull closer so he could eat.

The frail boy began to eat the porridge, he was eating rather fast and messy.

"C’mon take it easy you might hurt yourself, here’s some water." Sirus brought out a bottle of water, he didn’t want Kane to get hurt while he was eating.

"Don’t worry Kane, soon you will be out of this horrible place and I will make sure that I will take you home and feed you lots of nice things." Sirus smiled as he looked at the boy.

Kane paused and looked at Sirus.

"You will do that for me?" Kane asked as he stopped eating for a while.

Sirus smiled and patted the boys head.

"Yes child, I will make sure that I will take you out of this lab."

Sirus was looking at Kane, the boys face was filled with joy and he didn’t even care about the food anymore he was happy that there was going to be chance he would leave the cage.

"Now eat your food, I will be here with you." Sirus was not going to leave until Kane was done with his food.

Kane was happy about the food, he didn’t want to even think about anything other than the fact that soon he will able to eat more.

Suddenly the doors of the lab opened and a man in his late forties walked in.

He looked at the two, he frowned when he saw what was happening.

"How many times have I told you not to feed the boy Sirus?!" the man blurted out with pure rage.

"Sir, I can’t stand and watch you do all sorts of things to this boy without feeding him. It’s not nice in any way sir." Sirus protested.

The man walked up to Kane’s cage and took the porridge away from him.

"Why should I care if he hasn’t eaten anything? I placed him here to experiment on him, besides he is nothing but a scrawny orphan we found on the streets of Middle Lands. If we left him there then he would have ended up in the Riftlands." The man didn’t say anything, he walked over to a chest and unlocked it.

"You better not be thinking of doing anything with him, i have an experiment planned. The last one and if he survives this one then it’s over here with him." The man said as he slowly opened the chest.

Sirus was confused, he didn’t expect the man to talk about another experiment.

"What do you mean by another experiment? What do you plan to do to him?" Sirus asked when he saw how he was opening the chest.

Sirus walked closer and then he felt something ominous from the chest.

It was monster essence, but this monster essence was not like any other essence; it was raw and wild. Although it was only a piece in a chest it was enough to pull 100 raiders to the lab.

"What is that thing?!" Sirus asked the man, he looked at him and he could see that there was a strange look in his eyes.

"This here Sirus my boy, is the pinnacle of all our searches. Pure Monster Essence," The man closed the chest.

"Some of the raiders found it on their expedition to Sylvamenthra close to the rift. They told me that monsters were protecting it like it was something important to them."

Sirus was looking at the man as he walked close to Kane’s cage.

The man slammed his hand on the cage, he had an odd smile on his face.

"Tonight my scrawny guinea pig is when you reach the pinnacle of you being here." The man was about to leave the room.

Sirus was looking at him, he knew what he had in mind and why he had said Kane would reach the pinnacle of his stay here.

Sirus couldn’t bring himself to stand there and watch him plot something that diabolic.

"Sir Vance, wait!" Sirus called out for the man, he didn’t want anything to happen to Kane.

"What is it Sirus? Cmon speak up I don’t have all day here I have to give King Orm some reports." Vance didn’t want to have anything like a conversation with Sirus.

Sirus was looking at him and he knew that there was something odd about the chest and the way Vance said there was an experiment soon.

"What do you plan to with that thing and what does it have to do with Kane?" Sirus asked he was looking at Vance.

"Kane? Oh you mean the boy, I am only trying to make sure that I will see if there is a way for me to tap into the very thing that makes monsters that powerful and you know make our very own monster, I want to see if there is a way for us to tap into the main. I want to know how it would be possible for us to see what we can do when we try to create our very own being with essence,"

Vance had a smile on his face, he was not joking when he said all those words, he was not going have mercy on Kane and Sirus knew that it would be dangerous doing somehting like that to a child.

Sirus didnt want to know what it was going on in Vance’s mind but he knew that it was not going to be something a child should be allowed to go through.

"Sir, why dont you choose someone else from the Riftlands? We both know that once you tell the King you are in need of a test subject he will make it happen and there is no way he would even think of wasting time when it comes to you."

Sirus was trying his best to make sure that there was no way for Vance to lay a hand on Kane.

Vance didnt want to know what it was that was pushing Sirus to say things like that to him but then he knew that it was something like a feeling of love.

"You have grown rather attached to that test subject, I dont know why you are trying to stand against my entire plan here." Vance sneered, he was not happy with wha he was seeing.

"Sir, forgive me but please I dont want you to do anything to little Kane, I can make sure that another subject would be found and you will be able to carry out the test with no issue." Sirus was still protesting, he was sure that if he stood on his wirds that Vance would look into it and try to change his mind.

Vance on the other hand had a deadpan look on his face, it was clear he was not listening to whatever it was Sirus was trying to say.

He was looking at Sirus when an odd smile appeared on his face, it was a calming smile and it was also a sign that he was about to tell him somethng that would help out. "Sirus, I have heard your plea and I have come to a conclusion that will help you out the way you are trying to imagine it."

Vance turned to face Sirus properly, he was not going to be saying anything behind his back like that.

"I dont want you close to the Lab when it is time for the experiment," Vance said as he turned to take his leave.

Sirus was confused when he heard what he said to him, "What in the word do you mean by that sir? I thought you were going to let Kane go?"

"Now why in the world would I do that?!" Vance turned almost immediately, he was looking at Sirus with an even crazier look.

"It took me time but I found a subject that would be used in any way I choose to use him and you think that there is going to be a scenario where I would think of letting him go? You must be delusional," Vance turned to walk away.

"He is only a boy!" Sirus yelled.

"He will serve a good purpose," Vance was not looking back this time around he had made up his mind and there was nothing going to stop him from doing it.

Sirus stood there feeling utterly defeated, he knew that if he didnt do anything then the experiment would end up killing Kane.

He turned back walking into the lab he had made up his mind, he was not going to stand and watch Vance do somethng that cruel.

He walked over to Kane’s cage, he bent over to say something, "Kane, I will be coming back. I will make sure that he will not get the chance to do anything to you."

Kane was looking at Sirus and he couldnt find the strength to say anything.

"Do you promise that you will come back?" The boy asked looking at Sirus.

Sirus was looking at Kane and he was not going to say anything that would come to his mind, he was not going to lie to the boy.

"I promise Kane, I am coming to take you out of here."
