Legacy Of The Extra-Chapter 42: The Day After
Chapter 42 - The Day After
The morning light pierced through the foggy window, casting a soft glow over the room. I slowly opened my eyes, letting out a deep breath as I sat up.
Running a hand through my hair, I swept my gaze across the room. The unwashed plates of our dinner food were kept on the table. The small almera was slightly open.
Small, uneven breathing noises could be heard inside the room, it was Aeris. She was still sleeping; her face was relaxed, with her pink hair unkempt. A few strands falling over her face.
Her chest rising gently with each breath, her entire frame was covered by a white sheet with her trembling beneath it. It was a given due to the cold outside.
I slowly planted my feet onto the floor and made my way towards her. I crouched beside her, slowly placing my hands beneath her, taking her into a princess carry.
I made my way towards the bed and gently placed her on the warm mattress, putting a sheet over her.
"It should be enough"
[Oh my, prince charming is actually charming?~ Who could've thought.] Dante started again with his daily banter.
I am just making sure she does not fall sick right before our departure to Rasendorf...
Croft greeted.
Good morning.
Yes, but not much. I can't train in the room without waking her up. So, I will just go into the small yard and do some swings to keep my body warm.
I opened the door of the room, locking it behind me while sliding the extra key inside. Tapping on the storage ring, I pulled out the sword with its scabbard and strapped it to my waist.
I made my way to the small yard through the hallway and the stairs. The halls were quiet, everyone was asleep besides me.
"Sometimes, solitude is great..." I mumbled, opening the door to the backyard of the inn. Stepping outside, the cold air hit me, running a slow shiver through my whole body.
The ground was covered with white snow, making it a bit hard to practice movement-based techniques. A few days more and then I can return to Rasendorf...
After acquiring my Mazekin license, I will head back to Rasendorf—To Aunt Josephine and brother Micheal. There, I will drop Aeris in their care, making excuses of saving her by chance. Which I actually did but not by chance.
After dropping her Rasendorf, I will again have to make my way here back in Clinkton to the dungeon where Astral Root has the highest chance of spawning.
[Why aren't you bringing the girl along?] Dante asked.
The way Aeris is now, she will only be a liability for me. She will be a hindrance because she can't use Mana yet.
I swung my sword in perfect stance. Consciously focusing on my footwork, I attempted a few thrusts in the air, which made a whistling noise.
I did the same combos and hits for an hour, my whole body was drenched with sweat. My tunic stuck to the hard frame of my body. My shoes burying deeper into the snow.
"It should be enough for today," I muttered, swiping the sweat off of my forehead with my arm. I tapped on my ring, putting the sword inside and headed back into the inn.

Closing the door behind me, I headed for the counter. The inn Lady should be awake by now, and I could really use a bath.
"Good morning," The inn lady greeted me with a smile. "Always waking up early, huh?"
"Yes," I replied, taking a seat. "I would like to take a bath, preferably warm."
"Straight to the point, as always." She replied, releasing a small chuckle and turned around, heading towards the room reserved for baths.
"Oh." She halted her steps and turned around. "Remember that noblewoman I told you about yesterday?"
Riana?
"Yeah, what about her?" I asked.
"After you took your dinner with you, she arrived at the seats to have her meal." Her lips curving upwards in that same cursed teasing smile. "She asked for a blue-haired gentleman named Dimitri Novikov... who recently applied for a Mazekin License."
What does she want now?
"I did not think that this kind gentleman was such a lady killer," Her smile widening. "Although, your actions yesterday said otherwise..."
"What actions might you be referring to?" I simply smiled at her, hiding my desire to run away.
"What else? Bringing a beautiful girl along and spending the night with her. I just hope the bed is not broken~"
"It's not, and please ready the bath," I said curtly, trying to remain calm.
"Yes, yes. I am just joking with you." She said, turning around and heading for the baths. "But please don't forget to meet with the lady, alright?"
"Sure,"
What would a noble want from me now? I just hope its not about recruiting me as the knight of her family bullshit.
Mostly, when nobles would see promising talents in commoners, they would jump at the slightest chance of recruiting them for their families. It is a pretty common tradition that generates employment in the Empire but I am not here to be recruited.
I have a purpose that is half complete; just a few more days, and I can kiss goodbye to this town. As for the maze, it is close to the town but not too close. I have to get there on foot for almost 10 Kms.
My spring of thoughts cooled down as the Inn Lady called out to me. The bath was ready.
I stepped inside the room, and the wooden tub released translucent white clouds in the air. I locked the door behind me, took off my clothes and sat inside the tub. The warm water enveloped my body, releasing the ache and stiffness.
After washing my body thoroughly, I stood up from the tub and made my towards the mirror near which a towel was hanging on a wooden plaque attached to the wall.
I rubbed my body properly and looked in the mirror. My blue hair was damp, long and unkempt.
"I have to cut my hair before I enter the academy..."
As I looked at my physique, I smile played at my lips. It was good, my chest had muscles. My abdomen was shredded with six-packs. My biceps and triceps were developed.
It was all the fruits of my labour.
The hard work that I had to the last three months.
Suddenly, my eyes fell onto my left shoulder. It was a bite mark that was given to Noah in the past, when he was a kid, by a firehound.
He—Or rather I was still a hopeless little kid back then, asking for acknowledgement which led me to saving Cynthia from a firehound attack.
Such a Idiot He—I was.
But not anymore...
I am not that kid anymore—desperate for love and acknowledgement. I have people who genuinely care for me. Josephine, Micheal, Dante and Croft. They are with me, and that is all that matters.
I tapped on my ring, taking out a fresh set of clothes—A simple black tunic and black trousers and put them on.
I tied my hair into a low ponytail and headed for the door. Opening the lock and turning the knob I stepped outside into the hallway.
"Dimitri?"
A sudden voice called out my fake name. My eyes darted towards the person—Blue hair like mine, emerald eyes, and she was wearing a white mage robe that fitted her frame perfectly.
Riana Von Augustin... Micheal's sister-in-law.
"Lady Riana, what brings you here?" I offered her a polite smile.
"You," She states, her voice unwavering. "Yesterday, you just disappeared without saying a word to any of us."
I don't think I needed to say something. We just met yesterday.
"I am sorry. I had some personal business to attend to," I said, scratching the back of my head.
"Anyways, I won't pry into your business." She sighed. "But the Guildmaster of the Ravenspire Guild's Clinkton branch is asking for you."
"What now?"
