"Before you get inside, I want to ask you a question," the ego said, just as Elias was about to get inside the jet.

"What question?" Elias frowned, wondering if there was something wrong with the merger that the ego wanted to ask him about.

"Why are you naked?" the ego asked, making Elias’s face go blank.

He had almost forgotten that he wasn’t wearing any clothes since they were torn off during the extraction process. He was so immersed in the creation of the evolved jet that he didn’t have time to consider anything else.

"Because I like it this way," Elias sarcastically answered as he started rummaging through his Spatial Storage to find clothes.

"Interesting. That’s a very perverted hobby, but I won’t judge you." The Ego went silent after offering a few comments.

If the ego was a human, Elias might have slapped the back of his head for this comment, but hitting the jet was only going to hurt himself. So he ignored those comments and brought out the clothes.

Even if the clothes from earth weren’t as sturdy or classy as the clothes of the upper realm, they still got the job done of getting his body covered.

He wasn’t picky with the clothes, and simply wore the clothes that were in his size, which he could find the fastest. He quickly wore a pair of black jeans that created a stark contrast with the white t-shirt.

"Better?" he asked the ego, while donning a white overcoat on top.

"Much," the ego replied. "Though I must say, the contrast is a bit sharp. Like a penguin wearing a tuxedo backwards."

Elias rolled his eyes. "You’re a terrible critic, you know that?"

He climbed into the cockpit, and looked at the various screens and switches that were present. Just looking at them was enough to give him a headache, even though he wasn’t meant to pilot it.

"It’ll be a short test flight, and we will return right here. Still, you’re not allowed to fly before the Beast of Decay. Alright?" he asked the ego, warning it repeatedly as if he didn’t have complete confidence in it.

"I’m the most reliable ego in this world. You don’t have to say twice," the ego sounded grumpy, as the sound of engine roaring resounded. The lightning that was flickering around the jet, became even stronger as it started moving.

The jet moved in the opposition direction of the Beast of Decay, going behind instead to avoid getting detected. Even if the Beast of Decay was slow now, it still had eyes.

"While you’re inside, do you want me to teach you how the controls work?" the Ego asked Elias, who was simply looking out the glass, feeling the jet catching speed.

Elias didn’t need to learn the ability to fly these things, but he still wanted to agree. He wanted to know as much as possible. Unfortunately, he couldn’t satisfy his curiosity as this was only supposed to be a test flight.

He had to return and focus on his evolution. The time that he had for this short test flight was far from enough to learn anything, even if he was being taught by someone.

"Maybe next time," he said as the jet started rising in the air. It soon soared through the sky, leaving the trail of lightning behind.

The fighter jet rushed through the sky at supersonic speed. It was the first time Elias had flown, if he was to ignore the fall he had suffered from the Pillar of Heaven, which did make him feel like he was flying for a brief moment.

Watching the landscape outside getting smaller as the jet soared higher was a surreal feeling. For quite some time, he remained in a daze, observing the vast world. From this height, even the giant Beast of Decay looked like a small dot on the horizon.

"How are you feeling?" he asked the ego, as he couldn’t find any problems with the jet’s evolution.

There were no problems with the increased weight of the jet, and the speed seemed to have increased even more than he anticipated.

"Everything seems to be fine. The only thing is that I feel hungry for some reason," the Ego said. "It’s a really strange feeling. I wonder if there was something about it among the things that I skipped when learning about this thing."

The moment Elias heard these words, his expression darkened. That was right; he had forgotten another important thing. Even though he had evolved the jet, it still ran on fuel. That problem was still existent, and he hadn’t checked how much fuel it had.

"Let’s go back," he told the ego with extreme urgency. He looked through the various dials to find one that could represent the fuel in reserve.

"Can we go back a little later? It’s fun to fly through the sky," the ego answered, appearing somewhat rebellious.

"We don’t have time for this. You’re feeling hungry because this jet doesn’t have enough fuel. Evolution hasn’t solved that problem. We need to get back before we..."

Elias was in the middle of speaking when his eyes fell on the fuel gauge. The gauge was on the red mark, and a red light had also started beeping repeatedly.

"Something is wrong! I-I can’t..." the ego also exclaimed, as the jet started losing balance, along with altitude. "F*ck, are we going to die then?"

Elias almost felt like facepalming himself. It was foolish of him to ignore the risks just because he had an intelligence to control the fighter jet. At this rate, both of them were going to die!

Even if he had strong bones, he wasn’t going to survive a fall from this height inside this box of metal that was further reinforced.

He could try to eject, but his jet was still going to crash, along with the ego, which was just as big a loss as anything.

"You’re silent! Is it that bad? Are we really going to die?’ the ego asked Elias, as their descent became faster and more uncontrollable.
