Legendary Awakening: Harem System In The Post-Apocalyptic World-Chapter 109: Hardy Life
"No need." Max shook his head while taking a step towards them. "I’ll just ask the ones that remain alive in a while."
The grey-haired man’s expression darkened.
"It seems you are really in a hurry to—" He began saying when Max suddenly kicked the ground and shot towards them, the kitchen knife clutched tightly in his right hand.
"Quit wasting my time."
Swoosh!
Puchi!
The man’s eyes narrowed and he hurriedly raised his axe to block him, but he was already a step too late because Max had appeared before him and his knife had pierced his chest through his ribs, skewering his heart.
As the man stared at him in disbelief, Max released his grip on the knife and snatched his metal axe which he swung at the short-haired man.
However, the short-haired man managed to react in time and ducked.
Max saw him duck but he didn’t stop the swing. There were many targets, and everyone was standing in groups. This meant... his strike was sure to reap someone’s life and severely injure them.
Katcha!
As expected, the next instant, the axe struck the neck of a guy who had been standing behind the short-haired man, almost decapitating him.
"Kill the bastard!" The short-haired man shouted, enraged and frantic after barely escaping with his life.
Everyone immediately rained down attacks on Max, but Max sifted through them, dodging several and using others as meat shields.
Arrghhh!
Bang!
Katch!
Thud! Thud!
...
While they fought at the entrance of the block, the three Scavengers who had escaped earlier and entered their houses, watched the ongoing slaughter with the family members.
When they saw reinforcements come, they wanted to rush over and join them, but Max had put fear in their hearts after killing all of their companions, so they suppressed the urge and decided to wait, not caring that others might look down on them for it. After all, their lives were more important than their reputation.
When the battle began and Max began killing one man after another, just like before, they felt relieved that they didn’t join.
When Max had killed seven or eight of them, almost simultaneously, they told their families to pack their stuff and went to find wire cutters. There was no need to explain what they were planning.
...
Swoosh!
Hiss!
Max dodged an iron rod strike to his head, but right then, he felt pain from his back—someone had slashed his back, causing him to hiss in pain.
Shua!
Katcha!
He ducked, dodging another three strikes from the front before swiftly turning around, twisting his body and swinging his axe in upward trajectory, tearing through the man’s—who had slashed him—abdomen, chest, then jaw and head, almost splitting him in two.
The sight caused everyone’s heart to quiver, but instead of retreating like the second Scavenger group had, they became fiercer and some even stopped trying to dodge, only focused on attacking him.
’As expected.’ Max’s pupils flashed seeing this. ’The radiation in the ground water has affected their minds.’
Right then, he noticed several other men rushing over from the distance.
’I was too slow.’ He thought, sweeping his gaze across the people surrounding him. Around five minutes had passed since they began fighting and he had only managed to kill ten of them.
Now, adding the seventeen newcomers, he had to face twenty eight Scavengers, whose average strength was going to be higher than earlier groups.
’Hm, those three will also join... probably.’ He thought, remembering the three he had ignored to kill the escapees.
Just a second after Max noticed them, the short-haired man’s—who was still alive despite Max trying to kill him on several occasions—eyes lit up as he also noticed them.
Then, he shouted at his compassion, to rally their morals:
"Don’t let up. Our reinforcements have arrived."
A few of his companions’ eyes lit up and the thought of retreating that had begun appearing in their minds were instantly wiped out.
As for the others, their eyes were bloodshot, with barely any rationality remaining within them. So, his shout didn’t affect them, there was no need to either because they were already completely focused on killing Max.
In fact, from a short while ago, they had even begun showing the signs of attacking their companions too.
Max had instantly noticed this, and already aware that remaining Scavengers were going to arrive soon as the young man who had rushed out earlier hadn’t returned with this group; he avoided killing them even when he got the chance.
His plan was simple—he was going to exploit them to kill others.
While moving around, evading life threatening strikes and landing his own, he gleaned at the short-haired man and couldn’t help sigh in admiration. ’What a hardy life he has!’
As mentioned earlier, he had targeted him several times, but every time, he managed to dodge his attacks and a few times when he wasn’t able to, someone else would practically throw themselves in front of him, saving his life.
Therefore, even though he had a few injuries, some were a bit serious too, he was mostly alright, his combat power intact. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
The short-haired man noticed Max’s gaze and shivered before hurriedly moving behind one of his companions.
Amusement flashed in Max’s eyes seeing this. Then, his gaze focused.
Gripping the axes tightly—he had taken another axe after killing someone earlier—he went all out and by the time the reinforcement reached them, he had killed four others.
"Help us kill this bastard!! The short-haired man shouted when he saw them stop instead of joining the battle.
However, none of them took action, their expression grim.
Then, one of them asked, "Who are you?"
Bang!
Max naturally didn’t bother answering and cut through another Scavenger’s head, killing him, reducing their number to six.
Swoosh!
The short-haired man retreated toward the reinforcements, not wanting to continue facing Max before they joined.
However...
Shua!
Max followed him, and the remaining five, who had lost their rationality, followed after him.
Seeing Max utterly disregarding their presence, some of the reinforcements couldn’t hold back and rushed towards him, which made the more cautious ones frown. But when they saw Max continue killing, they also had no choice but to join.
’Last sprint!’ Max thought, his gaze focused and then he burst out with all his strength.
Slash!
Katcha!
Bang!
