Legendary Awakening: Strongest Class In the Apocalypse-Chapter 37: Delusional (II)
"Interesting," Lirin muttered under her breath, studying the changes in Xavier’s mental state. "This human is indeed interesting."
If earlier she was curious about Xavier because of his potential as Legendary class holder, but now there was something else that forced her focus to shift on him.
Compared to Princess Evelyn, who could be rash or playful at times, Lirin was completely different. From the very beginning, she had been carefully observing Xavier—how his emotions had swung from icy hostility to extreme calmness in just minutes.
Moreover, she had subtly sensed how Xavier had almost completely resisted Evelyn’s charm and tricks.
On the other side, Evelyn clapped her hands lightly and chuckled.
"Oh, so you’re finally ready to listen to me."
"Your sister, huh... Although I might not be able to help you directly, I know someone who can."
After saying this, Princess Evelyn’s gaze shifted to Millie, who stood to Xavier’s right.
"And you too, girl. I have ways of finding the killers of your parents." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"Huh?!" Millie’s pupils shrank, her ears standing upright in shock.
"What did you just say...?"
...
Xavier walked forward step by step through the ruined landscape.
The shattered moon hung high in the sky, bathing the apocalyptic land in a cold, silvery glow.
From time to time, his gaze drifted to Millie walking beside him, a look of enlightenment flickering in his eyes.
Earlier, he hadn’t understood why Millie chose to follow him or even defend him. But now, things were starting to make sense.
Then his gaze moved to the other side, where Jackie’s face was as pale as paper. She looked completely exhausted, not even noticing that Xavier was watching her.
To him, she was a complete mystery. Her actions simply didn’t make sense.
With a soft sigh, he refocused on the matter at hand.
"How long do we have to keep walking, Princess Evelyn?"
"Hehe, compared to how you were acting earlier, you seem really eager to reach my village now," Evelyn teased.
"Of course I’m eager," Xavier replied without hesitation. "Why wouldn’t I be? This concerns my sister’s safety."
The smile on Princess Evelyn’s face widened.
The more she got to know Xavier, the more she liked him. Not only he might be the first genuine awakener with a legendary class, he also deeply cared about his loved ones.
Princess Evelyn exchanged a glance with Lirin and said, "Just a little more, and we’ll be there."
Her confirmation finally allowed Xavier to relax a bit.
...
They continued moving under the night sky, avoiding monsters when they could, and fighting when they had no choice, carving a bloody path through the wasteland.
When Xavier found a moment of calm, he decided to question Zerin.
"Zerin, what is this corruption? Do you have something to do with it?"
More than an accusation, his words sounded like a statement of fact. He had a strong feeling she was responsible.
"Of course it has something to do with me," she replied with a mocking laugh inside his head. "Finally figured it out, huh? Big brains."
Her sarcastic voice echoed in his mind, though her presence was nowhere to be seen.
"Then do something about it," Xavier said, his face turning slightly indifferent. If she knew exactly what was happening to him, why wasn’t she doing anything?
"Tch. Do you really think you’re the only one getting corrupted?" she sneered. "I’m in the same situation. There is no solution to this. You’ll just have to get used to it—just like me."
"What do you mean you’re also getting corrupted?" Xavier’s tone was suspicious. He couldn’t quite grasp what she meant.
However, instead of answering, Zerin simply said, "Don’t ask. Even if I tell you now, you won’t understand. Just wait—you’ll find all the answers eventually."
Xavier wasn’t satisfied with that at all. He had the urge to force her to tell him the truth, but for some reason, he didn’t. His instincts told him that, this time, she wasn’t lying—she was being honest.
Even so, his questions weren’t over yet.
There was something else that had been bothering him for a long time.
"Fine. Then at least tell me why you asked me to keep my free distributable stat points in Health?"
That was something he was truly curious about. If not for her warning, he would have long spent all his free points. With that, he might not have struggled so much in the battle against the Goblin King.
With the bonus from his class and all his level-ups, he had managed to save over forty points.
If he used all of them now, he could push any one of his attributes close to a hundred.
There was a brief silence. Zerin didn’t speak for some time, as if she were contemplating something. Then, a soft sigh echoed in his head.
"Fine. Telling you this won’t hurt anyone. Besides, you’re already close to reaching the evolution threshold, so it should be fine."
Although she said that, she still sounded slightly unsure. After all, this was a world now overseen by the Infinite Record—anything could happen. If she wasn’t careful, everything could collapse at the final moment, just like how her grand plan had backfired before.
Xavier was about to press her again when Zerin’s voice returned.
"You might have already noticed, or maybe you haven’t... Some of your class skills aren’t able to reach their full potential. With your legendary class, you must have felt it."
The memory of the pain when his stats were boosted by one hundred percent flashed through his mind. At that time, it hadn’t made any sense to him. His Health had increased too, so logically his body shouldn’t have failed to withstand the sudden rise in strength. His physique had improved along with it, after all.
But now, hearing her words, he realized there was more to it than he had originally thought.
So there is really something to it.
"Hmm...So you really noticed huh!" Zerin sounded slightly surprised as if not expecting Xavier to encounter the restriction so fast.
