Legendary Beast Master: Starting with Contracting SSS Rank Dragon-Chapter 43: Flame of Desire
Chapter 43 - Flame of Desire
Although Kael was amused by the way Tharnyx had designed the Labyrinth, he was still very cautious as this was all real. If he fell in that burning lava river, even his Dragon physique wouldn't save him.
He could feel the terrible heat even from the distance, making him wonder if it was an enhanced version of lava.
He dodged two more fireballs and realised that Kiona had already rushed to the undead monster's side. Just when it was going to draw another arrow, she smashed her fist right through its square-shaped skull.
Kael activated his [Beast Sense] and searched throughout the area, intaking every sign of the monsters. He noticed how the skill could now sense the monsters in it.
'Bonus of leveling up, I guess. I was using it a lot, after all.'
He detected a few monsters and ran towards Kiona, who had to punch the skeleton again to kill it properly.
In the corner of his eyes, he noticed the twins following him so he ordered, "The bridge isn't big enough for you two so you should explore the other side of the floor. We will meet here again in an hour."
Jon nodded in excitement and quickly turned around, running towards the sides on the dark brown rocks. His brother followed him as they went to explore the other side.
On the other hand, Kael stopped behind Kiona and punched at an incoming ball of fire from the lava lake. Upon contact, it burst into a small explosion, but something was thrown back in the lake.
He shook off the flames from his hand and looked at Kiona, who had finished off the skeleton by then. Under his eyes, it dissolved into ashes and scattered with the hot winds.
"No drops," Kael shook his head and said. "Let's continue, but beware of these fishes. They'll jump on you."
Kiona had noticed the way Kael had saved her but she didn't say anything. It wasn't the time to say thanks or anything.
The two proceeded forward on the stone bridge that was just wide enough to hold two of them and was made directly hanging mid-air above the lava lake. If there was even a small mistake, they would fall directly in it.
Given how even Kiona was sweating in the extreme temperature, Kael had no doubt that they would be cooked if they fell in the lake.
As they ran using their high speed, they encountered many of the fishes covered in lava slamming themselves upon them. It was as if they were doing suicide and taking the two of them with them.
Fortunately, Kael was prepared for them as the game had something similar. He kept his focus on them and used his claw to sweep off them.
Kiona used similar tactics to deal with them and remained closely behind him. Her brows suddenly quivered as she discovered the bridge broken not far from them.
But Kael didn't slow in the slightest. He just smiled and said, "Gimme your hand."
Kiona complied and placed her hand after retracting her paws in his hand. Her heart skipped a beat when he tightened his grip on her hand, as she smiled in bliss.
"[Lightning Mantle]," Kael muttered, as lightning crackled around him, increasing his speed by a notch.
He didn't hesitate and sped up even more, dodging the fishes that lept out of the lake. Reaching the end of the broken bridge, he kicked his feet against the edges and jumped.
Kiona yelped in surprise and shifted close to him in mid-air. Her eyes were drawn to the lava and she felt a strange warmth in her heart.
'Is it from the lava or him?'
Still, it didn't matter because she liked the feeling. She looked at his side profile and wondered why it felt so attracting. It made her heart flutter.
She wasn't an innocent girl who couldn't recognise her feelings. She knew she was falling for him and she had no control over it.
Many beast tribes followed the rule of strength, so they were attracted to powerful beasts. For females, it was especially true since they liked dominant, powerful male.
Kiona was no different, but she also liked other aspects of him that had shaken her heart and also captured it.
But she knew she wasn't really worthy of him yet. He was bound to rise as he was a Dragon, so she would need to be stronger to stay at his side.
A flame of desire lit up in her heart as she swore to become worthy to stay beside him. It was kind of funny to her since she was used to seeing males competing against each other for her approval, but here it was the opposite.
Still, she understood her place and knew what she needed to do to stay by his side. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Before they could even land, she noticed a pair of skeletons standing on the other side of the bridge. She smiled and said, "Throw me towards them."
Kael didn't object and after dodging an arrow, he threw Kiona with all his strength towards the skeletons. Then, he crashed into the stone bridge, as it cracked under the force.
Kiona was sent flying through the hot winds and noticing the skeletons getting ready to fire another pair of arrows, she opened her mouth and roared.
[Pyrohowl Domination]
Instantly, the skeletons flinched and their actions were delayed. But it was only for a second. They didn't have a mind of their own, so the effects of her intimidation was small.
However, it was more than enough for her as she descended upon them like a herald of flaming destruction and in two swift attacks, separated their skulls from their bodies.
Her uppercut punches were getting more and more effective.
'Two E-Rank Undead monsters dispatched in one go, nice!' Kael thought and went over to her location.
"Master, I heard that you only get half of the Soul Power in Labyrinth compared to the outside world," Kiona asked in confusion, as she clenched her fist. "But I feel I'm getting the full... no, a bit more than usual actually."
"That's because we discovered it first so we got a buff. We'll get double the Soul Power for a week here," Kael explained, as he walked past her. "You're also fighting alongside me, so the effects of my Beast Taming is showing."
"I see," Kiona looked at her fist and smiled. "Then, I wish to fight here all week. I want to reach the peak of D-Rank before I exit the Labyrinth."
"That's a lofty goal but I also support it," Kael nodded in agreement and looked at the volcanic mountain rising high in the sky.
Several streams of lava were running down from it, drenching the world in hotness. It was a beautiful yet harrowing sight.
'I also need to reach D-Rank quickly,' he thought.
The only problem was that he was at Legendary Stage in evolution, meaning his soul needed much more Soul Power to rank up compared to others.
That was also the reason why Kiona didn't rank even after killing so many Fanged Lions and a Flameclaw Lion. She was at the Rare-Stage of Evolution, after all.
As he was contemplating those matters, he noticed something at the end of the bridge. A dozen of skeletons were gathering there and it wasn't just the archer ones.
'Guess the whole gang is here.'
He smiled and said, "Time to farm!"
