Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 272: Luo An: Reesi, you’ve come at just the right time
"Morton York."
Seeing the smile on Luo An's face, Agent Ivy's mind immediately conjured up the image of the mutilated corpse, causing her to take a subconscious step back as she replied:
"Team four has the highest case closure rate. Team leader Morton York has been with the FBI's Los Angeles Branch for a long time and has significant seniority."
A glint of understanding flashed in Luo An's eyes. Seniority meant knowing a lot of people at the FBI's Los Angeles Branch, which would make it easy to throw a wrench in his works.
"Thank you, Ivy."
"You're welcome."
Agents Ivy and her colleague drove with two corpses, while another two agents took the charcoal gray Porsche. Luo An and Mona, meanwhile, escorted the driver in the black car that was missing a window.
During this time, Luo An and his partner returned to their hotel for a quick change of clothes.
While sitting in the car waiting for Mona and guarding the driver, Luo An's phone in his pocket suddenly rang.
After pressing the answer button, Luo An asked:
"Reesi, how are things on your end? Are you hurt?"
"Don't worry, I'm fine."
There was an almost schadenfreude tone in Reesi's voice from the other end of the phone as she boasted about witnessing a live-action blockbuster on the streets of Los Angeles: freeweɓnøvel.com
Under the well-lit Los Angeles streets, a silver-gray sports car was zigzagging and zipping rapidly through gunfire. Several black cars were shooting and following closely behind, and right behind them was a chorus of shrieking LAPD police cars.
As time passed, the distance between the silver-gray sports car and the black cars narrowed. Just as everyone thought the pair in the sports car would meet their demise on the spot, suddenly, a few new cars burst onto the scene.
These newcomers wedged themselves between the black cars and the sports car, colliding fiercely and exchanging fire with several of the black cars, further escalating the chaos on the streets of Los Angeles.
The LAPD and the FBI agents, looking to avoid friendly fire, quickly took cover and called for SWAT backup.
The mayhem didn't last long; the new force showed fierce firepower, rapidly taking down four of the five black cars, leaving only one to realize the tide had turned and quickly flee the scene.
And after this black car made its getaway, the newcomers quickly disappeared without a trace.
By the time the LAPD and the FBI finally got into the fray, the scene had left them nothing but a number of oddly shaped vehicles and a heap of corpses.
At this point, Reesi couldn't help but marvel:
"Luo An, these groups are clearly not ordinary. The team leader of the primary FBI investigation team immediately dispatched SWAT members to encircle the nearby area, but by his expression, it seems they caught no one."
Hearing this, Luo An raised an eyebrow and asked:
"What about the sports car?"
"The sports car also vanished."
Reesi, standing on the sidewalk and eyeing the enraged face of the FBI investigation team leader, let out a sly laugh, then turned to leave while whispering:
"However, I managed to snap a few photos of the two people in the sports car amidst the chaos. The picture quality isn't great, but their faces can still be somewhat identified."
"Nicely done, Reesi!"
Luo An instructed Reesi to head straight to the FBI's Los Angeles Headquarters. He was eager to see who made his newly purchased Porsche turn into a fireball.
They would have to pay for this!
————
FBI Los Angeles Branch Headquarters, located in West Los Angeles, is a very solemn-looking square building.
Directly across the street to the southwest is a veterans' hospital, and a museum is not far to the east. It's less than a twenty-minute drive to Beverly Hills and just over thirty minutes to Hollywood.
Holding the keys to the dedicated office area of the Special Investigation Team given to him by team supervisor Potante Byrne, Luo An and Mona, escorting the driver, took the elevator up to the 11th floor of the branch building.
Then, at the end of the corridor, they found a spacious and bright office area with a generous view and plentiful moonlight... but it was covered in dust, furnished only with a few battered desks and chairs, and lacked any specialized equipment.
"..."
At the entrance to the office area, Mona, who was holding a notebook, fell silent for a few seconds before silently turning to look at Luo An.
Luo An felt a toothache coming on. He had not been concerned about finances before, but now that he was holding the team's funding, he suddenly understood how Augustus must have felt.
And thinking of Augustus, Luo An recalled the brand-new equipment of Team Five... and how he'd much rather have all that here.
Several thoughts flashed through Luo An's mind, and with a slight smirk, he turned and grabbed the driver from Mona's grasp and cheerfully said to Mona:
"Everything is difficult at the beginning, it'll get better later."
"I hope so."
He opened the iron door to the temporary detention cell and threw the driver in, selectively ignoring the driver's complaint about the dusty floor. Luo An shook the interrogation record in his hand and, seeing Mona getting ready to clean the room with a glass of water, hurriedly said:
"Mona, there's no need to clean the office area."
The office area was large and full of clutter and trash. It would definitely take a long time for just Luo An and Mona to clean up.
Mona was somewhat puzzled:
"If we don't clean the office area, how will we proceed with our cases?"
"One chief's office is enough, since there are only three of us right now."
Luo An let out a chuckle, took the cleaning tools from Mona's hand, and pushed open the door to the chief's office.
Then the two discovered that the chief's office was even cleaner.
At least there were some old desks in the outside office area, but the chief's office was completely bare, except for dust, and more dust, and even more dust.
Luo An's expression didn't change as he picked up the cleaning tools and began to clean the chief's office. Mona followed him, sighed, and started cleaning as well while asking:
"So, after we arrive in Los Angeles, do we have to buy our own desks?"
"No."
Luo An looked through the window at the black car he had driven over and laughed:
"Someone will deliver the desks for us, and maybe even computers and stuff too."
"?"
Mona looked back in confusion, just about to ask, when suddenly Reesi's voice came from outside:
"Luo An! Mona! Did I go to the wrong place? Or is it a bad time? What's going on here?"
"No, you've come at just the right time."
Luo An opened the door of the chief's office and, upon seeing Reesi's eyes light up, eagerly asked:
"You've had a tough night, Reesi, the photos?"
"I canceled a date tonight for this, you owe me a special Mexican chicken wrap tomorrow."
Reesi pulled out her cell phone from her pocket and handed it to Luo An, which contained a dozen or so photos. The quality wasn't great, but you could barely make out the faces of two people in the sports car.
"Mona, it's all up to you now!"
Handing the cell phone to Mona, Luo An asked her to try to identify these two people, then shoved the cleaning tools for the office into Reesi's hands.
Reesi: ???
Seeing the expression on Reesi's face, Luo An grinned:
"The cleaning of the chief's office is now your responsibility. I've got to run an errand and will be back soon."
With that, he didn't wait for Reesi to respond and quickly left with the interrogation records.
Watching Luo An's figure disappear in an instant, Reesi's mouth twitched, turned her gaze to Mona, who raised the laptop in her hand and handed the other cleaning tool to herself, showing a lovely smile:
"Good luck!"
"..."
Reesi looked at the tools in her hands and looked up speechlessly:
My life better not be ruined by this man and woman!
While Reesi began cleaning the chief's office, several SUVs slowly drove into the parking lot.
A white man in the lead got out of the car and upon seeing the black car in the parking lot that was the same model as those on the streets of Los Angeles, his eyebrows furrowed sharply, and he turned back and asked sternly:
"What's the deal with this car?"
