Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 45: Black Widow (Please Follow!)
"Sorry, Reed."
After hanging up the phone, Luo An tilted his head and gave Reed an apologetic look, shaking his cellphone:
"I'm afraid tonight is not going to work, something came up last minute. How about next time? I'll definitely go next time!"
"OK!"
Reed didn't mind and just grinned, starting to excitedly discuss with Luo An the techniques of tossing objects around.
Seeing how easily Luo An could throw business cards, photos, and pens into a file folder, Reed became vocally amazed and repeatedly begged Luo An to teach him this trick.
"Why?"
Luo An agreed but was still somewhat puzzled.
Reed was already married, and Luo An hadn't heard from Reesi that Reed liked to go playing around behind his wife's back, so why did he want to learn something that apparently was meant for flirting?
Moreover, to use it in actual combat would take at least a year and a half, it wasn't possible without that much time; better to spend that effort practicing shooting and improving marksmanship instead.
Hearing Luo An's question, Reed's face stiffened, glanced at Reesi lying asleep on the desk and Mona busy battling with the computer, and seeing that both of them weren't paying any attention to this conversation, he then whispered into Luo An's ear:
"My wife's favorite thing to do every weekend is to compete with me. Except for martial arts where she's no match for me, I can't beat her in shooting or anything else, so I want to practice tossing objects to win against her for once!"
"Er, if I may ask, where is your wife from?"
"Texas!"
"..."
Glancing at Reed, who was flushed with eagerness in his eyes, Luo An fell silent for a moment.
Luo An recalled ever since he joined the Unit Five investigation team, whenever Reed had no work tasks, he'd lie down at the back of the office area doing push-ups.
Initially, Luo An thought Reed was working out to maintain his physique.
Now it seems more likely that Reed had lost in a competition, his wife wouldn't let him into bed, so he had to do push-ups every day to release his pent-up energy.
Married man's life, ah.
Luo An shook his head inwardly, raised his hand, and gave Reed a firm pat on the shoulder, a serious expression on his face:
"Don't worry, Reed, I'll teach you a crash course later, it might be a bit strenuous to kill an enemy, but for throwing things further or causing more damage with the objects, you definitely won't lose!"
Reed's lips trembled with excitement:
"Luo An! From today on, you're my lifelong best brother!"
Luo An: "..."

After chatting with Reed for a while longer, it was quickly approaching 5:30 in the afternoon, which was when the FBI office closed.
"See you tomorrow, Luo An!"
"See you tomorrow!"
After greeting a few agents, Luo An, along with Mona, Reed, and Reesi, walked to the parking lot talking and laughing, then discovered that his car was gone!
"Wait a second, Luo An."
Seeing the shocked expression on Luo An's face, Reesi was somewhat speechless and finally, Mona explained:
"Luo An, the car you've been driving for the past two days is our Unit Five's official vehicle, not your personal car. Since there's no mission today, the official car naturally got taken away by Augustus's people for cleaning."
"..."
I was thinking of never buying a car in my life and always mooching off the FBI's SUV!
Luo An rolled his eyes, scoffed at the stingy Augustus, declined Reed's invitation, and turned to get into the passenger side of Reesi's sedan.
"Take me to 'Flame Queen' bar, thanks."
"You... sure?"
Seeing the frown on Reesi's face, Luo An paused, puzzled:
"What's wrong, is there a problem?"
"Was it Lydia who asked you to go?"
"Exactly."
Hearing Luo An's words, Reesi took a deep breath, turned around, and said to him seriously:
"Luo An, I'm giving you advice as a friend and teammate, you better not maintain a long-term relationship with Lydia, OK?"
Seeing such a solemn and serious expression on Reesi's face, Luo An felt his heart sink. He hadn't picked up a Glock 18 from the armory after work today. If Lydia had any ill intentions toward him... Should he go buy a gun first?
Seeing that Luo An was seriously listening to her, Reesi breathed a sigh of relief and continued to explain:
"Lydia is 30 years old this year but has already been married four times. The times were when Lydia was 22, 24, 26, and 28 years old. And after each marriage, her husband would die within a year.
After the death of her husband, she would not engage in relationships with anyone until she found her next husband."
"WTF?"
Luo An's entire body tensed, and his scalp felt like it had exploded:
"You mean, Lydia marries to get her husbands' wealth and then kills them after the marriage!
... A Black Widow?"
This wasn't the first time Luo An had heard of such things in his previous life, and for money, those women were more ruthless than men, and marriage was just one of their means.
Hearing Luo An's words, Reesi was taken aback, but she quickly shook her head and said:
"No, Lydia didn't obtain wealth by killing her husbands. On the contrary, after each husband's death, Lydia's own wealth would take a big hit.
At the age of 22, Lydia inherited a series of chain bars from her father, but after the deaths of several husbands, she paid a lot of money to appease their parents. Now, she is only left with the 'Flame Queen'."
"Hm?"
Luo An's face froze as he listened to Reesi. Could it be that Lydia was the target of someone's scheme?
But, that doesn't make sense. All those husbands are dead, the money wasn't even spent, and to be so philanthropic for the family's sake?
"It has nothing to do with money, Luo An."
Remembering what Luo An just said and seeing the expression on his face, Reesi guessed his thoughts and shook her head directly:
"It's an issue with Lydia herself."
Taking a deep breath, Luo An became interested in this matter:
"Please explain in detail."
"After several husbands died, we at the FBI also suspected that Lydia had poisoned her husbands, so without Lydia knowing, we signed private agreements with the families of her husbands and performed autopsies on several of her husbands."
Reesi's expression turned somewhat unnatural as she said this, but after taking a deep breath, she continued:
"The forensic doctor's examination showed that there were no toxins in the bodies of those husbands, no signs of abuse or beating, and the cause of death was simple—genital exsanguination, signs of kidney failure, and the heart suddenly stopping during vigorous activity, making it too late for resuscitation, resulting in abrupt death."
Luo An: "..."
So, these husbands died of excess indulgence, worn out on the bed?
At this moment, Luo An suddenly remembered his terrifying face when he woke up that afternoon, as well as the soreness in his lower back... he was startled.
Indeed, he now realized that Luo An Greenwood had also played around with women before, but he had never felt such pain.
Moreover, he didn't lack exercise in his daily routine, and logically he couldn't be so weak.
The reason for the sore lower back was clearly not his own; it had to be something with Lydia.
"So, Luo An, I hope you don't go looking for Lydia."
Seeing Luo An looking down in contemplation, his expression flickering, Reesi breathed a sigh of relief and smiled:
"There are plenty of beautiful girls in New York; if need be, I can give you a few more business cards tonight."
"No, I'm going to find Lydia."
After a long pause, Luo An looked at the system page, had some thoughts in his mind, and with a flash of determination in his eyes, he declined Reesi's kindness decisively:
"I want to uncover the truth about this matter."
Clearly, this time Lydia was targeting him.
Regardless of her aim, fleeing without a fight was not a good strategy.
