Legendary FBI Detective-Chapter 794 - 796: Some Movements During Life
The job of a lobbying company, besides using verbal persuasion with businessmen and politicians, also involves frequenting various entertainment venues, wielding fine wine, money, and beauties to please them.
Over time, Mr. Manager has developed a habit of being lewd one in every ten sentences; he doesn’t let the absence of wheels hinder him from driving.
After half an hour of interrogation, the disdain and contempt in Chenier’s eyes continued to grow, while Luo An’s facial expression remained calm throughout, perfectly displaying the demeanor and work attitude expected of an outstanding team leader.
However, some of the things Mr. Manager said made sense upon reflection, and Luo An silently took note—learning more knowledge is always beneficial.
Stepping out of the interrogation room, Chenier’s face was dark with anger. Mona and Michelle immediately approached, asking:
"How did it go, did you find any clues?"
"No."
Chenier shook her head slightly and explained:
"This manager doesn’t know anything."
The manager and Leisha met by chance in a bar, and without much conversation, inebriation led them astray into the suite of a neighboring hotel.
After the sustenance of meals, Leisha, with her superb skills, successfully persuaded the manager to get her a job at the lobbying company.
As for Leisha’s past, the manager knew nothing and had no interest in knowing; a clean physical relationship was preferable, with no need to involve the messiness of feelings.
After listening to Chenier’s account, Mona and Michelle were frustrated, while Luo An closed the folder with the interrogation records and asked:
"Michelle, how is the surveillance from the night of the incident going?"
"Sorry."
Michelle shook her head, her expression grim, and frowned as she said:
"The night the Cadillac had trouble, indeed, many cars passed that road.
I’ve carefully checked those cars—the drivers are either ordinary residents living nearby or casual passersby.
None of them fit the profile of our man with the footprint, and no other women were found in the cars.
Moreover, there are many other roads without surveillance near that highway, which connect to even more unmonitored paths, so..."
"It’s okay."
Luo An patted Michelle on the shoulder, signaling her not to worry.
From the profile results, it was evident that the man with the footprint was quite confident in his abilities and had a suspected military background. Luo An had mentally prepared for the possibility that the opponent had strong anti-surveillance skills and that they might find no leads at all.
After directing Chenier to take the manager out of the building, Luo An entered the office area to start organizing the clues currently in hand.
Before long, Winslow and Reesi returned to the special investigation team and brought a white male in his fifties into the interrogation room.
"Thanks for your hard work."
Luo An handed two cups of coffee to Winslow and Reesi, then led Mona into the interrogation room.
"Hello, Mr. Eric."
After glancing at the information on Mona’s computer, Luo An pushed a photo of Ashiya in front of the man, asking:
"Do you recognize her?"
Eric, nearly one meter ninety tall, with a broad, muscular face and beefy physique, was the epitome of a federal man.
"I recognize her."
Eric, in his fifties, looked steady, glanced at the photo, and quietly replied:
"Her name is Emma. She used to work at my gun store."
Eric explained he owned a gun store and that Emma had worked there for some time.
Because she was nimble, worked diligently, and had a cheerful and straightforward personality, Eric’s son took quite a liking to her.
Eric initially had no objections, as Emma was good-looking and had a pleasant personality. It wasn’t easy for his son to finally find a girl he liked, and he didn’t want to stand in the way of young love.
"Then I started to dislike her."
Eric tapped the photo of Ashiya and said with a displeased look:
"It was about half a year ago, one evening, under the pretext of wanting to go on a date with my son, Emma said she would be working late.
I didn’t pay much attention to it; I rarely interfere in my son’s affairs.
But the next day when I went to the gun shop, I found my son passed out from drinking in the back room of the shop.
Emma had used the keys on my son to open the money cabinet and stole $3,000 and a handgun, disappearing without a trace."
The name Emma was clearly another alias concocted by Ashiya. Mona simply noted this down, then tapped a few keys on the keyboard, and asked incisively:
"But the local police records don’t show any report of the incident from you."
Eric snorted coldly with a look of disappointment and said:
"After my son woke up, he was very angry, saying it was his fault, but he would earn back the lost $3,000 to repay me and pleaded with me not to report it to the police.
I only have this one son, so after beating him up, I agreed to it."
A tale of a lovesick boy taken for a fool!
Luo An and Mona looked at each other, each noticing the peculiarity in the other’s eyes. After a moment of silence, Luo An continued:
"The motel owner said you were looking for Emma some time ago, what was that about?"
"That was me asking someone to help look for her."
Eric stated that he actually didn’t care much about the $3,000, because after that incident, his son completely changed his previous irresponsible attitude, worked hard, and gradually earned back the $3,000 to repay him.
Trading $3,000 for a completely reformed son seemed like a good deal to Eric.
The problem was that besides the $3,000, Emma also stole a handgun.
Eric worried that Emma might use the handgun to commit a crime, which could eventually lead the police investigation back to him. Therefore, he had been secretly asking people to investigate and look for Emma.
After several months of searching, Eric finally found Emma in a youth hostel in Southern Washington D.C.
They met in a room at the hostel, and before Eric could say much, Emma—or Ashiya—apologized directly, explaining that she had taken the handgun for self-defense under special circumstances. She not only returned the $3,000 but also gave back the handgun to Eric.
Eric didn’t expect Ashiya to be so cooperative. He was at a loss for the words he had prepared, so after exchanging a few formalities, he told Ashiya not to seek out his son again, and then he left the hostel with the gun and the money.
After Eric finished his statement, the interrogation room was quiet for a moment.
Luo An glanced at the interrogation records on Mona’s computer and pieced together the clues from before, part of Ashiya’s movements before her death became clear:
First, she worked at Eric’s gun shop for a while, using her charm to attract Eric’s son, and then took the opportunity to steal $3,000 and a handgun.
Afterward, she came to Washington D.C., stayed at a youth hostel, and started working at a private club, where she seemingly used her body to make quick money.
The Cadillac owner Imre was likely a new client of Ashiya’s, but for some unknown reason, Ashiya chose to slit his throat, escaped from the car into the woods, and was eventually defeated by a man who followed her footprints and taken away, disappearing entirely.
After pondering for a few seconds, Luo An looked up and asked:
"During your search for Ashiya, did you notice anything suspicious?"
"No, not really."
Eric first shook his head, then asked in a serious voice:
"However, around the time when Ashiya had just disappeared, someone was lurking around the opposite side of the gun shop.
At that time, suspecting that person might be connected to Ashiya, I tried to organize a confrontation, but they noticed us beforehand and escaped the encirclement."
Luo An’s eyes narrowed slightly and he asked:
"Do you know who that person was?"
"I don’t know, but the car parked at the side of the road belonging to my friend captured that guy’s face!"
