Chapter 36: Star of the abyss church

They walked into the forest carefully, Rowan still leading the way. After walking for a few minutes, a cabin came into sight. It was large but also worn out, broken and falling apart.

Right from where they stood, they could already feel movement inside the cabin.

"Alright, Rowan, your job here is done. Head back to the village," Seer said.

"Thank you for what you are doing," Rowan said and left. He walked a few meters away until he could no longer see the group. Then he passed behind a tree, brought out what looked like a purple crystal, and crushed it in his hands.

He looked around after doing it, making sure that no one had seen, and then he rushed toward the village.

[....]

"Alright, we have to make a block around their cabin. We don’t want them to get away," Seer said.

"I can do that," Jake said and summoned his undead skeletons, all ten of them. He instructed them to make a perimeter around the cabin with equal distance covering every main escape route.

"It’s not going to be a full barrier, but they should be able to stop or determine if someone tries to get away," Jake said.

"That works. Let’s finish this then," Seer said, and they headed for the cabin. No cover, no care—these were average bandits. What reason did they have to fear?

But when they got within range of the cabin, everywhere went suspiciously quiet.

Whoosh.

The sounds of arrows flying through the air reached their ears. Rion reacted fast. He muttered something under his breath and moved his hands. A wave of sand flowed out and covered them like a dome, blocking all the arrows.

"They know we are here," Seer said. She placed her hand on her greatsword and pulled it. Rather than be panicked that they were found, there was a bright smile on her face, as if she had gotten what she asked for.

Rion brought the sand dome down, revealing the bandits rushing towards them from different directions. There were at least twenty of them.

Their faces were covered with disgusting smiles, their tongues hanging out, eyes shining with savagery.

"Brace yourself for your own demise," the one in front yelled before attacking Seer. But she didn’t move; the blade was only inches away from her body.

Clang.

The sound of metal clashing shook the forest. Seer had moved so fast that Jake’s eyes couldn’t even follow. She swung the greatsword so fast that it looked impossible.

The bandit was blasted away by the force, several of his bones shattered into bits, dying immediately just from the impact.

"Weak," she muttered. She looked up at the rest headed toward her. Her eyes shined like death itself; the smirk on her lips made her look devilish.

She stomped the ground and blasted forward, her massive sword to her side ready to slash.

Rion watched Seer. He clicked his tongue after she took out the first person. He also decided to get into the game. He snapped his fingers and five sand tentacles formed out of the ground and shot at the bandits. The bandits tried to stop them, but the tentacles ignored their trials and stabbed into their chests, killing them.

Jake quickly looked at Ophelia. He didn’t want to allow her to see something like this, but then he remembered what Drake said. In truth, what she had already witnessed in her life was a lot.

And with the life that he would have to face from now on, there was no way he would be able to keep covering her every single time.

Sigh He let out a sigh. "Crypt, take them out," he said. Crypt, who had been waiting for the order, immediately vanished from where he stood once he heard Jake.

He spun his spear around and slashed, one slash claiming five lives in an instant. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Jake’s eyes widened when he saw just how strong Crypt got from one level-up—it was crazy.

"Thank you, master, for helping me get stronger," Crypt said telepathically.

"Yeah, yeah," Jake responded. That was the only response that came to his head. He couldn’t think of anything else.

After taking out the bandits, Rion went ahead to snipe the archers with his sand, and everything was finished—except they had to go into the cabin now.

But as Seer approached it, they felt an ominous energy coming from within. It was thick, heavy, and very dark.

Jake, who was lost looking at the system, also felt this energy. He turned to look at the door as well. The door of the cabin slowly creaked open, heavy footsteps followed, pressing against the worn-out wooden floor.

And finally, he came out—a six-foot-tall ripped man who had only his shorts on. He had black hair that flowed all the way to his waist, and in both his hands were sabers.

But all that was not what pulled attention. What did was the four-point purple star that he wore around his neck. It was the source of the energy that they felt.

"That is the star of the Abyss Church," Rion said.

"Hahahahaha, seems you already know who I am. You are smart for an adventurer. Sorry you had to run into me, because now you will die," the man said in a very deep voice.
