Leisurely Farm Life in Beast World-Chapter 1514 - 1511: Our Names
"Shaman, how do I write my name?"
There was a hint of mischief in Ya Li’s eyes, and they were burning with enthusiasm. He was eager to know how to write his name. If he knew, he would definitely work hard to remember it and write it even better than Xiu Yan.
Ji Nuan picked up the pen and skillfully wrote the two characters for Ya Li on the paper: "This is your name, Ya~ Li~"
The two small square-like patterns were actually his name, and indeed different from Xiu Yan’s. It was a name unique to him.
"This is... my name."
"Each Orc’s name is different, and there’s a unique way to write each one," Ji Nuan was glad to see them so eager.
She moved to the other side of the long table: "Brother Xiu Yan, sit across from me."
"Ya Li, come with me." Ya Li carefully tucked the paper with his name written on it into his coat and then followed Ji Nuan out.
"Say something to me now."
Ya Li was a bit puzzled: "Say what?"
Ji Nuan laughed, "Just say any sentence you like."
"Could you teach me how to write my name?"
Ji Nuan nodded, "Alright, just that sentence, follow me inside."
The Orcs in the conference room had waited a long time, and finally, Ji Nuan and Ya Li came in.
Ji Nuan returned to the table, picked up the pen, and began to write on the paper, then handed this paper to an Orc beside her, who passed it to Xiu Yan.
"Brother Xiu Yan, this paper has the sentence Ya Li just said outside. Read it out to let Ya Li see if it’s correct."
The Orcs heard this and chuckled, looking at Xiu Yan: "Captain Xiu Yan, did you make the Shaman angry?"
"Hehe, I just watched as the Shaman and Captain Ya Li walked far away. Captain Xiu Yan definitely couldn’t hear their conversation."
"Could you teach me how to write my name?" a clear and cold voice echoed in the conference room, and upon hearing it, the Orcs looked at Ya Li, waiting to see his reaction.
Ya Li was shocked, eyes wide.
The Orcs saw his dumbfounded expression and one after another started asking excitedly: "Ya Li, was what Xiu Yan said correct? Was that your sentence?"
Ya Li swallowed hard and nodded, "Yes, that’s what I said, not a word off."
Whoosh~
The conference room instantly erupted with activity; the Orcs gathered around Xiu Yan to see the string of small square patterns on the paper.
"Everyone, please sit down."
Ji Nuan stepped forward.
"This is the power of writing. We can use letters to send messages, keep records, document our hunting, herbs, and survival experiences so they can be passed down for our descendants to see, allowing our Tribe’s knowledge to be passed down through generations. Do you want to learn writing?"
Though Ji Nuan’s voice sounded the same as usual, it seemed to carry an endless allure to the Orcs’ ears.
"We want to learn. I want to document my hunting stories, my adventures, for our kids to see."
"I want to write my name."
"So do we."
Seeing their intense interest, Ji Nuan smiled: "Currently, in our tribe, only Brother Xiu Yan and I can write these letters.
During the cold season, except for patrolling Orcs, everyone else will follow us to learn writing. Before the cold season ends, I will test everyone, and those with good grades will join me in the next cold season as I travel to other continents to teach their people how to write."
