LEVEL 0 IMMORTAL-Chapter 131: You See The Void
The moment Elias chanted those words, he nearly froze as his mind was transported into the coldness and endless depths of the void, but he forced himself to continue, knowing that if he stopped, any progress he had made may be destroyed, and he may end up alerting the being that was slowly assimilating his Ageless Echo.
Copying the creature, he repeated the first line of the Void Scripture of Containment,
"Zhul’kathar vor neth’lyss"
"In the hollow between all things, the boundary dissolves."
His mind seemed to be torn in three places, but he was already getting used to having his consciousness in two states, one in the Ageless Echo and the second residing in his body.
Having his mind in three places was extremely uncomfortable, but he managed to keep all of his thoughts fairly coherent.
His mind was in three places; the first was reliving his life, from the moment he entered the Fragment of Divinity. This Void Incursion did not seem to care about anything outside this.
The second part of his mind was buried in the cold void, which should be the mind of the Void Creature here, and the third part oversaw everything.
It was because of this third part of his consciousness that he was able to force the second part to keep repeating the words even when the coldness of the void felt as if he was pushing his brain into a storm of frozen razors.
This help did not stop here, because as soon as he had awareness of what was happening to him, Elias began to slow the transmission of information to the Void Creature.
This part was rather tricky, and the only reason he was able to do this was because of the contradiction that he experienced when he tried to fly to the sky to touch the representation of his Elder Talent, or when he tried to touch the Pillar of Sorrow in the distance.
When his Ageless Echo had tried to reach the cracked moon in the sky, the more he flew upward, the farther it was from him, and so Elias simply placed that memory in repeat, and surprisingly, the nature of this creature seemed to be one of endless patience, since it seemed content to watch his echo travel forever.
For the second part of his mind experiencing the pain of this void, this ultimately paid off, because as it went on, the coldness of the void subsided, and even though the only thing he could see in the memory of this creature was darkness, it seemed as if his mind was becoming more used to this state
However, this was not the only change he was experiencing. The third part of his mind watched with mild surprise as his Ageless Echo began to transform.
His flame was no longer burning bright purplish gold; now it was beginning to darken as if it had become corrupted by the darkness, and as time went on, the flames began to thicken.
This change in consistency was shocking as Elias watched his Ageless Echo becoming something that was closer to the consistency of magma, and then it slowly began to expand.
As the third part of the mind watched everything that was happening, Elias began to wonder... "This void creature had one of the Scriptures of the Void, and it was chanting only the first part of this scripture all this while. What is the reason for that? Does it not know more of this Scripture, or does it have to satisfy a requirement before it can continue? Anyway, what would happen if I began chanting the next part of the scripture?"
Not one to delay when the time for action was needed. Elias began chanting the next line of the Scripture of Containment, but before he began, he made sure that his consciousness was steady and as prepared for whatever changes that occurred, and in the next moments, he thanked his foresight.
Finitu’raa kwe vadis infyn’thraa
Kwe vadis infyn’thraa finit’raa kwe...
The finite shall cradle the infinite, the infinite shall strangle the finite
The finite is the infinite, the infinite is the finite, forever...
Two things happened at once, and if not for the mental preparation he made, Elias would have faltered.
The first and most obvious change was with his Ageless Echo.
It began to dramatically expand and transform. At first, it was like a shapeless blob of burning magma; then it expanded and stretched until it took a humanoid form, and in less than ten seconds, the Void creature was no longer holding a ball of flame but a humanoid blob of magma.
Elias’s mind went back to when the Commander had asked him the strange question if he had a Wisp or an Echo, and he wondered if she was aware that his Ageless Echo may have the ability to also assimilate another Echo, because he had not forgotten that she described the Incursions as Echoes.
This transformation was the first change, and the second change happened inside the memory of the Void Echo.
Before now, Elias could only see endless darkness, as if this creature had just been floating in the void for an unfathomable amount of time, but then he felt pain, and the sensation of this pain was starkly different from whatever he had felt before, and it nearly threw him out of assimilating with this memory.
It was as if the sensory organs of this creature that it used to feel pain were so drastically different from those of Elias that it almost did not feel like pain to him, but something so different he could not find the words for them; however, he knew that this Echo felt that this sensation was pain.
In this memory, the creature was being ripped apart, but this tear was not happening to its body, but to the fundamental essence of who it was.
This knowledge was horrifying, and even Elia,s who had experienced death, shuddered in horror at the thought of the essence of who you were as a person being ripped apart.
Whatever ripped this creature apart could not even be seen. Elias only had a sense of vast, clawed hands that were impossible for his mind to wrap around, and the only reason he was understanding a bit about what was happening was that he was in the mind of the Void Echo.
Shattered to the core, the Void Echo was tossed deep into the distance, and Elias had a vague sense of unfathomable distance being traversed and so much time passing by at the same time.
Then there was only darkness as the Void Echo lingered in the spaces between the stars, and the only thing left to it was hunger.
This Echo could only remain in this position and watch even the stars fade into embers or explode in calamitous explosion, and then this Echo began to feel the warmth of Elias’s memories... the softness of his skin, the way his blood rushed through his veins, and just the simple but profound pleasure of being a man who was alive.
The third part of Elias’s mind pulled back as he noticed that the memories of the Void Echo had begun to blend with his own. He paused for a while, knowing that this was the cost of assimilation.
Then, without any more hesitation in his heart, he reached for the third lines of his void scripture of containment.
