Chapter 89: You Shall Come From The Heavens

Elias did not know how long he had been held by the Commander, but when he emerged from the bliss of breathing and his senses bombarded by the breadth of Lumina that inundated everything, he shuddered as his body finally became accustomed to this new reality.

"Two minutes... that should be a record, and for you to be affected this long, it meant that in some ways your combat capabilities have neared or reached the Mist Phantom level. Hmm, so that solves the mystery about how you could stay alive for this long. I will not ask you for your secrets, Elias, without being forced, only reveal what you are comfortable with, and not anymore... not even to me." Commander Yseult’s calm voice entered his ears, and Elias, although aware that the Commander was now privy to some of his secrets, could still not help but ask,

"What is... how can this world be like this?" At this point, nothing seemed as important as knowing the answer to this question, not even his secrets.

"With your new eyes, if you walk back to the walls of Stormfall, you would see the true scope of the Heavenly Restriction. When it was instituted, it was meant to stop the endless slaughter, because inside the Heavenly Restriction, power is restricted. You experienced it inside the Fragment."

Elias’s eyes tightened when he recalled his time in the Fragment and the monsters he had killed. He knew that they must be much stronger, but a law restricted their power to not be greater than the Mist Phantom level.

So that was a Heavenly Restriction, and because of its effects, he was able to survive what he should not have survived, and he wondered, were the Heavenly Restrictions in the Greater Fragment reflect the same Restriction in Reality, because the Fragment was an exact duplicate of Stormfall.

Elias turned to the forest blazing with life, and he understood why these people who were living at the oasis would never leave. Who else would see all of this freedom and enter a prison? Elias did not know if he even wanted to return to Stormfall after he had been outside for just five minutes.

The return would be like pouring sand into his hands and stuffing his nostrils and ears with foam. An invisible weight would constantly be pressing on his shoulders, and if he was not aware of all this before, it would have been fine; now that he was, the thought of returning was not welcome.

Elias shivered, "Why are you showing me this, Commander?"

"I told you, Elias, if you survive your Ascension, I will be telling you the truth about your past and the true nature of Reality. All across Trion are these Heavenly Restrictions; they are placed on cities and all places of power, and depending on the region, the Heavenly Restrictions could be more or less. Stormfall, due to certain reasons, have multiple Heavenly Restrictions, but generally, the greatest power that can be displayed in this city is at third level, which is Mist Phantom, making the City of Stormfall a Level 3 City, however, in special locations like the Stoneward Asylum, the Palace, the Guild Halls and the Academy, the Restriction is shifted to the fifth level."

Elias sighed in wonder as he learned about the truth of a city he had lived in for most of his life, and he knew that without becoming an Ascendant Candidate, he might not have reached Mist Phantom for the rest of his life, and may never have realized that there was a restriction around the entire city that would prevent no power greater than Mist Phantom to roam around the city.

"I guess this can be a good thing," he said, "With the nature of a Siphon, a few powerful ones could wipe out entire cities just to feed their power."

"That was the reason we all accepted the Heavenly Restrictions. The history of the Siphons is long, and we have fought in many wars, none more bitter than the Heavenly Canopy war that some say has never ended, even though it began eight hundred thousand years ago. Nevertheless, I will be telling you more, but there are people below that need help, and I want to watch you kill; it would determine the path that I will place you upon."

Elias’s focus turned towards the sound and the figures he could see glimpses of in the forest, the shock of emerging from under the Heavenly Restriction settling on his bones, and the awareness that the Commander had figured out he was far stronger than his apparent level, as if she was reading his mind. The Commander sighed, 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"You have great secrets buried within you, Elias, and although I am surprised at your strength, it was not unexpected. In a few hours from now, your Incursion will be emerging, and I am going to be borrowing its powers for my plan, and if you want to have any say in this process, you will have to display your strength, Elias, for I am not the only one watching. You have the next six hours to show you are worth more than a pawn, Elias, and your test lies below."

Perhaps it was due to becoming used to this life as an Ascendant Candidate, where he was being taken from one side of the world to another, and having his reality shift so drastically on the dime that Elias was able to quickly push away the shock of his present situation and fully focused on the voice of the Commander and what she was saying to him.

He realized that his secrets were a fragile wall of smoke against someone like the Commander, and even without trying, she had been able to reveal many of the secrets that he was hiding.

However, his plans had also worked; Elias had shown enough potential, and he could no longer be used as a pawn according to the Commander, but he still needed to prove his worth. Elias did not like this, but beggars could not be choosers, and he could not expect fair treatment when he was weak.

His entire demeanor changed instantly, his hands that were slightly shaking steadied, and his eyes focused on the seven men in the forest who, at the moment, had killed three people, and if he was seeing correctly, they were eating the flesh of the slain.

"One last warning, no matter what you do, don’t look to the sky. You have escaped from under the Heavenly Restriction, and so have I, and your eyes cannot see my true form, or you will die... this is a Heavenly Law, and it is beyond my control. Are you ready, Elias?"

"My test cannot be just these seven targets, can it?" Elias asked slightly in confusion.

The Commander laughed, "The people of this Oasis live hard, tough lives, and they are not scared of death, yet for so long, they have prayed for an Angel to come from the Heavens above and ease some of their burdens. This is your test and your opportunity, Elias. How much salvation can you deliver to those who have prayed for your arrival?"

With those words, the Commander released him, and Elias found himself falling, but the only problem was that he should be at least three miles above the ground.
