Life didn't get easier, even in another world-Chapter 325
325 It came back
“You awakened The Reason?”
Kairen tilted his head.
“Wait, wasn’t The Reason, the first reason and the last result? How can you awaken such a thing?”
“I told you. The reason is the being that you people call God. She has a consciousness of her own, we can’t call her a simple reason and result. She had been asleep until that point, as her being awake can also have negative effects on the chain. Despite being the god of the whole world, she is not separated from the chain and can still affect and be affected by it. She is a being that was created from the chain, and also a being that created the chain, thus, her control over the chain is more than any other being.”
Kairen quietly gasped and nodded his head.
“You caused a fluctuate great enough for her to awaken?”
Reynold shook his head.
“The thing we caused wasn’t great. In fact, we didn’t manage to move one simple connection that much. The thing that happened was that... A small change in one connection wouldn’t just stop there but move on and on and spread to the rest of the chain, changing everything on its path, ever so slightly.
Even a small change is still a change, and a change in the natural flow of the world is never a good thing... And it’s not a single world either... Back then, we didn’t know about the existence of the other worlds... but the endless chain even connects the different worlds and different universes to each other, making the small change that we cased to spread... everywhere...”
.....
Once the redhead closed his mouth for a second, Kairen spat out the words that were on his mind.
“Man, you guys fucked up real bad...”
Reynold let out a chuckle.
“Yeah. We fucked up real bad. So bad that when The Reason woke up, she couldn’t find a way to stop the change from spreading. If that kept going on, who knows what would happen to the world?”
Listening to those words as if he was listening to a fantasy story, Kairen continued to nod his head to encourage the man to talk, though Reynold didn’t seem to need any encouragement.
“So she broke the chain.”
“...Yes?”
“She broke the chain to stop the changes, as the danger that the changes could bring was worse than the danger caused by breaking the chain.” 𝗳re𝐞𝓌e𝚋n૦ѵ𝗲l. co𝐦
“...It’s alright to break the chain of the universe?”
“Nope!”
Reynold shrugged.
“How could it be alright? The thing that universe up was broken, how could the worlds be fine? The changes were stopped, though the causes were also shattered. What would happen in that situation? The chain is not so vulnerable. The wheel of the world wouldn’t fall apart that easily, if it would, the world wouldn’t even come into existence from the beginning. So it had to heal itself.
With the help of The Reason, the chain started to repair the broken parts. It could create new reasons and results to replace the lost ones and make new connections. That way, it could repair itself. Though, there was a problem.”
Kairen tilted his head.
“The changed chain and the natural chain, as well as the repaired chain, didn’t match. They couldn’t fuse together and form the endless connection once again.
That was how irregular connections began to form. The irregular connections could connect the different chains to each other and make them work again. However, they were, as their name suggested, irregular. They weren’t natural, and anything unnatural doesn’t have a place in the chain.
The irregular connections created irregular results and irregular reasons. They spread out like a spiderweb throughout the chain. This created disorder in the chain, leading to the creation of chaos in the original chain and abnormality in the new chain.”
“Chaos and abnormality?”
Reynold nodded his head.
“The two new creations had nowhere inside the chain. They started clashing with each other, destroying and recreating some chains in the process. They were the chain’s leftovers, the things that the universe had to spit out in order to keep its balance. So they had nowhere to belong. Chaos... And abnormality... They both went back to their origin.”
The man drew a circle on the ground.
“To where everything had begone. The place where the changes began from.”
“To your world?”
“To our world. After the experiment, we actually managed to survive the war. The twisted chain worked in our favor and led us to be victorious. But after a little bit of time, things slowly started to change. Strang stuff was happening in our land, as well as the whole world. Strange diseases, insane natural disasters, sudden changes in the seasons, abnormal phenomena in the planet’s rotation, and so many other things. There were even changes in people. Sudden deaths with no causes behind them, changes in personality, odd behaviors, and various new mental symptoms. They were all the results of the change to the chain that we had made. Samuel understood it and came to me, saying that he could fix it.”
“Don’t tell me you let him do something weird again! The two of you fucked up the whole universe with that man’s stupid idea!”
Even Kairen could say that Samuel’s idea to twist the chain was an idiotic idea. It was genius from one angle, but pure idiocy from the other.
“I didn’t. I told him to stay low and do nothing... but he wasn’t someone to listen to me.”
“Man, no!”
Kairen wanted a comment section to write a curse comment about the development of the story, forgetting that this was the reality that the redhead was telling him and not a novel.
“Hah! He went on and continued his experiments. The next time he came to me, he said that something unnatural was nearing us through the chain at an unbelievable speed. I didn’t mind him. I was busy myself, dealing with the mess that our world has turned into.”
“Was he talking about the chaos and abnormality?”
“Yeah. He had noticed them. They were moving towards us while clashing with each other and destroying the chains on their path. There was no way not to notice them. It was obvious what would happen if that thing came to us. Our world was already about to fall... So I had no choice but to listen to what he asked me to do.”
The man took out something from... Somewhere? Kairen didn’t even notice where the thing came out of.
“...What’s that?”
In his hand was a device. The device was broken all over and was barely holding its shape. The lamp on its front was off and the round thing looked old and overused.
“Something he created to mimic the original device we used to twist the chain. He created one for me, saying that it could help us survive the catastrophe. He said we could mass produce it and hand it to everyone if we have enough time... But we didn’t have the time to do that. This is the first one and last one of those devices.”
“The chaos and abnormally were that fast?”
Reynold nodded his head.
“They struck upon us before we could do anything...”
The man paused after reaching that part and took a deep breath. He wiggled with the device a little bit before putting it down on the ground.
“I... Don’t really like to describe to you how... those things destroyed our world... You know. And I don’t think I really can describe it in any way.”
Kairen nodded his head.
“I understand.”
Silence descended in the room. No one said anything for a few minutes and the only noise was the sound of the man playing with the device and Kairen eating food. After a while, feeling that he couldn’t tolerate the awkward silence any longer, Kairen threw a question at the man.
“So your world got destroyed?”
Reynold nodded his head.
“But how come you are still alive? And also Samuel?”
“This...”
The man pointed at the device.
“Actually worked. Hah! I was happy for a moment when I saw nothing could harm me despite everything getting destroyed... But not anymore after realizing what was happening around me.
The chaos and abnormality... clashed. Their clash destroyed the chains in our world, turning them into shattered sparks and creating what we call now ‘irregularity’.
I was there when everyone and everything around me turned to sparks of irregularity, vanishing from life as if they never existed. Only I survived that. The next thing I knew after seeing that destruction was that... I was no longer in my world.”
“...You were no longer in your world?”
Reynold shook his head.
“How can you be in a place where no place exists? I didn’t know when I had closed my eyes, but when I opened them again, I was in another land. In a place where everything was normal.
I thought, for a moment, that my land survived catastrophe somehow... and kept living in that place, where I didn’t even know their language, for a while.
Until I met Samuel again.”
