Chapter 9: Gushing

The cozy atmosphere of their shared workspace was alive with energy as Masako gathered a few of their closest friends to playtest their latest game, Morin Rock. The group, excited to try out the highly anticipated fighting game, sat on the couch and chairs surrounding the TV, controllers in hand. Masako, standing by the coffee table, wore a big smile, her golden eyes sparkling with pride.

"Alright, everyone," she said, her hands on her hips. "Before we start, I just want to say thank you for helping us with this. Kazuma and I have poured our hearts into this game, and your feedback means the world to us."

Her friends nodded enthusiastically, but Masako wasn't done. She leaned forward slightly, her excitement brimming. "And speaking of Kazuma..." she began, her tone shifting to one of admiration.

Kazuma, who had been in the adjacent room working on some coding tweaks, froze mid-typing when he heard his name. He turned his head toward the doorway, curious about what she was saying. Quietly, he crept closer, peeking around the corner to watch without being seen.

Masako continued, oblivious to his presence. "I have to brag about him for a second. Honestly, Kazuma is just... amazing. I mean, this game wouldn't even exist without him. He's a genius when it comes to coding and balancing mechanics. Every single move, every combo—he made it all flow perfectly. It's like magic."

Kazuma's face flushed pink as he listened, leaning against the wall to steady himself. He couldn't believe Masako was saying all this about him in front of their friends.

"And it's not just his skills as a developer," Masako went on, her voice filled with warmth. "He's the kindest, most supportive husband I could ever ask for. No matter how stressed I get, he's always there for me, reminding me that we're a team. I don't think I'd have the confidence to do half of what I do without him."

One of her friends chuckled. "Wow, Masako, you're really hyping him up. He must be pretty special."

"Oh, he is," Masako said, her cheeks turning slightly pink, though her smile never wavered. "He's also incredibly hardworking. He'll stay up late to fix bugs or tweak something just to make sure everything's perfect. And don't even get me started on how loyal he is. I know without a doubt he'd move mountains for me if I needed him to."

Kazuma's blush deepened, his heart racing as he listened to her words. He wasn't used to being praised like this, especially not so openly.

"And you know what else?" Masako added, her grin growing mischievous. "He's an amazing cook. Like, seriously, I could eat his food every day for the rest of my life—and I do! His pancakes? Perfect. His pasta? Out of this world. He's just... amazing."

Her friends laughed, but Masako wasn't done. "And... well, I guess I'll let you in on a little secret." She leaned in closer to her friends, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper that Kazuma barely caught. "He's amazing in bed too."

Kazuma's face turned beet red, and he nearly stumbled backward. He pressed his back against the wall, trying to compose himself as his mind raced. She's telling them that?

One of her friends burst out laughing. "Okay, Masako, I think we get it. Your husband's practically perfect."

Masako grinned, looking unrepentant. "What can I say? I love him. He deserves every bit of praise I can give him."

Kazuma's heart swelled at her words, his embarrassment slowly giving way to a warm, fuzzy feeling. He couldn't stop the small smile that crept onto his face.

Finally, Masako clapped her hands together. "Alright, enough gushing about Kazuma—let's get to the playtesting! Here's how this works: each of you will pick a character, and I want you to really go all out. Try everything—combos, special moves, even just button-mashing if you want. The more feedback, the better."

Her friends nodded eagerly and got to work, diving into the game with enthusiasm. Masako moved between them, offering tips and suggestions as they played. Meanwhile, Kazuma quietly returned to his desk, his blush still lingering but his heart full.

Later that evening, when the playtesting session was over and their friends had left, Kazuma approached Masako as she tidied up the living room. She looked up at him, her golden eyes meeting his light blue ones. "What's up, dear?"

He hesitated for a moment before wrapping his arms around her and pulling her into a tight hug. "Thank you," he said softly.

Masako tilted her head, confused but smiling. "For what?"

"For everything," he replied, resting his forehead against hers. "For believing in me, for saying all those things about me earlier. I... I overheard, and it means more to me than I can put into words."

Her cheeks turned pink, and she smiled sheepishly. "Oh, you heard that, huh?"

"Yeah," Kazuma admitted, his blush returning. "All of it."

Masako laughed softly, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Well, it's all true, dear. You're incredible, and I'm so lucky to have you."

Kazuma smiled, his light blue eyes shining with affection. "I'm the lucky one, sweetie."

They stood there for a moment, wrapped in each other's arms, before Masako leaned up to kiss him gently. No matter how chaotic their workdays got, moments like this reminded them why they were the perfect team.
