.
The afternoon sun hung high in the sky, casting its heat over the bustling academy below.
The practical exam was over, and starting tomorrow, the second semester would begin.
Today was a rest day the academy gave to the students to relax and recover.
Those who’d been badly injured would spend the rest of the day in the infirmary, while the others were free to do whatever they wanted.
With the test results announced in the morning, everyone now had the rest of the day off.
Inside the Old Iron Shop, a certain boy was hammering away, working on what looked like the head of an axe.
It was Zhu Rong, and after the exam ended, he hadn’t wasted time, heading straight for the shop to finish his morning shift.
Now that classes were about to start again, he’d be switching to afternoon shifts.
He worked on the axe head for a few more minutes, and once satisfied, gave it the final touches and assembled it onto its long wooden handle.
"Kid, you know you could’ve taken the day off today, right?
Instead of coming in to work, you should be out celebrating with your friends for passing," said Han Tiezang, walking up behind him as he checked the finished axe and nodded in approval.
By now, he didn’t bother giving the boy instructions anymore.
He knew the kid was good, and his work was always flawless.
"For me, forging is no different from taking a break. And besides, what’s the point in celebrating if your girl doesn’t want to celebrate with you?" he said, shaking his head as he imagined how Liang Yuexin would react if he asked her out.
He was sure she’d beat him up, so it was better not to push his luck.
"Haha, it’s tough being young. But if she’s a good one, she’s worth the effort.
I had to work my ass off for years before mine finally fell for me. And look at me now, beautiful wife and all," Han Tiezang laughed, givving him a friendly pat on the back
Zhu Rong nodded, getting ready to leave.
His shift was over, and now he had the rest of the day free.
With the exam out of the way and his body patched up, he could finally start moving on with his plans.
"If I remember right... it should be around this time she said she’d be arriving," he thought to himself as he made his way toward the city center.
The Old Iron Shop was located on the outskirts of the city’s commercial district.
Being a small shop with modest popularity, old Han couldn’t afford a better location than this, so he set up here.
Unlike other bigger workshops in the busier parts of town, constantly flooded with customers, the Old Iron Shop sat in a quieter area, though not too remote.
Over time, old Han made a name for himself and slowly built up a loyal customer base.
It couldn’t compare to the larger forges, but it was doing well enough.
Now that that big order was finally dealt with, he’d gone back to his usual work, taking on all the small jobs he’d had to postpone.
In that sense, business was still moving, though not quite enough for a blacksmith like Zhu Rong.
He walked through the crowded streets of the city, looking around at different places.
He’d already decided to build an economic empire that would generate massive wealth and help fund his early cultivation path.
He knew how expensive cultivation would get later, so he’d decided to lay the foundations for his future source of resources.
He already had an idea of how to pull it off, and was now going to secure the core of that future commercial empire.
He walked through the city, down several streets, until finally arriving at a medium sized building that wasn’t too flashy.
It wasn’t luxurious, but it wasn’t shabby either.
He stepped up and knocked on the door.
He knocked three times and waited a few seconds.
Nothing happened, but he didn’t seem worried.
After a couple more seconds, he knocked twice again.
Finally, he took a step back and waited.
Just then, footsteps echoed from inside, followed by the sound of a door being unlocked.
The one who opened it was a tall, heavily built man in his forties, like he was on steroids.
His head was shaved, and his sharp gaze would make most people uneasy, but Zhu Rong looked completely unfazed.
When the man saw it was a kid not even twenty standing at the door, he was surprised for a moment, but didn’t ask any questions.
He simply gestured for him to come in.
Zhu Rong didn’t say anything and walked inside.
The place was relatively dim, but spacious, lit by a few wall torches.
From what little you could see, it looked like an abandoned warehouse, but neither the man nor Zhu Rong cared much about the atmosphere.
They soon walked off in one direction, and when the man stopped at a dead end, he glanced back at Zhu Rong.
Without wasting time, Zhu Rong pulled a gold coin from his pocket and handed it to the man, who nodded and pressed a spot on the wall.
The wall trembled, and in an instant, what had looked like a simple wall became a fancy wooden door, complete with decorations.
"The Entry fee has been paid. I hope our goods are to your liking." the man said in a formal tone, a complete shift from how he’d acted earlier.
Zhu Rong didn’t reply, only nodded and stepped through the door.
Inside, he found himself in a large, spacious room, with rows of iron cages lined up along both sides of a long central corridor.
The cages came in various shapes and sizes, some covered, some in full view, and you could easily see what was inside many of them. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
"This place hasn’t changed a bit," he muttered, shifting his gaze toward the end of the room.
At the far end sat a large table covered with all kinds of things, from books to bags filled with unknown items.
And sitting on a luxurious chair behind the table was a man who, upon noticing Zhu Rong, broke into a wide smile.
"Welcome to my humble little shop," the man said, getting up and walking over to him.
Zhu Rong nodded and replied,
"I heard you got your hands on some interesting products. Thought I’d take a look."
The man seemed surprised for a second before regaining his composure and nodding.
"I see. Please, follow me. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed," the man said, leading the way as Zhu Rong followed.
He’d been here in his previous life, so he already knew most of what this place sold.
Although the man went on about all the new and old stock, Zhu Rong wasn’t really paying much attention.
Eventually, they reached a section lined with cages containing various kinds of creatures.
From common beasts to rare ones, and even people.
Yes, people.
More precisely, slaves.
