Limitless Evolution: I'm The New Dragon God?-Chapter 46: A Maiden’s Ambitions (2)
Chapter 46: Chapter 46: A Maiden’s Ambitions (2)
"Bang!"
Right after Evangeline finished speaking, Venus slammed her hand on the nearest table. The plates and cups on top rattled from the force.
"Stop saying that!" she shouted, her voice sharp and trembling. "I don’t need time! I don’t want your pity... or his fake kindness either!"
Her eyes glistened, but she refused to let the tears fall. She looked at Ryu, jaw clenched, frustration etched into every line of her face.
"You don’t understand what it feels like," she said bitterly. "To train every day, to push yourself beyond the limit, hoping that maybe—just maybe—you’ll awaken. And then to be told you never had a chance from the start?"
She sniffed and looked away, folding her arms tightly over her chest.
"You don’t get it, Ryu. You already have a system. You got lucky. You’re strong now. Everyone will praise you and admire you. But me? I’m just a weak, useless girl who wasted years chasing a dream that was never mine to begin with."
The room fell into silence. Even the bubbling of soup in the pot seemed to quiet down.
Evangeline’s expression softened with worry, but she said nothing more, knowing that her daughter’s pain needed space.
Ryu remained seated, watching Venus closely. Her anger wasn’t just anger. It was grief, wrapped in pride and lashing out because she didn’t know where else to aim it.
And he understood it more than she thought.
Because once, in his darkest, most helpless days, he had done the same.
Back when he lay trapped on a hospital bed, his body fragile and full of pain, he used to lash out too. Not at the doctors, not at the world, but at the only person who stayed close—Maya.
She was just a small intern back then, still learning her way around the world of medicine. Always smiling, always calm, even when he vented all his bitterness on her. He had yelled, insulted, and blamed her for things she had no control over. Yet, she never raised her voice, never showed anger.
She endured everything with a patience far beyond her years. And when he finally looked past his own pain and saw her for who she was—a girl with a bright soul and a will that didn’t bend—his resentment slowly turned into something warmer.
She had become the sunlight in his bleak days. The way she brought him food when the hospital meals were too bland. The way she sneaked in little comic books under his pillow. The way she smiled even when he didn’t deserve it.
That’s when he had fallen for her.
Not just because of her looks or her kindness, but because she understood him. Truly understood him, even when he didn’t understand himself.
And now, seeing Venus... he was reminded of that.
The pain behind her sharp words. The fire of someone who hated weakness only because she feared it.
For the rest of the day, Ryu said nothing.
No comfort. No encouragement. He knew better. Words, no matter how well-meaning, would only sting deeper right now. They would sound like pity, like hollow sympathy from someone who already stood on the other side of the wall she couldn’t climb.
So he let the silence do its part.
But deep in the night, when the house had gone quiet and only the soft wind rustled through the wooden window frames, Ryu moved in dragon form.
His bare feet made no sound on the floorboards as he stepped toward Venus’s door.
He didn’t knock. Instead, he placed his paws on the knob and applied the faintest pressure with his enhanced strength.
Clink.
The lock snapped silently. The door creaked just slightly, giving way as he pushed it open with a nudge of his fingers. He could’ve forced it with his full power, but he didn’t want to wake the others.
Quietly, he stepped inside.
Moonlight leaked through the small window, casting a silver sheen across the room. It was simple room. A single desk stacked with books, posters of hunters and adventurers she once admired, and in the corner of the room, lying curled under a thin blanket, was Venus.
Her chestnut hair spilled over the pillow, and even in sleep, her face was scrunched in frustration.
Ryu stood silently, watching her for a long moment.
He hadn’t come to say anything. He didn’t even know what he could say. What he wanted was simple: to see if he could help her.
She had been labeled as hopeless. Zero mana. Un-evolveable. A verdict handed down by experts, sealed with official reports, and now carved into her very identity.
But Ryu didn’t believe in absolutes. Not after what he had been through.
He knelt quietly by her bedside, lowering himself until his eyes were level with her resting face. Her brows were furrowed even in sleep, like she was still fighting something in her dreams.
He wanted to see if a small fusion could awaken something within her.
There was a risk. But if it worked, he could at least call it a repayment for the hospitality House Versalon had shown him.
He slowly placed a hand just above her chest, careful not to touch her.
In the next moment, a radiant glow enveloped her sleeping figure. Then, in an instant, she disappeared from the bed.
Venus was smoothly transported to the hard stone floor of the Fusion Lab.
Her brows twitched slightly as she began to wake. Sitting up, she glanced around with a puzzled look on her face.
"Where am I?" she whispered, her voice echoing softly through the strange place.
She was surrounded by a transparent, square-shaped space floating in an endless void. The atmosphere shimmered with energy, and everything felt magical and surreal.
She remained frozen in awe, struggling to speak as the sense of mystery overwhelmed her.
A sudden gust of wind stirred the air.
Whoosh.
A figure appeared before her.
"Ah!" she cried out, stumbling back in shock.
"A dragon?"
Before her stood a magnificent golden dragon, about the size of a small cow. Its scales gleamed like molten sunlight, and its eyes shone with intelligence and power.
"Wh-who are you?" she asked, her voice trembling.
The golden dragon let out a deep, amused chuckle. Then, in a calm and clear voice that spoke in perfect human language, it answered,
"I am your—"
