Little Miss Fortune: I Will Bring Prosperity to My Tang Family!-Chapter 32: Xiaolin Won’t Cry Anymore!
Chapter 31
Xiaolin Won’t Cry Anymore!
Xiaolin ran towards Shi Luo so swiftly that everyone was taken aback. Fearing the little one might trip and fall, Shi Luo sat down and opened his arms to welcome the chubby figure into his embrace. The child burst into tears, weeping uncontrollably.
"Uh, what’s happening here?" Shi Luo looked around, puzzled, as everyone else just shook their heads, equally clueless.
"Father," the little voice whimpered against his chest, causing Shi Luo to frown.
Technically, he was her great-grandfather and had never seen her grow up. He had only ever visited to celebrate her birth. Why then was she calling him father?
"Xiaolin, that’s your grandfather, your grandmother’s brother. You should call him great-grandfather," Zhang Ruo approached to soothe the little girl, trying to pull her away without success.
At that moment, Xiaolin’s memories from her past life were flooding back, filled with thoughts of her father and great-grandmother. She missed her family terribly - her mother, siblings, and little brother.
She wished she could go back...
"Xiaolin," Hui Ning, seeing her daughter cry nonstop, started sobbing as well.
Ever since Xiaolin was a baby, she had never cried this much before. She would throw a short tantrum at most. Seeing his wife in tears, Tianrong quickly came to comfort her.
Hearing her mother’s voice, Xiaolin regained her composure. She looked up at the person holding her. He resembled her father, Somsak, from her previous life, but his gaze was that of a stranger.
She then turned to look at her supposed great-grandmother. The old woman looked like her beloved great-grandmother but her eyes were different too. Was it her longing for them that made her present mother cry?
Her parents always looked at her with love...
The little girl ran to hug Hui Ning, softly apologizing. Hui Ning sat down, holding her daughter’s swollen, tear-stained face.
"What’s wrong, Xiaolin? Why the tears, hmm?"
"I had a dream," Xiaolin looked into her mother’s big eyes and decided to lie, knowing they wouldn’t believe her if she said nothing was wrong.
"What did you dream about?"
Xiaolin sniffled and glanced at the man she had just run to hug and said,
"I dreamed that great-grandpa was my father in my past life."
"Oh, dear," Hui Ning gathered her daughter in her arms, comforting her with kisses.
"It was just a dream, sweetheart. No more crying, okay?"
Xiaolin nodded, then her mother took her to wash her face. The adults gathered together, even Hui Song, despite his swollen head.
"If she dreamed Shi Luo was her father, what does that make you?" Miss Liu turned to ask her friend, who sat quietly.
"She called me grandma and referred to herself as ’Da’."
"Da, you say? Could that have been her name in her past life?" Zhang Ruo voiced her thoughts. The others just looked at each other, while the two who were hugged thought it might be as Zhang Ruo said.
"She must dream about it often enough for it to stick in her memory; otherwise, she wouldn’t cry so bitterly," Shi Luo speculated. He thought he must closely resemble her father from a past life.
"And I don’t resemble anyone?" Shi An, who had been quiet, finally spoke up.
"You old man, just me and your son have already made the little girl cry her heart out. And you still want to resemble someone else?" Zhang Ren shook her head at her husband’s antics, who seemed old in body but not in maturity.
"Well, I thought both you and A’Luo looked like people she knew," Shi An scratched his head, puzzled by his wife’s scolding.
"Uh, let’s wait here for a moment, please. I’ll go check on what HuiNing has prepared," Tianrong interjected, unsure of how to act since his daughter had just run to hug someone else and called them father, even though he was right there.
"Then, I’ll go prepare some more food. We have quite a crowd today," Zhang Ruo sighed before following her son-in-law.
Outside, Xiaolin stood as her mother gently washed her tear-streaked, swollen face with redness all over.
"I’m sorry, Mother," the little girl said softly, looking up into her mother’s teary eyes.
"Let’s not do this again, okay? You’re just crying out of nowhere."
"I won’t do it again, Mother," Xiaolin promised, hugging her mother’s waist affectionately.
The chubby girl then begged her mother to make dried fish soup with seaweed again. Seeing her daughter had cried for so long, Hui Ning thought making some warm soup would be a good idea to prevent her from getting sick at night.
From being glued to her great-grandmother earlier, Xiaolin was now sticking to her mother, refusing to leave her side.
"Make some pickled vegetable soup too, Mother. It’s a shame we don’t have tofu."
"Tofu?"
"Yes, Mother. It’s made from soybeans. We’ll make some when winter comes. For now, let’s just make the pickled vegetable soup with salted pork."
Hui Ning decided to let her husband take their daughter to the living room first, fearing the hot water might splash on the chubby girl. Tianrong carried his daughter to the living room and put her down not far from where the others were sitting.
Xiaolin looked again at the people who resembled her great-grandmother and father from her previous world, then walked over to sit and cuddle with Zhang Ruo. Yet, her big eyes still frequently glanced at the two.
"We’re actually from the same village but hardly see each other, do we?" Zhang Ren remarked, noting they seldom visited; it had been a while since her niece came to see her.
"It’s because we all have to take care of our families. See, you haven’t seen your granddaughter at all. And in the blink of an eye, she’s all grown up," Miss Liu commented, affectionately squeezing the chubby cheeks of the only child in the house.
Zhang Ren looked directly into the round eyes that looked back at her, feeling a sudden surge of affection for the little girl. When the child had been crying, her face was a blur through the tears, but now, Zhang Ren could clearly see her big, round eyes, chubby cheeks, and pursed lips.
"Come to your great-grandma, dear," Zhang Ren beckoned the little girl who was cuddling in her niece’s lap.
Xiaolin puckered her lips but eventually crawled over to the elderly woman, hugging her tightly and burying her face in her familiar scent. The little girl’s round face nuzzled against the woman’s chest in a show of affection.
"Look at this child," Zhang Ren laughed softly, gently stroking the girl’s chubby cheek and looking down at her with adoration.
"How long have you had that dream?" She asked gently.
"For a very long time," Xiaolin replied.
"Is that so?" The elderly woman’s wrinkled hand brushed through the child’s hair, but upon seeing those chubby cheeks, she couldn’t resist giving them a big, affectionate kiss.
KISS!
"It’s truly refreshing."
Xiaolin looked up at the elderly woman, and the unfamiliar gaze she had earlier began to warm with affection, similar to how she looked at her great-grandmother. Seeing this, Xiaolin hugged Zhang Ren even tighter.
Just for today, she wanted to hold her great-grandmother tight. When she woke up tomorrow, she would return to being the usual Xiaolin, promising not to sulk or pout anymore.
"Dinner is ready," Hui Ning announced, coming in with a big pot of tilapia soup, followed by Tianrong with plates of stir-fried vegetables and omelet.
"A’Chen, quickly bring the rest of the food and the rice bowl," Tianrong instructed his younger brother.
"Right away, big brother."
"I’ll help."
Tianchen and Liu Hao disappeared into the kitchen and returned with a plate of fried peanuts, small slices of pickled vegetables, and a rice pot. The bowls and chopsticks had already been set out by Tianchen when he went to fetch the two men from the Shi family.
"This is for you," Hui Ning handed her daughter a bowl of hot seaweed soup.
"Thank you, Mother," Xiaolin moved away from Zhang Ren’s lap, sat by the table, and began sipping the steaming soup.
"Ahh! Yummy!"
"This kid is too much."
"Hehe," Xiaolin smiled cheekily at her mother, no longer wanting to make her upset by being gloomy. She returned to her cheerful self.
"Please, everyone, eat as much as you like," Zhang Ruo offered, serving rice to everyone and saving her husband for last. If it weren’t for the guests, she wouldn’t even want him to eat, really!
Hui Song offered a forced smile, taking small bites because of his sore face and the lump on his head from being hit with a wooden bucket.
"And what happened to you, A’Song?" Shi An inquired upon seeing his nephew-in-law sitting quietly with a swollen, bruised face.
"Well, what else could it be? Seeing him follow his granddaughter into town, I thought he would focus on working. But no, he ended up drinking until he had to be carried back home on a cart by Tianchen and Xiaolin," Zhang Ruo reprimanded her husband, causing Hui Song to try to appease her by picking out fish bones for her. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Still haven’t learned your lesson from your youth, huh?" Shi Luo chuckled softly, having witnessed the incident where Zhang Ruo, heavily pregnant, beat her husband in the courtyard.
"It’s just every once in a while,"
"Pfft!"
"Alright, alright, let him have his way for once, A’Ruo. And you, A’Song. If you’re going to drink, just be mindful of your limits. Don’t let the alcohol consume you like today again. It’s good that the grandchild didn’t leave you by the road," Zhang Ren shook his head at his granddaughter and grandson-in-law. From youth to old age, they still fight and argue non-stop. It’s still good that they don’t fight every day like the lady neighbor.
"Yes, Auntie."
"I will keep an eye out for grandpa," said the chubby kid with a cheeky grin, raising her left hand above her head.
"Is that so? Where will you find the time to look after her grandpa while you’re selling your goods?" Zhang Ruo saw the adorable gesture and couldn’t help but smile, instantly forgetting her irritation with her husband.
"Because today she had to borrow a space to sell our goods, so grandpa had to pay for the stall by drinking with the owner. But look at grandpa now, his face is all swollen," Xiaolin feigned a sad face and spoke in a whiny voice, making Zhang Ruo feel guilty.
"Is that so?" Zhang Ruo turned to ask her husband. He didn’t answer but just sat with a gloomy face.
"I’m sorry, honey. Next time, I’ll listen to what you have to say first. Does it hurt much? Drink some hot soup, so you won’t get sick,"
Zhang Ruo quickly scooped some soup into a small bowl and handed it to her husband. Hui Song didn’t say anything but accepted it. As the others started to change the topic of conversation, the grandpa and granddaughter sneakily glanced at each other and cunningly raised their eyebrows, with Shi Luo watching the scene and chuckling to himself until his shoulders shook.
After dinner, everyone went back to their homes, with the round host waving goodbye. Xiaolin sadly watched the backs of Zhang Ren and Shi Luo, before taking a deep breath and telling herself that they were just look-alikes, not her great-grandmother and father.
"Let’s go wash. It’s gotten late today, I’ve already boiled some hot water for you," Hui Ning took her daughter to grab a towel and then walked into the bathroom, undressing the chubby little pig.
"Can I sleep with you tonight, mommy?" Xiaolin asked her mother, her round face looking up at Hui Ning who was changing her top and letting her long hair cascaded down her back. When she turned around, the chubby child exclaimed in awe,
"Wow."
"What is it, hmm?" Hui Ning looked with amusement at her daughter’s surprised expression, her hand testing the water’s warmth in the tub, which was prepared just right.
"Mother, you are so beautiful," the mischievous child said, staring fixedly at her mother’s full C-cup breasts. Then, she looked down at herself, seeing only two mosquito bites and a round belly like a watermelon.
"Ah, luckily, my belly shields me; otherwise, it might be r-rated," she chuckled at her own pervert thoughts.
"Come on, hurry. Let’s bathe in today. I’ll make sure you’re squeaky clean," Hui Ning said, stepping into the bath and gently coaxing her daughter to join her, ensuring a nurturing and caring atmosphere.
Xiaolin was carefully placed so she was facing away from her mother, settling into a comfortable position against her mother’s breasts, her eyes gently closed as she enjoyed the attentive and soothing care being provided.
Ah, this is so comforting. She seems small but she hides them so well.
Xiaolin’s head was nestling around her mother’s soft breasts. She squished her round cheek and rested there stationarily, as though she was falling fast asleep in the tub. The moment she woke up again, she found her mother drying her with a towel then wrapped her like a chubby pupa. Hui Ning then called out for Xiaolin’s father to pick the girl up.
"Honey, please carry our daughter to her room," Hui Ning instructed her husband, wrapping a small towel around their daughter’s hair, unaware of her husband’s lustful glance.
"Father," Xiaolin, quick to catch on, tugged at her father’s shirt playfully until Tianrong realized and promptly carried his daughter to her room.
"A’Chen, when Xiaolin is ready, could you help dry her hair?" Tianrong handed a small towel to his younger brother before rushing out to the backyard, disappearing into the bathhouse.
Before bed, Tianrong, feeling light and relieved, looked at his round daughter sitting expectantly on the bed. He was thankful for the intimate moments shared with his wife earlier, which made the prospect of a crowded bed less daunting.
"Could I have a little brother, please?," she whispered to her father with a giggle, while Tianrong glanced at his wife drying her hair in another corner before nodding and smiling slyly at his daughter.
"Would you like to sleep in your room tonight then?"
"No," the chubby child sprawled comfortably in the middle of the bed, not forgetting to flash a sweet smile at her father.
"What a strange kid. I thought you said you wanted a little brother," Tianrong whispered, engaging in a playful conversation with his daughter.
"I want to sleep here tonight."
"Stubborn, aren’t you? Hmm?" Tianrong playfully nibbled at his daughter’s belly, causing her to laugh from the tickles.
"Hehe, Father!" She squirmed away to the edge of the bed, but her father followed, playfully nibbling her belly and cheeks non-stop.
"Stop, haha!"
"It’s time for bed, you two," Hui Ning joined them, and the little white piglet quickly snuggled up to her side.
Tianrong turned off the candle and lay down on the other side. Soon, the family of three drifted off to sleep together.
