Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 221: Are They Okay?
"Huff... It’s terrifying, so many Lightning Mica." Wang Jin stopped and leaned against a tree, panting heavily. After sprinting for half an hour, she was still somewhat exhausted.
"I guess we’ve intruded into their territory. Luckily, that black bear set an example for us, otherwise, we wouldn’t know how frightening those Lightning Mica are." Lu Yao still felt a lingering fear, given how astonishingly lethal the Lightning Mica were, though they looked harmless, and even a bit cute.
That’s why, at first, Wang Jin thought of touching one.
"It’s a good thing they move slowly; even after being attacked, there’s not much they can do. It’s just that there are too many of them; otherwise, we could really rake in some points." Wang Jin felt envious of the scores, each worth 50 points, which brought their score up to 137 in an instant.
"That’s how species balance each other out, otherwise, there would only be a few types of animals left. It’s like our world, where after humans became the Overlords of this planet, many animals survived only thanks to protection efforts." Lu Yao said, then glanced at the sky as a Flying Giant Beast soared overhead.
"Before, I didn’t have a particularly strong feeling about being on an alien planet, but after entering this jungle, that feeling became much more apparent." Wang Jin made a comment and then withdrew her gaze.
However, she thought this feeling was quite good, giving her a sense of wonder.
Lu Yao glanced at Wang Jin, then nodded.
Even though it was primitive here, and resources were scarce. However, Lu Yao liked it here.
Every day was filled with new challenges.
After solving a crisis or completing a challenge, she always felt a sense of accomplishment, which made her feel very satisfied.
In her own world, it was impossible to feel this way.
"Should we go back, or check out another direction?" Wang Jin spotted suitable stones on the ground, picked them up, and stuffed them into her pocket.
The slingshot wasn’t very effective against large animals, but it was quite handy for hunting rabbits and wild chickens. Moreover, her accuracy had significantly improved.
"Let’s head back, it’s getting late, and we’ve got two wild chickens today, enough to eat." Lu Yao glanced at the wild chickens in her basket.
"It’s almost dark indeed; it’s better to head back early, make some chicken soup or something." With that, Wang Jin started walking.
By the time they returned to the camp, it was nearly dark.
The log cabin they dug out wasn’t small, about a dozen square meters, enough for sleeping and storing supplies.
Beside the cabin, they were planning to build a spiked wooden wall, and they had already made some progress. At most, it would take them another four days to finish it.
The two of them lit a campfire, then took the wild chickens to the river to slaughter them.
Over the river, they had set up a makeshift bathroom where they could wash and relieve themselves—a pretty decent solution. The stream at their camp flowed faster than the one at Xu Yi’s camp; anything that fell into the river would be quickly swept away.
Overall, their current camp was much better than before.
"Sister, do you think we’ll be able to find Xu Yi and Lu Ke?" Wang Jin regretted not acting together with Xu Yi and Lu Ke back then.
After all, 57 days had already passed, leaving only 43 days until the 100-day mark.
If by then they could cooperate but couldn’t find Xu Yi and Lu Ke, it would be frustrating.
"We should be able to; after all, there are still over forty days left. Once we’ve stockpiled enough provisions, we can explore further afield." Lu Yao also hoped they could find Xu Yi and Lu Ke’s camp soon; she and Wang Jin owed Xu Yi quite a few times.
Even if there was no cooperation by then, she could still repay Xu Yi and Lu Ke.
"That’s true; even if this jungle is huge, we would have explored it in a little over a month." Wang Jin nodded in agreement, then continued to pluck feathers.
"They shouldn’t be too far; as long as they find a small stream like this, they’ll likely set up camp nearby." Lu Yao analyzed, as water sources are the primary condition for establishing a camp.
Once they find a water source, Xu Yi and Lu Ke should set up their camp nearby.
Therefore, if she proceeded towards the west and searched for the stream, she might find Xu Yi and Lu Ke’s camp.
However, their current food supplies were limited, with only enough dried meat to last seven or eight days.
In such a situation, searching for Xu Yi and Lu Ke’s camp would be very unwise.
So, only after they had at least a month’s worth of food supplies would she and Wang Jin make time to look for Lu Ke and Xu Yi.
As Wang Jin and Lu Yao contemplated finding Xu Yi and Lu Ke, Lu Ke was asking Xu Yi similar questions.
"Xu Yi, do you think Wang Jin and Sister Lu Yao will encounter any terrifying creatures, or have they already?" Lu Ke glanced at Xu Yi and handed him some bark.
"Whether they have or haven’t encountered any, they haven’t been eliminated yet, so they must be living comfortably somewhere in the jungle." Xu Yi said with a smile. After all, if they were eliminated, there would be a prompt showing which group was out. At least, they hadn’t heard of team 52 being eliminated.
"That’s true; they’re quite strong. If they can’t win, they can always run." Lu Ke said, glancing in the direction of the jungle.
Large animals don’t actually have much of an advantage in this jungle.
Because the trees are quite dense and the distances aren’t very far.
Larger sizes naturally mean less agility.
They could use the forest to deal with wolf packs, and they could also use it to escape.
The two of them chatted away while finishing up the walls for the temporary toilet.
Once done, Xu Yi went to chop down a few stalks of jointless bamboo.
"Xu Yi, are we going to weave new baskets?" Lu Ke asked as Xu Yi dragged back several bamboo stalks. The current baskets they were using were already somewhat damaged, though Lu Ke had repaired them with other bark.
"No rush on that; I plan to use them for crafting a bamboo bed." Xu Yi explained; after all, he had already mastered Basic Bamboo Art, which included instructions on how to make a bamboo bed.
"You know how to make a bamboo bed?" Lu Ke looked at Xu Yi in astonishment. Besides being a woodworker, he also knew bamboo crafting?
"Yes, I do; I learned it from my grandfather." Xu Yi attributed it to his grandfather, as this excuse was quite handy.
Lu Ke nodded, with an expression of realization.
"You should bathe first; the later it gets, the cooler it’ll become. After you’re done, I’ll go wash." Xu Yi told Lu Ke, having noticed that she had sniffed her clothes several times; she probably wanted to bathe, so he mentioned it.
Lu Ke’s face turned red, and she nodded, then went to prepare hot water for bathing.
