Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 240: Following the Plan
After resting for a while, Xu Yi began making a wooden door.
Lu Ke continued crafting pottery; she thought they still needed a pot for hotpot, so they could enjoy delicious food.
Their current pot could only boil, making it difficult to stir-fry dishes.
Therefore, they needed more tools for boiling food to diversify their cooking methods.
Additionally, they still needed to make oil lamps since both the bathroom and toilet required light.
Around 10 o’clock, Xu Yi installed the wooden door.
Seeing a few small trees left, Xu Yi decided to make a ladder. This ladder was relatively short, only three meters tall, making it convenient for Xu Yi and Lu Ke to go up and down the floors.
After all, the previous bamboo ladder was over seven meters long, which wasn’t very convenient for climbing.
The ladder was placed by the first-floor door, making it easier to go up and down.
"Now, this stilt house is truly complete." Xu Yi said with satisfaction, now only lacking a toilet.
However, Xu Yi didn’t plan to spend time on that right now.
What if a heavy rain came and flooded the place?
In that case, the septic tank would become meaningless, so as long as the smell wasn’t too bad, Xu Yi planned to use a dry toilet for now.
The chosen campsite was something he had to accept.
Spending time to find a new campsite and starting over would be too time-consuming.
"Our current camp is much more comfortable and safer than our first one." Lu Ke came out from the first floor, feeling much more secure with the fence.
As planned, Xu Yi and Lu Ke still needed to build an earth wall around the enclosure. By then, the camp wouldn’t fear any animals.
At that time, storing more oil and pouring boiling oil on any animal would definitely cost it half its life.
With over four hundred days left, building a three-meter-high wall shouldn’t be too difficult.
Xu Yi was already preparing to split large trees to make tools for building the earth wall.
Since it was planned, they could start soon enough.
"Once we build the wall, we’ll be even safer." Xu Yi smiled slightly. Once the basic work was done, they would have time to build the wall in the evening.
With a wall, safety would be truly assured.
Even monkeys wouldn’t be able to climb a vertical earth wall.
After all, with over four hundred days left and many animals in this forest, it wouldn’t be a problem for them and Wang Jin to survive 400 days.
Enduring until now, everyone’s survival skills should be quite good, and most would have a solid camp.
"Well, I just wonder what the organizers will pull, what tasks they’ll assign us. It feels like they don’t want to see us settle down. Plus, if all two hundred or more groups make it to the end, won’t the prize money be in the billions?" Lu Ke said worriedly, thinking the organizers wanted to see them struggling.
"Take it one step at a time; we stick to our plan." Xu Yi thought worrying wouldn’t help, so it was better to focus less on such thoughts. If something happened, they’d solve it when it appeared.
After all, worrying now wouldn’t change the organizers’ minds.
"Okay." Lu Ke nodded, stretched, and then said, "I’m so sleepy, I’ll go to bed first."
"Go ahead, I’ll be there soon." Xu Yi smiled slightly, it was about time, and Lu Ke indeed needed rest.
Once Lu Ke went upstairs, Xu Yi began practicing his fighting techniques.
He believed that regardless of the organizers’ challenges, strengthening his skills was never wrong.
After half an hour of practice, Xu Yi went upstairs. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Lu Ke was already sleeping soundly, a faint smile still on her face.
Xu Yi glanced at her, then tended to the fire before lying down on the bamboo bed.
Soon after lying down, Lu Ke’s leg draped over Xu Yi’s body.
This was quite a test for Xu Yi.
After all, at his young and vigorous age.
But Xu Yi remained restrained, closing his eyes.
Harmony is essential and should not be disrupted. He had warned himself from the start and never stopped.
A peaceful night passed, and dawn arrived in the blink of an eye.
On the 69th day, after ending the routine, Xu Yi got up.
Lu Ke was already up early; after all, she always had plenty of sleep.
"Morning." Lu Ke greeted, continuing with her fighting techniques practice, having already practiced for half an hour, and just another half-hour to finish.
After Xu Yi responded, he joined the practice.
The pork was finished yesterday, so this morning they only had some dried meat.
However, Lu Ke still made some shepherd’s purse soup, and it tasted quite good.
At least, Xu Yi and Lu Ke ate more smoked dried meat than before.
After breakfast, Xu Yi and Lu Ke prepared to go out.
"Xu Yi, where are we going today?" Lu Ke asked after putting on her basket.
Since the direction they went yesterday had a tiger, Xu Yi wouldn’t want to provoke it.
The day before yesterday’s direction had a lot of lightning mica, making it even more unlikely to go there.
"Upstream, right? Didn’t we suspect there was a big river upstream? And the crocodiles might have returned." Xu Yi was still thinking about crocodile meat.
Besides, he thought hunting crocodiles was a great way to rack up points.
By setting up traps and luring the crocodiles in, they could earn points and obtain crocodile meat.
Xu Yi felt that compared to other animals, crocodiles were relatively easier to handle.
"Okay, but didn’t you say you wanted to put the basket in the creek to catch some shrimp? I even saved a piece of pork." Lu Ke thought they could drop the basket before leaving, and perhaps they’d find something by the time they returned.
"Hmm, I almost forgot if you hadn’t mentioned it." Xu Yi touched his nose.
So, he and Lu Ke placed the basket in the creek, weighed it down with a stone, and put the beginning-to-decay pig head inside. Shrimp generally liked to eat decaying meat. With any luck, they’d have freshwater shrimp for dinner.
With that set up, they headed upstream.
"Xu Yi, we also said we wanted to test if the flowers are edible, but we haven’t done it yet." Lu Ke said, picking a flower and smelling it.
"Yeah, with so much to do, it got delayed." Xu Yi said helplessly; except for the rainy day, he and Lu Ke had been busy, leaving no time for such experiments.
"But now that we’ve found shepherd’s purse, it doesn’t seem necessary." Lu Ke felt there was no need to waste time if they weren’t edible.
"Well, maybe we can try when we’re free." Xu Yi said, hoping they’d find something today, like another vegetable, which would make the idea of eating petals irrelevant. After all, not many flowers in their world were edible.
