Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 245: Encountering a Pack of Wolves
"Am I too weak? If I could handle one by myself like you, I wouldn’t have to run for my life." Lu Ke said somewhat ashamed, feeling like she seriously held Xu Yi back.
"You’re already really amazing, and you’re getting better every day. It won’t be long before you can handle these beasts alone." Xu Yi said seriously, if not for his system and all those high-tech packages, he wouldn’t be much different from Lu Ke now.
Maybe he would be slightly stronger due to gender, but being this much stronger is unlikely.
"Am I really not holding you back?" Lu Ke looked at Xu Yi, asking earnestly.
"Of course not, you’re a really good teammate. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have lasted this long." Xu Yi also responded seriously.
Initially, Xu Yi was indeed worried about Lu Ke’s strength, thinking that with his system, he could let Lu Ke achieve victory effortlessly.
But in the end, Lu Ke gave Xu Yi a lot of help after arriving on this planet.
If not for her, even with the system, Xu Yi might not be living so comfortably.
Therefore, Xu Yi truly feels lucky to have signed up together with Lu Ke.
"Thank you, Xu Yi," Lu Ke said, her face full of smiles.
The two of them continued moving forward, looking for reindeer. After all, they were no longer as afraid of tigers as before. Naturally, they dared to venture deeper.
After walking for about ten minutes, Xu Yi and Lu Ke encountered a herd of deer.
But they weren’t reindeer; instead, they were more than twenty sika deer.
Upon seeing Xu Yi and Lu Ke, they quickly fled, being very timid and alert.
"If reindeer are also this alert, it might be hard for us to catch them, right?" Lu Ke said worriedly, looking at the forest where the sika deer quickly disappeared.
Only by catching the reindeer could they have a chance to tame them and turn them into mounts.
Otherwise, everything would be pointless.
"Loli Ke, isn’t that too naive? Even if you catch the reindeer, so what; it’s not easy to tame a wild creature."
"People can tame wild horses, why can’t we tame the more docile reindeer?"
"When did you discover reindeer are docile? You’re looking at the reindeer in our world, but that was an alien planet; how can it be the same?"
"No need to say more. Let’s talk after Xu Yi and Loli Ke catch the reindeer. Although capturing alive is really difficult unless traps are set."
"No need to say, they’ll definitely set traps. Xu Yi having Lu Ke weave ropes is to make snares."
"Other groups are still worried about food while Xu Yi and Loli Ke already have their sights on mounts, isn’t that impressive?"
"It’s not the first time Xu Yi’s impressed us, so I think he can still succeed."
"Wow, haven’t encountered reindeer yet, but came across a pack of wolves."
"What’s scary about the wolf pack, there aren’t many here, they must be offering points."
Upon discovering the wolf pack, Xu Yi and Lu Ke immediately launched an attack.
The young trees here are easy to climb, so there’s less worry about fighting the wolf pack.
However, Xu Yi didn’t expect the wolves to run away.
"What a shame, they took my arrow." Xu Yi didn’t expect that after shooting a wolf, they wouldn’t come and surround him, but instead fled directly.
"That wolf should die, right?" Lu Ke didn’t hit her target; the wolf she aimed at luckily dodged. So she went to retrieve her arrow.
"It’ll definitely die; our arrows have arrowheads now, speeding up bleeding. Death is inevitable, though I wonder if this counts as points." Xu Yi thought he’d be more upset if it didn’t count for points.
Xu Yi has never encountered the black iron wood, so he hasn’t found suitable materials for crafting bows and arrows.
If all else fails, he can only make use of knotless bamboo.
After 65 days here, he and Lu Ke have lost quite a few bows and arrows.
Currently, Xu Yi has only 19 arrows left, and Lu Ke has only 21.
If there’s time, they could replenish their supply of bows and arrows.
By 4 PM, Xu Yi still hadn’t received any notifications. This means that the wolf likely died without giving Xu Yi any points.
They set up three snares in the woods where there were reindeer tracks, hoping they would reappear and step into the traps.
Afterwards, the two of them picked some shepherd’s purse and returned to the camp.
Clearly, their luck today was rather average, with no significant harvest, not even a rabbit; hence, they could only have jerky for dinner.
Upon returning to the camp, it was barely past five, relatively early.
So Xu Yi went to cut a piece of knotless bamboo to carve arrow shafts during the evening to keep as backup.
For arrowheads, animal bones or wolf teeth could be used.
At present, Xu Yi isn’t particularly worried about this.
His current concern is about his hunting bow, clearly feeling its elasticity weakening.
There’s no choice; getting the current hunting bow was already quite good.
Unfortunately, Xu Yi hasn’t discovered any umbrella trees to continue crafting backup hunting bows.
Unless he finds other suitable wood materials to substitute for umbrella trees.
Being without a hunting bow is quite troublesome, as rely on it frequently.
The exchange store does have compound bows available, but they’re expensive, costing 300 points each.
Xu Yi would rather find suitable materials himself than spend 300 points.
His current hunting bow’s power is only slightly reduced and can still be used for another one or two months before totally losing its function. Xu Yi feels he should be able to find replacement materials within that time.
He knows how to make compound bows, but lacks the corresponding materials.
Even making horn bows requires many materials, none of which Xu Yi presently possesses.
Thus, wooden bows are still Xu Yi’s first choice.
As for bamboo bows, Xu Yi has ruled them out.
He tried knotless bamboo, but it’s far inferior compared to his umbrella tree bow.
Therefore, cutting knotless bamboo is solely for making arrow shafts and other bamboo products.
Seeing Xu Yi carrying knotless bamboo, Lu Ke couldn’t help but ask, "Xu Yi, are we going to fire pottery tonight?"
"Yes, the earth kiln is already dug; we can start firing." Xu Yi nodded, originally planning to do it in the evening.
"But our firewood should be running low; there’s not much left." Lu Ke said, usually it might last another two days, but for firing pottery it won’t be enough.
"No problem, after dinner I’ll saw down a few trees; trimming the branches should suffice." Xu Yi replied, this problem is easy to solve.
