Live Strong in the Wilderness-Chapter 338: Firearms That Lost Their Effectiveness
"Let’s keep moving." Xu Yi said, and then continued heading south.
Liu Li’s concern wasn’t unfounded; if they rushed over, they might really get attacked.
For now, the power of firearms is still the greatest, far surpassing that of a crossbow.
So, it’s a risk they shouldn’t provoke.
Zhou Chun nodded, then followed along.
They continued on for over two hours, and during this time, they didn’t hear any news of any group being eliminated or people dying.
By ten, they stopped to rest.
After traveling all day, everyone was exhausted. Except for Zhou Chun, who was on the first night watch, the others all crawled into their sleeping bags.
Liu Li and Cheng Jie, who hadn’t fully recovered, were especially tired after a day of travel. But they didn’t utter a word of complaint, nor did they slow the group’s pace.
They knew they could only do so much at this point, and in case of a fight, they might not be much help.
In the dark, Zhou Chun was extremely alert, his head darting around nervously, afraid to miss any sound, yet dreading to hear any noise.
Just last night, a 6-person team was wiped out, a chilling thought.
In this state of anxiety and unease, Zhou Chun held out until one in the morning, when Xu Yi turned on his headlamp to relieve him for the watch.
"Brother Zhou, go and sleep. I got this." Xu Yi said, while continuously scanning the surroundings with his spiritual vision and engaging in spiritual meditation.
Zhou Chun nodded, indeed feeling sleepy. With Xu Yi on watch, he could sleep more soundly, finding him more reliable than his own son, Zhou Mo.
The night made no difference to Xu Yi. Using his spiritual vision, he could clearly see everything within a ten-meter radius.
His enhanced vision was far less effective compared to spiritual vision.
With his heightened hearing, Xu Yi could immediately detect any beasts approaching.
In this desert, Lu Yao, Qin Fan, and Su Yan took over the later half of the night. They were more cautious than other groups.
Three people, three directions.
Their teammates were right by their sides.
The team that got wiped out last night was seen by them during the day, with four members of that team.
Seeing a seemingly strong team like that get eliminated so quickly shook Qin Fan’s group. Thus, instead of one, three people were now standing guard.
Lu Yao felt that if they still got wiped out with three people on watch, they would just have to accept it as fate.
They also exchanged for tactical headlamps but didn’t use them at night.
In fact, they’ve been lucky so far. The three teams teleported not far from each other and regrouped at dawn.
They hadn’t encountered any animals or danger.
However, it seemed their good luck was running out.
"Bang!"
A gunshot rang out as Qin Fan fired a shot.
Lu Yao immediately turned on her tactical headlamp and aimed her gun in the direction Qin Fan had shot.
Qin Yue and Qin Chao quickly emerged from their sleeping bags, but Wang Jin was a little slower.
"Be careful, more than three animals are approaching." Qin Fan said gravely. He fired despite not seeing any animals.
Su Yan’s palms were sweaty as she clutched her crossbow.
Wang Jin held an axe, remaining calm, having been through similar situations over the 100 days.
Qin Chao was equally composed, equipped with his crossbow.
Qin Yue held a handgun with a laser sight, scanning around in the dark.
Six people formed a circle, and their defensive setup was flawless.
"The strongest group, any objections?"
"Indeed the strongest, a group of six with four having military backgrounds, and one a doctor. Wanzi, the game streamer, might be the weakest link."
"Barring any incidents, Wanzi’s group is most likely to complete the 500-day challenge, right?" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"Xu Yi’s dream team. If he teamed up with Loli Ke, they’d be even stronger, don’t you think?"
"Some say Sister Koi has unbelievable luck, ending up with such a heavenly team, cruising to the finals."
"The organizers must’ve given them an advantage; a combination like that seems unfair to other teams."
"Bang bang bang..."
A rifle fired, illuminating the attacking animals.
They were just like the beasts that had wiped out the 6-person team last night, covered entirely in black scale armor.
"Lu Yao."
Noticing something was wrong, Qin Fan immediately called out.
Lu Yao’s rifle spat fire, aiming at the beast and firing bullets.
Unafraid of bullets!
Chills ran through everyone’s hearts.
The rifle was their most powerful weapon, yet it couldn’t harm the attacking animals.
Was this the kind of attack that wiped out the other team?
Three beasts, held back by two rifles.
But their bullets would eventually run out. They had only a few magazines and would soon need to reload.
Were they destined to be slaughtered too?
Qin Fan wanted to aim for a headshot, but tracking them in the dark was already difficult, let alone hitting their heads. During the day, they could aim accurately, but at night, it was too hard.
Now, Qin Fan regretted not exchanging for night vision equipment.
If he could kill these three fierce beasts, he’d definitely spend 300 points for a night vision device.
Such frustration, having a gun, yet unable to harm these beasts.
If the desert beasts were this monstrous, how about those in the jungle area?
"Use crossbow arrows, they can penetrate." Su Yan exclaimed excitedly as she noticed an arrow on one of the beasts.
Qin Chao fired several arrows in succession, then breathed a sigh of relief.
Though they didn’t understand the mechanics, as long as it hurt the enemy, it was good.
Su Yan immediately handed her crossbow to Qin Fan, since her archery skills were average.
Qin Fan and Qin Chao depleted their crossbow arrows, and the three animals fell to the ground.
They pulled out their cold weapons and approached together.
The three creatures were barely breathing, not yet dead.
"Bang." Qin Fan fired a shot at the head of a fierce beast.
The bullet didn’t penetrate the beast’s head but just made it flinch.
"How is this possible, such force can’t tear through its scales?" Qin Yue’s eyes widened in disbelief, not trusting what she saw was real.
Yet they were covered in crossbow arrows, which were nearly fatal to them.
This turned their understanding completely upside down.
