Love Across the Light Years -The Devil CEO Indulges My Lies.-Chapter 74: Mr. Warren, don’t go.
Adelyn nodded, gently patting Eira’s head.
"Stay!"
Eira couldn’t have been happier. Her eyes lit up at once, and her face glowed with delight.
Turning to her father, she spoke quickly —as if afraid the offer might be taken back the next second.
"Eira will stay," she said, beaming.
Dylan watched her for a moment, then gave a small nod.
Without another word, he turned, ready to leave.
Without another word, he turned, ready to leave.
"Mr. Warren —"
Adelyn’s voice came soft, yet urgent.
Dylan halted mid-step and glanced back over his shoulder.
For a brief moment, she almost told him to stay.
But the thought barely formed before she suppressed it.
The entanglement between them was already complicated enough. Asking him to stay —even out of simple kindness —would only make it worse.
"We’ll walk you downstairs."
With that, she took Eira’s hand and followed him.
Dylan didn’t object.
The three of them left the apartment together, walking side by side in quiet silence.
By the time they reached downstairs, the rain had grown heavier.
Dylan’s car was parked some distance away.
Adelyn frowned slightly. "Why did you park so far?"
Her tone carried a hint of irritation —and something softer beneath it.
Dylan turned to look at her but didn’t respond immediately. His gaze alone made her reconsider her words.
She quickly added, "I mean ... it’s raining." Her chin tilted toward where his car stood. "Walking that far, you’ll get drenched."
"It won’t be a problem," he replied lightly.
And that ease only unsettled her further.
"Mr. Warren, with all due respect ..." she let out a small, humorless laugh, "... you’re not waterproof."
A faint hint of amusement touched Dylan’s expression. "Is that so?" he asked.
Adelyn nearly rolled her eyes —but caught herself just in time, remembering who exactly the man in front of her was.
"I’m just saying ... you might catch a cold."
Dylan’s gaze sharpened slightly.
He took a step closer, and the distance between them shrank.
Adelyn’s breath hitched. She wanted to step back —but something in his gaze held her still.
"You’re worried for me?" he asked.
Adelyn swallowed.
Was she?
Yes.
But not for the reason he might think.
If something happened to him —if he fell sick leaving her place —wouldn’t she have to bear some of that responsibility?
And she couldn’t afford that.
"Mr. Warren ... it’s only right for me to be concerned," she said carefully. "You were my guest."
Eira looked between the two of them, confused.
She could feel Adelyn’s fingers tightening slightly around her hand —but couldn’t quite understand why.
"You don’t need to worry, Ms. Grace," Dylan said calmly.
Then his gaze flicked downward.
"After all ... I have this."
Only then did Adelyn realize —
She was holding an umbrella.
She must have grabbed it absentmindedly while coming downstairs.
Her cheeks flushed faintly.
Could she, for once, not be embarrassed in front of him?
Avoiding his gaze, she stepped back and held it out to him. "Here. Take it," she said.
Dylan accepted it with a slight nod.
"Be safe."
"Be safe, Dada," Eira chimed in softly. Her voice no longer carried any resentment.
Dylan gave her a brief look before turning and walking away.
Adelyn looked down when she felt a soft tug on her arm.
Eira was staring up at her. "Aunt Ade-lyn ... it’s raining, but Dad will be alright."
It was meant to reassure.
Yet, somehow, it didn’t feel like one.
Instead, it lingered in her mind —
Will he really be?
Adelyn pushed the thought aside.
He was an adult. More than that —someone who handled far more complicated situations daily.
What could possibly happen to him? 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
He would be fine.
But just then —
A sharp, tearing sound cut through the rain.
Adelyn’s head snapped up, her gaze shooting toward Dylan’s retreating figure.
For a second, she couldn’t quite process what she was seeing.
The wind had picked up.
The rain lashed harder.
And then —the umbrella flipped violently.
Its frame bent under the force before one side snapped loose, the fabric tearing away with a harsh rip.
Dylan stopped.
The broken umbrella hung uselessly in his hand, the wing tugging at what remained of it.
"Dada is getting soaked," Eira murmured innocently.
That was enough.
Adelyn stared at him from a distance.
Even from where she stood, she could see it —
His neatly pressed clothes clinging to him, darkening under the rain.
His composed, immaculate image —slowly unraveling.
Men like him treated that image like armor.
And now —
Because of her —
It was falling apart.
A strange, unwelcome guilt crept into her chest, tightening it uncomfortably.
"Aunt Ade-lyn, will Dad be alright?" Eira asked softly, a faint pout forming on her lips.
Adelyn turned to her, her brows furrowing.
She thought for a moment, and a decision flashed in her eyes.
Holding Eira gently by her arm, she urged softly, "Baby, stay here under the roof. Don’t get wet."
Eira blinked, then nodded obediently.
Adelyn let go of her hand and turned back.
Without another second of hesitation, she stepped out into the rain.
Cold droplets soaked her instantly, but she didn’t stop.
She raised her hands over her head in a futile attempt to shield herself and hurried forward.
Dylan had already resumed walking —but she was still faster.
Before he could reach his car, she caught up with him and grabbed his arm.
"Mr. Warren," she called urgently, breath uneven, rain drenching her as well. "Don’t go."
Dylan turned to her.
His hair was damp now, slightly disheveled —yet somehow, it only gave him a dangerously untamed edge.
For a split second, Adelyn nearly lost her footing.
But a hand came around her waist, steadying her just in time.
The touch was firm —controlled —
Yet it sent a faint shiver down her spine.
She looked up and their eyes met.
For a brief second, the world seemed to blur into nothing but rain and silence.
"The rain is only getting worse," she said, trying to steady her voice despite the thunder rumbling overhead. "Stay here tonight. Leave tomorrow when it’s better."
Dylan held her gaze.
Then after a beat —
"You’re sure?" he asked.
