Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 195: "Yeah, He’s My Son.
The line went quiet for a few seconds. Then, Henry Lancaster, having gathered himself, let out a sharp cry. "For real!?"
He continued to feign surprise. "Rory Linden’s son?! That means he’s your son!"
As if he had been waiting for just those words, Sean Harrison agreed matter-of-factly, "Yeah, he’s my son."
"Then all that misery you went through wasn’t for nothing! You should hurry up and clear the air with my sister-in-law so your family of three can finally be together."
Henry Lancaster’s heart pounded as he said this.
He was genuinely starting to panic.
After all, he’d said all those things to Rory Linden two months ago.
What if Rory Linden told Sean Harrison?
Would Sean Harrison bankrupt his company?
’He probably wouldn’t...’
’After all, they’d been brothers for so many years.’
But Henry Lancaster also knew in his heart that winning Rory Linden back wouldn’t be easy for Sean.
After all, what Rory Linden had said that night made a lot of sense.
Sean Harrison was the one who had suddenly broken up with her back then.
She had endured so much and managed to get through it all on her own; there was really no reason for her to take Sean Harrison back now...
But Henry Lancaster didn’t dare say any of this.
Sean Harrison, in high spirits, completely missed Henry’s strange behavior. "Yeah, I’ll give that some serious thought."
After hanging up, Sean Harrison quickly made another call.
It was to Gregory Linden.
Although all the clues so far indicated that the boy was Rory Linden’s son, he still needed more evidence to be certain.
The call connected quickly. Gregory Linden greeted him politely and asked once more about Charlotte Rhodes’s health.
After a couple of brief replies, Sean Harrison got straight to the point.
"By the way, when I was visiting my mother earlier, I saw a little boy at the entrance to the inpatient wing. He was about four or five years old, maybe three and a half feet tall. When I saw him, he was playing with a Rubik’s Cube. Do you remember seeing him?"
"Ah, yes, I do remember him," Gregory Linden said, volunteering the information. "He’s the son of Dr. Linden, the one who performed your mother’s surgery."
In truth, after Sean had said just a few words, Gregory knew he was talking about Rory Linden’s son.
After all, the little boy looked so much like the man on the phone.
Based on subsequent events, he had also guessed that the child was Sean Harrison’s son.
Having gotten the answer he wanted, Sean Harrison asked, "Then do you happen to know the boy’s name?"
"Uh... I think it’s Leo... Leo Linden."
Gregory Linden recalled for a moment before stating the boy’s name with certainty.
"Leo Linden."
Sean Harrison repeated the name to himself.
’So...’
’Their son’s name was Leo Linden.’
’A name that meant he was safe and sound.’
’A very good name.’
Not long after Sean Harrison hung up with Gregory Linden, another call came in from Ethan Dixon.
Ethan Dixon briefly reported the results of his investigation. "President Harrison, it seems Miss Linden has returned to Celestria to work. I see her file has been transferred to the Cardiology Department at the Affiliated Hospital of Celestria Medical University. Her position is Director, but it looks like she just got back and hasn’t checked in yet."
"Okay, got it."
Sean Harrison then asked Ethan Dixon if he remembered the boy at Sanctum Hospital who was playing with a Rubik’s Cube.
Of course, Ethan Dixon remembered.
He also knew that the child was Rory Linden’s, and by extension, likely Sean Harrison’s as well.
Sean Harrison proceeded to tell Ethan that the boy was Rory Linden’s son.
To play along, Ethan Dixon put on a textbook-worthy performance of surprise.
Noah Sterling drove, listening to Sean Harrison call one person after another, "showing off" the entire way.
This was a completely different Sean Harrison from the one he knew.
He was like a stranger.
Noah Sterling deliberately teased him, "Are you that sure Rory Linden’s son is your son? Couldn’t she have had him with someone else?"
"Impossible."
Sean Harrison’s gaze drifted out the window, a smile playing on his lips.
-
By now, Rory Linden had arrived at her rented apartment in Sherry Walsh’s car.
She had no idea that Sean Harrison already knew Leo Linden was his son.
After setting down her luggage, Rory Linden said, "I need to go to a domestic help agency later. I have to hire a nanny to pick Leo up and drop him off."
"What?!" Sherry Walsh was stunned. "Why didn’t you mention this to me before?"
"Finding the apartment was already so much trouble for you. I didn’t want to bother you with this, too."
Rory and Sherry were close, but she didn’t want to trouble her friend with every little thing.
There were many urgent things to take care of after returning to Celestria on such short notice, and she planned to spend the next few days handling them one by one.
"Oh my god, don’t you know? A good nanny is like a good man—the best ones are never on the market. Most of the people looking for work are the ones other families have already gotten rid of."
Sherry Walsh was getting genuinely angry. "It would be one thing if they were just bad at their job, but what if you hire a kidnapper?"
"..."
"Our Leo is so smart and handsome! If a kidnapper got their hands on him, they could probably sell him for hundreds of thousands!"
Sherry Walsh couldn’t believe Rory Linden could be so careless.
Rory really hadn’t thought it through that much. "But I’ve already made an appointment. We should at least go and see."
"Oh, don’t bother going. How can you let a complete stranger look after Leo?" Sherry offered. "How about this? There’s a young intern at my law firm who’s really sweet. She’s the daughter of a friend of my dad’s. I can lend her to you to be a nanny."
"Your intern? Isn’t she a lawyer?"
Rory Linden didn’t quite understand.
"Oh, I don’t need that many interns, and she’s not really cut out to be a lawyer anyway. But she’s a great person. She’d be perfect for picking Leo up and dropping him off, and maybe helping with his homework."
Sherry Walsh glanced at the time. "She should be at the firm right now. Come on, I’ll take you to her."
"I still think..."
"Leo is my godson! I don’t even know if I’ll ever get married. If I end up single and childless, I’m going to need him to have my back in the nursing home!"
Sherry Walsh grabbed Rory Linden and started pulling her out the door.
Rory had no choice but to grab Leo Linden’s hand and follow.
Just as the three of them got back into the car, Sherry Walsh’s phone rang.
She glanced at the screen, and her expression immediately turned wary.
"Oh no, I’m screwed. Why is Noah Sterling calling? Don’t tell me he and Sean Harrison have figured something out?"
Sherry Walsh looked conflicted.
It was as if she were holding not a phone, but a ticking time bomb.
Afraid she was holding Sherry back from something important, Rory urged her, "Just answer it. It can’t be about Leo. Sean Harrison didn’t see me earlier."
Believing her, Sherry Walsh finally pressed the answer button.
"Where are you?" Noah Sterling’s voice came through the phone, tinged with a hint of exasperation. "I need to talk to you about something. I have to see you now."
