Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along-Chapter 214: "Have You Two... Made Up?
Sean Harrison stood in the light of the setting sun. When he saw Rory Linden walking over, a gentle look unconsciously softened his features.
"Sorry, something came up. I’m a little late."
Rory Linden was about ten minutes late, so she apologized to him.
Sean Harrison didn’t mind.
He knew full well that he actually enjoyed the process of waiting for her.
He would even intentionally arrive a bit early.
Standing here, waiting for her, knowing she would definitely come—this was the best, most reassuring time for him.
It created the illusion that nothing had changed, that everything was just like it used to be.
Rory Linden was never good at hiding things.
The moment she got into his car, she asked, "President Harrison, may I ask you a question?" 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"Go ahead."
Sean Harrison paused his hand, which had been about to release the parking brake.
Rory Linden looked at him and gave him a preemptive warning, "You don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to. It’s completely fine."
Only after he nodded did she continue, "This person, Evan Hollis... what’s your assessment of him?"
"Why are you suddenly asking about him?"
Sean Harrison was a little surprised.
A few years ago, he and Henry Lancaster had suspected Evan Hollis was connected to the incident where he was injured, and they had investigated him for some time.
In the end, they found no concrete evidence, so they stopped wasting their time on it.
Even so, he still felt that Evan Hollis was hiding some kind of secret.
Rory Linden cautiously recounted the events of the day.
Then she explained, "Auntie Rhodes’s condition seems off, but Evan Hollis said he personally checked her medication and that there was nothing wrong with it..."
"Is it possible Evan Hollis switched the medication?"
Sean Harrison cut straight to the heart of the matter.
Rory Linden hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Actually, the thought did cross my mind, it’s just..."
She trailed off, leaving her sentence unfinished.
Sean Harrison glanced sideways at her, waiting for her to continue.
Rory Linden was still hesitant.
Sean Harrison then said, "It’s fine. I already know that Evan Hollis moved in. The housekeeper has been reporting their situation at home to me, so you don’t need to be so guarded."
Only then did Rory Linden feel that there was truly no need for her to hide anything.
She told him the truth. "I heard that Auntie Rhodes and Evan Hollis have a very good relationship. He would have absolutely no reason to do something like this."
Sean Harrison started the car.
The car slowly pulled out of the hospital parking lot, only to quickly get stuck in traffic on the road.
Staring at the road ahead, Sean Harrison said, "I’ve never thought of Evan Hollis as a good person, but I’m too busy to waste my time going after him."
Rory Linden stared out the window in silence.
She and Evan Hollis had been colleagues for a few months, and she didn’t think he was a bad person.
Especially during those few months when they were providing medical aid in the countryside; he had really helped her a lot.
It was just...
What happened today was just too strange.
The heart stent she had placed for Charlotte Rhodes five years ago was for a minor procedure.
’Her body has changed so much in five years, and that could be explained by everything she’s been through. But I just operated on her a few months ago. For her to become this frail after the recovery period... that’s definitely not normal.’
The car was silent.
Sean Harrison broke the silence, mentioning the restaurant he had booked in advance. "You can look up their menu on a review site and see if you like it. We can go somewhere else if you don’t."
Rory Linden said, "No need. You can decide."
To her, this weekly meal was just a routine matter.
What they ate or how long it took didn’t matter.
All that mattered was that the foundation would eventually be established successfully so more children could get help.
The truth was, Rory Linden didn’t want to have dinner with Sean Harrison.
It wasn’t that she disliked him.
She just hoped they could both move on more quickly.
Instead of being entangled with each other like this.
The car was following the route, about one intersection away from the restaurant, when...
Sean Harrison’s phone rang.
He glanced at the screen and handed the phone to Rory Linden. "It’s the housekeeper at my mom’s place. Can you get that for me?"
"Auntie Rhodes’s house?"
Rory Linden hesitated for a moment but answered it anyway.
She put the call on speakerphone.
The other end of the line was silent. After a long moment, the housekeeper’s voice came through. "Mr. Harrison, are you there?"
The housekeeper was clearly keeping her voice down, as if she were hiding from someone.
Before Sean Harrison could speak...
"What are you doing! Who are you calling?"
Evan Hollis’s voice suddenly burst from the phone.
It was completely different from his usual gentle demeanor—harsh and laced with malice.
If she hadn’t known he was at Charlotte Rhodes’s house, Rory Linden would never have guessed that was Evan Hollis on the phone.
When she looked again, the call had been disconnected.
Rory Linden was immediately on alert. She was about to suggest they go check on Auntie Rhodes.
But before she could say a word, Sean Harrison had already turned the car around and was heading in another direction.
It was still rush hour, so traffic was heavy. After driving for nearly an hour, the car arrived at the entrance of a villa community in the eastern part of the city.
After giving his details to the security guard, he drove directly into the complex, looped around, and parked on the street behind one of the villas.
Worried about Charlotte Rhodes’s condition, Rory Linden ran toward the villa first.
She knocked on the door.
A few seconds later, the main door opened.
A woman in her fifties stood inside, presumably the housekeeper.
The housekeeper froze for a second when she saw Rory Linden. "You are..."
"She’s a doctor."
Sean Harrison, who had caught up, answered for her.
Rory Linden didn’t have time for pleasantries and asked directly, "Where is Auntie Rhodes?"
The housekeeper stepped aside to let them in and pointed to the stairs. "In her bedroom on the second floor."
Rory Linden had just stepped into the villa when Evan Hollis came down from upstairs. "Dr. Linden? What are you doing here?"
His tone had returned to its usual gentleness.
Rory Linden didn’t give the housekeeper away, instead telling a white lie. "I just got off work, and I was still worried thinking about Auntie Rhodes’s condition, so I wanted to come and check on her."
She looked at Evan Hollis, affecting a friendly attitude. "Dr. Hollis, where is Auntie Rhodes? Could you take me to see her?"
Evan Hollis looked at Rory Linden, then at Sean Harrison behind her.
He didn’t answer her question right away. Instead, he asked, "Are you two... back together?"
