The healer’s words made jaw dropping around everyone because they never heard anything like her pregnancy before. Even Elizabeth was astonished as she was very close Ayra this days. She never mentioned once anything to her.
Why?Was it because she, herself didn’t know about it?
Elizabeth wondered inside her thoughts. Alexander’s face turned paler as he shut his eyes tightly, feeling the pain of his sister. Snapping open them, he pleaded to the healer who was standing ahead of them,
" Is there no way to save the baby? My sister will be heartbroken if she wakes up and learns about her miscarriage."
The healer let out a helpless sigh before shaking her head negatively. The damage was already undone. From her own judgement, she had found out that Ayra started having symptoms of miscarriage for a few good hours. Perhaps, she didn’t take it in her countance seriously.
The healer spoke fast, keeping her words polite to the prince,
" I am sorry, Your Highness but this is the least I can do. Lady has already lost the baby. We will just have to stop her bleeding."
Her words brought a dead silence on the corridor. After a long painful pause, Alexander clenched his fist hard, blurted letting out a long sigh,
" Do whatever to save my sister."
The healer nodded and returned inside the room to do her rest of works. After she left, Alexander faced the bunch of maids who took care of Ayra’s needs so far. Standing in front of the head maid, Alexander growled narrowing his eyes dangerously,
" How did she miscarry? Tell me! Did she fall or any one of you saw her falling?"
The maids were also scared since the history of miscarriage by maids had a dark past. People used to use maids to remove the possibility of having heir many times. It was no wonder that the blame of arrow would be directed to them first.
" Answer me!", Alexander shouted, startling everyone including Elizabeth whose tears didn’t stop until now. She felt sorry for Ayra as it was her very first child.
The head of maids assured, bowing longingly in front of the angry Prince,
" We don’t know, Your Highness! We didn’t see anything."
Alexander sneered angrily, knowing very well that how dirty their thoughts could be,
" You better pray that none of you is involved in this incident because I will pull out each one of your heads if she tells that it has anything to do with you."
Moments afterwards inside, Ayra regained her consciousness after her pain was reduced very much than before. Opening her eyes, she was welcomed with an unfamiliar face, the healer’s and a strong scent of medicine.
" My lady, you are awake?", The healer helped her to get up and set a pillow behind her back to lean comfortably. Ayra’s face puzzled in confusion and looking down her clothes, she found out that it was changed into a new pair of clothes, fresh and clean.
Ayra mumbled, feeling sore from her waist,
" What.. what happened to me?"
The healer was hesitant to speak out the truth. She had just woken up and this news of her miscarriage could lead her to panic. Swiftly, she tried to resonate by giving her a glass of warm water,
" Nothing! Your period just came in wrong time. Here, have some water."
Accepting the glass from healer, Ayra gave the woman a strange look because her period never came on unexpected time. She was healthy from her early days of teen. Just when she attempted to pull away her eyes, a blood stained cloth caught her attention. She was freaked out to see so much blood on her clothes which didn’t seem like period. Ayra dropped the glass on the table without drinking anymore.
Staring hard at the healer, she questioned in a stern voice,
" What happened to me? Tell me the truth!"
The healer became a little uneasy, facing her direct eyes. Ayra seemed persistent to know the truth. The healer opened and closed her mouth before letting out a long sigh. Returning a small nervous smile, she suggested softly,
" My lady...Why..why don’t you sleep first? We can discuss it later.."
Ayra shook her head instantly and wasn’t ready to believe her words. She clutched the healer’s wrist to question anxiously,
" No, you must tell me now. What happened to me?"
Having no choice to left, the healer muttered something under her breath before telling nervously,
" My lady...you..you.. just miscarried today.."
Ayra froze at her position immediately, her grip loosening from the healer’s wrist. Her mind went blank and the word ’miscarriage’ reverberated in her ears for a long time. In her silence, few teardrops slipped down from her eyes without pausing anywhere.
Pregnant? She was actually pregnant?
It was an incredible emotions that she felt in her heart for the first time. There was a baby in her stomach actually. Those feelings were surreal and she didn’t know how to express them in words. After a long painful moment, Ayra begun to mutter letting her tears, rolling down relentlessly, 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
" I.. this isn’t.. true..How did I miscarry? My baby.. it’s impossible..How did I miscarry, healer? I didn’t fall..I was careful.."
The healer grew scared to see her blabbering. Ayra kept mumbling to herself like a maniac and didn’t seem okay. Sighing out helplessly, the healer got up from her stool to go outside and call others inside the room in case the lady felt better in their presence. Loosing child wasn’t an easy thing to accept especially when it was her first child.
Ayra who came back to her rational state noticed the cup from the morning. Curling her fists, she called the healer in a cold voice,
" Wait, don’t go now!"
The healer turned around with a frown and looked up at Ayra questioning. Ayra sucked a sharp breath before murmuring painfully,
" I want you to examine someone else for me, healer."
