CHAPTER 320
As daring as that statement was, Zain knew better than to tamper with that gun and kill Jade, else his life won’t be spared either.
Whether or not she shot at him, wasn’t entirely the problem but the fact that he could rid this world of the Frost blood for good and have his son living and kicking, then that was his cup of tea.
“Zain,” he heard a sharp growl ring out from behind him, pulling him back to reality as a snarl followed.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Easy there now, dragon boy or I’ll shoot,” Zain cautioned.
“Don’t you dare!” Several voices all rallied on the second he scolded Xander as their killing intent shone through their eyes.
“Oh wow, you have got yourself quite the knight, haven’t you, Jade?”
For the most part of things, he knew even before that bullet made its mark, that his life might have been long gone, yet Zain ignored all the danger signs and took steps closer to Jade.
.....
With each step he too, Jade made hers, turning a bit till she had a good angle to the father and son due.
“I said don’t move,” Zain scolded.
A low scoff fell off Jade’s lips at the very moment.
“Do not move? I think between you and me, those words are more suited for you than anyone else.”
She had her confidence building in. She had held a gun on several occasions.
Although she had not yet been tainted by human blood on her hands, she had her fair share of shooting and not missing her target.
Just to prove her point, she pushed her hand forward, ready to shoot Zane.
“You should know me better, don’t you think, Jade?” Zane’s voice asked disinterestedly.
The pleasant smile adorning his lips did not go unnoticed by Jade who remained unfazed by what or who he was and his schemes.
“Why should I bother when I have father and son here, ready for the taking?” She countered, playing by his game.
“You know killing her would be an easy feat, right?” Zane pushed again.
“Hmm, so? Does that make you far from harm or death’s door?” Jade taunted as well.
“Say answer this, between you, she and I, who do you think is going to visit death’s door, first?”
“You,” Jade stated rather boldly.
“Hahhaa, shall I remind you of the look on your father’s face, when my bullet went through his brain?”
She blinked. She had least expected that to be the case here but it was. He wanted to reopen nursing wounds.
Her mind was still as was her breathing while her thoughts spiralled.
She blinked, trying to clear her mind of those painful thoughts but just having to watch Zane face to face, Jade couldn’t.
She wasn’t there when it happened, so she knew nothing of her parents’ last moment but all that there is.
“I was there. I recall every bloody detail,” Zane hinted once more.
“Shut it,” she gritted her teeth as cold sweat broke out the side of her forehead.
‘Damn it, she is falling for his schemes.’ Xander took note, hearing her heartbeat thud loudly.
‘Jade isn’t focused anymore. Not with hearing those words. Damn it. I better do something soon or I would lose the woman I love, forever.’ Xander reminded himself in his mind.
“Or the look of shock greeting your mother’s face when her husband was shot dead and how I gave her that fleeting minute before she followed suit.”
He paused to let out a bitter wicked laugh before his face turned serious again.
“Every bloody sight was one I would relish and remain bathed in.”
Jade bit her tongue, holding herself from making one rash decision while she kept on with their staring contest.
“Too bad the useless daughter of the Frost mafia gang wasn’t there to witness her parent’s last moment.”
She breathed out slowly, chanting in her head, fighting to keep the thoughts and the shooting out of her mind.
“It would have been the sight. Who knows, I may have killed you first for them to witness before crossing to the other world.”
Indeed, he knew where to touch her as that had always been, her greatest regret that she was not there on that day.
Perhaps she would have died with them or she would have protected her mother before the shooting went wild but what...
Her eyes shut close briefly as the sound of a gunshot replayed in her head.
BANG!
“Jade, do not listen to him. Jade, he is only messing with your head,” Asia chanted to her, ignoring the sinister glares she was getting from his men and his father.
“Say what you want to her. It doesn’t deprive her of the knowledge of the truth,” Zane cut Asia off.
“It doesn’t yes. And the fact that you killed them is making the state you are in, much worse,” Jade reminded him.
“Ah, yes.” He spread his hand to his side. “How could I possibly forget that a child wields a weapon before me? It is an insult to my personality.”
All the while, Xander watched closely, looking for an opportunity.
One more slip and he would use it to get all three ladies out of the way while his dragons made a swell feast of the humans.
That was his plan until he heard loud and clear.
“And the fact that your dragon mate gave out the order for their total annihilation. Now that is a thriller.”
That was all Jade needed to fall off her radar. To fall off her precision and to fall off her target.
“Bingo,” Zane noted calmly.
“Did I strike a nerve? I am sorry,” he feigned being socked and sad before his petty face turned extremely sarcastic.
“But who cares. Killing him next would be my triumph right after I make him wash as I mop the floor with your dead body.”
Both Jade and Xander lost it at this point.
They were both overcome with rage to the point neither of them was thinking straight.
“Xander, snap out of it,” Aramis scolded quickly through their mind link. “Snap out of it now. He has you two where he wants you.” f𝙧ee𝔀𝑒𝚋𝐧૦ѵ𝑒Ɩ. 𝑐𝘰𝒎
“Aramis is right, Lord Xander. Help Jade break from her rage and pain. He is using it to manipulate her focus,” Minerva chipped in.
“Help her, before you lose her. Pull her out of that rage,” Sky chipped in too. “She needs you.”
“I know damn it. She... Jade is blocking me out of her mind.”
“But why?” Astoria asked in shock.
Her gaze burned all around as she tried to make sense of what Jade was thinking.
“I would break through to her. Do not worry.”
He reached so hard for the chord in his mind connecting their minds together and felt it faint.
Without wasting time, Xander tried thinking of their memories. The sweet times they had together and the times they cried.
He needed to open a link else he lost her to her pain and rage. Once he had successfully guided her through and tried to pull her away.
“Jade. Jade, my love.”
He got no answer.
“Jade, please. Love answer me. It is I. I know you are hurt but please. You are not alone. I am here, now and always, please. I love you.”
