Chapter 239: Reunion and mysterious

It lasted for more than three seconds, which suggested that this boy was not merely an acquaintance or a friend, but someone much closer. He could have been anyone, a cousin, an old childhood friend.

And since Emma had returned the hug, it was clear she was genuinely happy to see him too.

Knowing all that, William still barely managed to stop himself from blasting the boy away and embedding him into the tower wall.

The blue-haired young bastard finally let go of Emma, but that hand placement... it was still on her shoulder. Tch.

"I really can’t tell you how much I’ve been wanting to see you. After you joined the academy, this might be the first time we’re meeting."

Emma nodded with a smile. "Yes, you’re right. Whenever I came back, you were always wandering around the world with your father."

The other person grumbled, "I can’t even remember how many times I told my old man to bring me to your academy so I could meet you there."

"Well," Emma said, "call it a coincidence that we met here, since I didn’t plan on returning home today."

And now, William was regretting ever mentioning this trip.

The boy grinned from ear to ear. "Luck’s on my side then. Come, let’s go inside—"

"Wait. Let me introduce you two first." Emma turned toward William, stepping away from the other person. Finally, she leaned against him and said, "Sherry, meet William. He is my fiancée."

"And Will," she added with a smile, "She is Sherry, my childhood friend."

William blinked in surprise and looked at the boy(?). "She?"

Emma chuckled. "I guess you were deceived by her dressing sense and hair too." Shaking her head, she continued, "Sherry is a girl, despite how she appears." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

William found himself smiling as he offered his hand to her. "Nice to meet you. My name is Delimore William."

Sherry narrowed her eyes, her expression clearly wary. "I don’t accept you as her fiancée."

"Haha, that doesn’t matter," William replied casually.

Sherry’s eyes widened at the sheer shamelessness.

She glanced at Emma, then grabbed her hand. "Come on, let’s go inside."

Emma sighed and took William’s hand as well. The three of them were connected like a chain as they headed inside.

As the doors parted and they entered the reception area, William and Emma’s eyes lit up at the sight of the small child sitting beside the Tower Master.

Their arrival caught everyone’s attention, but Nana did not turn to look at them. She was busy playing with the small penguin-shaped toy in her hand.

Both Emma and William walked straight toward the little girl, ignoring everyone else.

William reached her first, lifting her up as she yelped in surprise at being suddenly picked up.

But the moment she looked at the two of them, her eyes widened.

The toy slipped from her hands as she stared back and forth between them, stunned and excited.

"Haha, don’t move around so much. You’ll hurt yourself," Emma said, taking Nana from him.

William mentally sent a few words. ’How are you, Nana?’

[Big brother... big sister... Nana... umm...]

Overwhelmed by happiness, her eyes turned moist.

William shared a glance with Emma, a helpless smile on both their faces.

On the side, Sherry stood beside her father, both of them watching with warm eyes. Vitori rose to his feet and said, "No matter how many toys or gifts I bring her, nothing compares to the happiness she feels when she sees you two."

Emma smiled and hugged the little girl, soothing her with her presence.

Meanwhile, William turned to greet his father-in-law.

The two men shook hands, and the older man wore an easy smile, genuine warmth visible in his eyes.

It was something William had noticed recently, Vitori’s acceptance.

Vitori then turned toward the man seated across from him and introduced him. "William, this is my working partner, my advisor, and my friend, Jeromy Reever."

The man slowly rose from his seat.

He had short, dark blue hair and a pair of golden eyes. Lean, with broad shoulders, he carried himself with a poised demeanor.

He struck William as someone who would remain calm no matter how much aggression the other party displayed, though that was only an assumption.

As the two men shook hands, Vitori added, "And this is Delimore William, my son-in-law."

Emma glanced slightly over her shoulder. Hearing her father call him ’son-in-law’ filled her heart with quiet happiness.

William and Jeromy shook hands, and the older man said, "I have heard your name several times recently, William. You are someone I have been meaning to meet for quite some time."

When they released each other’s hands, William asked, "May I know the reason?"

Vitori then spoke, "He is a researcher by profession, someone who has recently developed an interest in unconventional sorcerers, much like you."

William nodded in understanding.

Jeromy continued, "I have been analyzing the rare kinds of magicians this society has been gifted with. From Gahalia, you are one of the few mages who seem to have reached your full potential, and at such a young age no less."

William lowered his head slightly. "If you are truly researching unconventional sorcerers, then you should know there is no limit to our potential."

Jeromy chuckled. "You are right about that."

Just then, Sherry scoffed. "You sound so full of yourself. I bet you’re the type who doesn’t participate in battles because you think everyone else is weaker than you."

Emma sighed. "Now, now. Don’t be so harsh with your words. He’s your brother-in-law. Talk to him with some respect, Sherry."

Sherry clicked her tongue. "How could you suddenly get into a relationship with someone when you always said you weren’t interested in any of this?"

Emma shrugged, handing Nana to William as she said, "Well, I never said I am reluctant to fall for someone."

Sherry grumbled and glanced at William, her gaze questioning, ’But why him?’

William ignored her and told Emma, "I will go to her room. Nana wants to show me something."

Emma nodded and said, "I will join you soon."

Once William walked away, Emma finally turned towards Jeromy, "Uncle, It’s been a long time." They exchanged a brief hug.

The man laughed and said, "You have grown so much that I could barely recognize you."

Emma shook her head smilingly, "You just wanted to say that, didn’t you."

Jeromy just grinned and then said, "How come you are here when you should have been on Great Hall’s compound, getting trained?"

Vitori nodded, "Yes, I remember you and William were selected as candidates to be trained under their special programme."

Emma sighed and informed them, "Well, we were assigned to handle things near the southern border. The Sinks were sealed last night and we had some time with us so we decided to come and meet Nana."

"Huh?" Cherry’s eyes widened, "You were near that place where multiple Sinks appeared?"

Emma nodded, "Yes."

Vitori frowned, "How did all vanish in just a single night?"

A single Sink takes about a few days to get sealed given the Ranked-devil appears quite later after its army has weakened the opposing forces

And here, they were involved with several Death Sinks.

Emma sighed and told them, "It was all thanks to William. He used something he received from the church to lure them out." Of course, she lied. Even her father couldn’t be trusted with the secret William had been hiding.

Jeromy hummed, "Something that church possess could bring out the devils? Now, that sounds interesting."

On the other hand, Vitori narrowed his eyes, he was unconvinced as well. Rather, a possibility arose in his mind. A strong factor to tempt those Devils and that was the blessed blood of Emma.

Emma, naturally, got a little nervous seeing the two men so unbelieving of her words.

To save herself from getting further questioned, she turned towards Cherry and asked, "How about we go and see your old room? It’s still kept as it was."

The girl smiled brightly and nodded, "Yes, let’s do that."

Soon, the two girls left, leaving the two older men behind.

"Vitori?" Jeromy asked, "What do you think?"

The Tower Master sighed and sat back down, "If she doesn’t intend on sharing the truth then I won’t force her. They must have a good reason to remain silent on this matter."

Jeromy looked unconvinced. Even about William, there was something that intrigued him.

Jeromy’s skill allows him to see magical energy like a tangible substance.

But when he looked at William, it felt like something was blocking his sight.

This has never happened before. Not with anyone.

And that’s what makes William quite mysterious in his eyes.

’Guess it was the right decision to visit the Tower.’ he smiled knowingly, looking at the gate from where he left earlier.
