Lunar Awakening-Chapter 52: George Lüdovic Kriston
The folder stared back at him innocently, producing a deep ache in his chest as he pondered on what secret was hidden behind it. He could not help but shudder at the thought that the key to understanding what was happening within his body was at the other end of that folder.
Kevin cleared his throat drawing Leo’s attention from the screen, "Mind telling what has you so serious, or should I leave?"
That was a very good question—
Did he want Kevin hearing something only he should hear? It was a tricky decision to make, he could not trust Kevin not to be a blabbermouth, but then again he felt he could trust him.
"Curses."
Kevin raised a questioning eyebrow, "Pardon?"
Leo glanced at him then back down at the laptop, he said nothing— simpling moving the cursor to the folder he double clicked on it.
The interface changed to reveal a white window screen with two video icons side by side. The first one read "The life of George Lüdovic Kriston", the second read "Moon God’s Battle Art".
He did not know how to feel about this, he could only tell that this was something he would have to absorb with all his soul.
He clicked on the first video and watched the screen go blank, for a second he thought the laptop and burnt out like the first but a second later it came back to life.
This time with a vivid picture on it.
It was the image of a man, perhaps the one who had bitten him.
He could see a man with pale skin, almost looking like he was sick. However his energetic dark eyes told a different story, he had long grey hair-- that shimmered with motes of sliver light. The man wore a thick fur coat over a leather jacket giving him a regal appearance, he had a thick neck pulsing with several veins and muscles. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Leo’s eyes also drifted to the background, he could tell that the man was in a strange dark room lit by several flaming torches. It almost looked like he was in a room from medieval times.
Leo did not have anytime to catch up on anything before the man spoke, "I am George Lüdovic Kriston, the current alpha and bearer of the legacy of the cursed dire wolf—"
There was a flash of recognition in the eyes of Leo, "It’s him." The voice was the same as the man who had bitten him, but with more vigour.
Kevin watched Leo carefully before turning and staring at the screen with very little interest.
"—if you are reading this then I am without a doubt dead. And you are now the new bearer of my legacy. There are some things you must know if you are to be my successor."
’Successor?’ Leo asked himself.
"To understand it all first you have to hear my story and how I became a noble alpha myself. It all started eighty years ago when I first ventured into Hellscape—"
Leo muttered under his breath, "He was also a superhuman?"
The man in the screen shifted and let out a heavy sigh before saying, "—by some ill luck I happened upon a rabid man who bit me, turning me into a werewolf—"
’Crap, he was also bitten? Serves him right.’ Though this made him a bit relieved, it however raised another question.
Who had bitten him!? And why?
"The man died not after a few weeks but not before teaching me about this legacy. The legacy of the dire wolf made me stronger and better than I ever was but it also came with some urges such as the insatiable need for human flesh and violent tendencies—"
"—However hard it was to adjust to these changes the most predominant one was fact that the penalty was to harbour the entity known as Xavax-- the demon of death and fury."
Leo felt his breath hitch in his chest.
"Unfortunately I wasn’t able to gather much information from the man who turned me before he passed away. But listen whoever you are, you have one year left to live unless you become an alpha and turn someone."
Leo banged his fist on the table causing it to crack, "What do you mean I have one year left to live?"
Kevin’s jaw dropped, "You’re a werewolf? That is fucking cool."
Leo ignored him as he listened to the man in the screen.
"I don’t know why or how but it is crucial that you be one an alpha and turn your first beta as soon as you can." George said. "Grow your pack before they come."
The air grew more grim as Leo watched the man’s face become overwritten by fear and worry.
"I should not have tampered with the natural order of things, whatever happens do not let them know that you live. I was foolish to think I was the only one like me-- but I ran into others. The noble bred wolf lords, whatever you do-- avoid them at all costs."
The video then reached it’s end.
Leo stared at the screen for several seconds his mind running through it all, George had been like him before he got bitten. He seemed to have run into a rival band of werewolf lords, why did he warn Leo against it. Weren’t all werewolves the same or was there some type of hierarchy he did not understand?
More importantly why did he have to become an alpha and turn others?
Why did he need a pack—
Could it be he was also hunted and needed protection. Even with that he would never do to another what had been done to him. It was all nerve-wracking to even think about how it all connected.
Leo had thought things would make sense if he found out more about the old man, instead it complicated things even further and brought upon a world of questions.
He still had no idea who Xavax was except for the fact that he was a demon of death and fury, what was a demon and why would such an entity be trapped within him?
Why did he only have one year left to live?
"Curses." He tightened his fist and bit his lower lip so hard it drew blood.
"You sure do say that a lot, but I think I see the appeal." Kevin slumped down into the seat beside him and drew in a deep breath. "This is a lot to process."
Leo glanced over at Kevin but said nothing. His eyes simply darkened slightly.
Kevin caught his gaze and waved his hands frantically, "Your secret is safe with me, I promise. But it is going to take a while to wrap my head around all-- this."
Leo was having it even harder.
Did he really have one year left to live, was that a price he had to pay for his newfound power?
If that was true then did that mean someone else had died after a year of recieving the bite?
Kevin reached out and pressed his hand on Leo’s shoulder, he locked eyes with him and spoke after a short while. "Dude, do you really have a year to live?"
Leo could sense the concern in his voice and it unsettled him, it was rare for someone to show him concern-- but even rarer for him to actually deserve it.
A part of him wanted to say it was a lie, another part of him doubted that. Why would George go through the problem of preparing the video and passing it on to him?
The more he thought about it, the more he wanted to know about George and his abilities.
