Chapter 250: Oracle

Jayden’s eyes widened. "Wait... seriously?"

"Yeah," she said softly.

Jayden chuckled. "So, you’re like an hybrid?"

Ava smiled faintly. "You could say that," she replied. "But my mum sealed my Lycan genes when I was five, so I can’t exactly transform like you do,"

Jayden winced. "Aw, that sucks," he smiled wryly.

"It does," Ava said simply, then her eyes hardened again. "Now.. back to my question. Who are you?"

Jayden sighed. "Are we really still doing this?"

"We are," Ava said firmly.

Jayden chuckled, leaning back slightly. "And if I told you, would you still call the Queen and have my head skewered?"

Ava crossed her arms. "No," she said quietly. "I won’t tell her. You have my word,"

Jayden tilted his head, pretending to contemplate. Of course he wasn’t going to tell her anything. He just wanted to buy some more time with Ava and see if he could learn more about Lycans from her.

"Why should I trust your word?" he muttered.

"Because," Ava said with a sigh, "I was bluffing, okay? I just want to know who you are and how you got here. The Queen’s too busy with the war to care about one rogue wolf anyway."

Jayden raised a brow. "War? What war?"

Ava looked at him like he’d said something insane. "Are you serious? You really don’t know that the Lycans are at war?" she scoffed. "Heck, you’ve been at war for almost a century,"

Jayden was stunned. He recently just discovered that he was a Lycan, and now they are supposed to be at war.

Ava blinked in surprise. "Wait, you’re serious... you didn’t know?" she murmured in disbelief. Her mind raced. "If he really didn’t know then that means I was wrong... he’s not one of them." she thought.

Jayden shook his head slowly. "I didn’t even know Lycans existed until a month ago," he admitted.

Ava’s eyes widened. "No way! So that means you just had your first transformation recently?" she asked.

Jayden nodded. "Yeah. And before then, I thought I was human,"

Ava was beyond shocked. "Bloody hell. You’ve been living among humans this whole time. No wonder you’re so clueless about... everything."

Jayden smiled wryly. "Yeah, I guess. So, are we good now? Do you still I’m a threat?" he chuckled.

Ava frowned. "Yes," she said. "How can I be sure that all you’re saying isn’t more lies?"

Jayden shrugged. "You can’t. It’s either you believe me... or you don’t." he said.

"Fine," Ava grumbled. "But at least tell me how you arrived on earth."

Jayden chuckled. "I’ve always been on earth. I was born here," he said.

Ava furrowed her brows. "That’s impossible. No Lycan have ever been born on earth. In fact, no Lycans have lived here in decades," she stated, then frowned. "You’re lying to me again."

Jayden chuckled. "I’m not lying. I just..." he hesitated, letting out a sigh. "I didn’t use to live among humans. I didn’t exactly grow up in a place that was visible to the world."

Ava raised a brow. "So where did you live?"

Jayden exhaled. "I lived on an oneiri island." he admitted.

Ava’s eyes widened instantly. "What?! But that means..."

"Yes," Jayden said. "I grew up with beastmen."

Ava’s eyes widened further, breath catching. Her mind whirled. "No... it can’t be. Could it?" She thought. "Could it really be him?"

She stepped closer, her voice trembling. "You don’t happen to be a twin, do you?"

Jayden blinked. "I am. Why?"

Ava gasped softly. "Oh my God... it’s really you," she chuckled. "You’re Jayden,"

Jayden frowned immediately. "What are you talking about? My name’s Jay, not Jayden," he denied.

Ava burst into laughter, amused. "Hahaha! Shut up, Jayden. Don’t play dumb with me," she said, her tone filled with a sudden familiarity. "Your mum’s name is Cyllene. Cyllene Lunaria, the Lycan princess." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

Jayden froze. His heart nearly skipped a beat. His mind was racing in alarm. Why did Ava know his mother’s name. And more importantly... did she just say his mother was the Lycan princess?

His lips parted. "How... how did you know my mum’s name?"

Ava smiled warmly. "Because she was my friend. I knew you when you were little. You and Jasmine," she muttered in excitement. "I still can’t believe it’s really you. You’ve grown so much."

Jayden was stunned by her words, but his mind lingered on one thing. "I’m sorry... how old are you again?" he asked.

Ava chuckled. "You won’t believe me if I told you," she winked.

Jayden stared blankly. "Can I ask you something?" he said, still reeling in shock.

He was already used to random people being familiar with his mother, it wasn’t a new thing anymore. But Ava was the only one who mentioned something that really intrigued him.

She smiled. "Sure, go ahead. Ask me whatever you want,"

Jayden exhaled. "Actually I have a lot of questions, but first... did you say my mother was the Lycan princess?" he asked.

Ava nodded. "Yeah," she replied softly. "Didn’t she tell you?"

Jayden shook his head. "No. She didn’t," he said. "In fact, she didn’t tell me we were Lycans. I had to find out the hard way... in a library."

Ava chuckled softly. "Well, she was a princess.. and a warrior. The greatest to ever live," her gaze softened. "Your mum was a legend, Jayden. A woman that was fierce, kind, and noble."

Jayden smiled faintly. "Yeah. She was," he whispered.

"I’m sorry about what happened to her," Ava said quietly. "I’m sorry I wasn’t there you. I know you must have heard this from a lot of people but I am truly sorry. If I’d been there that night, maybe..."

"No," Jayden cut in, his voice hard. "Don’t blame yourself. It was no one’s fault. No one but the EVA,"

Ava stared at him quietly. Then she smiled sadly. "You’re right." she said.

Jayden smiled slightly, changing the topic. "So tell me more about my mum and how you both knew each other. And also... if she was the princess, then that makes the Lycan Queen..."

"Your grandmother," Ava finished with a small laugh.

Jayden blinked. "Wow, I can’t believe I actually have a grandma," he chuckled.

"Yeah," Ava said with a teasing grin. "Guess you were telling the truth all along. I owe you an apology."

Jayden shrugged, smiling. "It’s fine. You can make it up to me by answering the dozens questions I have,"

"No problem," Ava laughed softly, then leaned forward. "But tell me... how’d you know the Lunarias were actually Lycans if you didn’t grow up with them? Because I’m sure they’re quite popular as humans."

Jayden opened his mouth to speak, but Ava wasn’t finished.

"Unless... you’ve met with one of them, haven’t you ?" she said.

Jayden nodded. "Yes, I have,"

Ava smirked. "Let me guess...Katherine?"

Jayden’s eyes widened. "How did you..."

"She’s the only one who lived on Earth for the past decade," Ava said. "But she was also the one who told me there were no Lycans here."

Jayden smirked faintly. "Maybe she was just trying to protect me."

"Maybe," Ava said softly, then sat back down, crossing her legs on the snow again. Her voice grew gentler, etched with relief. "You’ve grown so much, Jayden. Last time I saw you, you could barely pronounce my name."

Jayden chuckled. "Sounds like we were buddies,"

Ava smiled. "Actually, we were," she giggled. "Anytime I visited your mum at the island, I would play with you and Jasmine all day."

Jayden tilted his head. "Then why don’t I remember you? Was my memory erased or something?" he joked.

Ava chuckled. "No, you were still little when I used to visit. Maybe two or three," she said. "I remember I would fly you and Jasmine around the island and Jasmine would scream. Fufu, she had the cutest little scream."

Jayden smiled faintly. "Yeah... she did."

Ava saw the grief flicker across his eyes. She raised a brow. "Where is she, anyway? Does she live with you?" she asked gently.

Jayden’s voice lowered. "No, um...she was taken that night. I haven’t seen her since," he said.

Ava’s heart sank. "Oh, Jayden... I’m so sorry. I didn’t know," she said. "I was only told about your mother’s demise. In fact, I thought you and Jasmine had been taken to Lunaria,"

Jayden spoke softly. "No, we were separated that night. The EVA took her, and they’ve had her this whole time. They probably still do," he muttered softly.

Ava eyes widened. "And you’ve been trying to find her," she pointed out, realization dawning. "That’s why you’re so interested in Castor. Because he’s connected to the EVA."

Jayden’s jaw tensed. "Actually I just want to know why he didn’t save her. Why he didn’t... save us."

Ava sighed. "I see. You’ve heard about his all-seeing... gift,"

Jayden nodded. "Yeah. And I still don’t get it. If he could see the future, why didn’t he stop it? He could have at least given us an heads-up," he clenched his fist.

Ava shook her head gently. "No, Jayden, it’s not what you think," she said. "Castor isn’t some all-seeing prophet. He doesn’t see the exact future. Only possibilities of it."

Jayden blinked. "Possibilities? Like different outcomes?"

Ava nodded. "Yes," she said softly. "Castor’s an oracle."
