Chapter 121: Chapter 121

"I cannot be dismissed!" Cindy yelled. "I refuse to be dismissed. My sister is the owner of this company, so I can stay here whenever I want!"

"That’s not how it works," Iris sighed. She didn’t understand how Winter could cultivate such an overbearing and egoistical sister, but now Iris had to deal with her as well. "Pack your things now and leave, I can always call security if you don’t want to."

Cindy glared at Iris to no avail, then she turned her head towards the CEO’s office door and pulled her hand from Iris before rushing to the CEO’s office.

"H-hey! You!"

Cindy slammed the door open and saw Sebastian kneeling in front of Winter, while Winter stood arrogantly while crossing her arms.

The image of a cold and domineering CEO in Cindy’s mind was shattered instantly when she saw this, she stared at them in disbelief, and they stared back at her with hostility, especially Sebastian whose softened gaze quickly turned sharp when he saw Cindy.

"What are you doing here?" Sebastian asked crudely, but he was still on his knees. "Get out."

"S-Sebastian, w-what are you doing kneeling to her? She is a worthless bitch! She does nothing but marry a rich man and inherit his money!" Cindy yelled as the mental image of the man she worshiped shattered in front of her. To make it even worse, Sebastian was kneeling in front of Winter, who obviously had a lower status than him! "You are a CEO! You’re supposed to be dominating!"

"GET OUT!" Sebastian’s thunderous voice quickly destroyed Cindy’s confidence. She looked at him with fear and then looked at Winter who kept giving her a nonchalant gaze, as if they were just strangers, not sisters.

"You heard him. Get out," Winter said calmly, but it carried so much weight that Cindy felt it was an absolute order.

Cindy clenched her fists, tears already streaming down her cheeks as she said, "Just wait and see, you bitch! You are not my sister anymore!"

Winter was too tired to even care for Cindy. She already gave Cindy a good life. Cindy got a monthly allowance and also graduated from a university with Winter paying for everything. On top of that, she tolerated Cindy’s disrespect because she was the one living with their mother, and also she wanted to use her to test Sebastian’s loyalty.

But now that Winter had no more use for her, she should be able to safely dispose of her.

"I paid for your university, gave you a monthly allowance, gave you a home to stay, and still gave you a chance to work here," Winter said. "I gave you everything, and I don’t think I owe you anything. So yes, I don’t mind not being your sister. Leave."

Cindy began sobbing as she turned around and left immediately.

She grabbed her bag and ignored Iris as she entered the elevator to leave.

’You will pay for this, Winter Saenz!’

Iris sighed seeing Cindy making a ruckus before leaving. But she had to admit that she also got surprised when the CEO was kneeling in front of Winter.

Nevertheless, she knew that a married life needed some spice in it, so maybe this was just one of their bed plays.

Thus, Iris smiled awkwardly and closed the door for them.

Sebastian and Winter returned their gaze to each other, and Winter was the first one to say, "So, you’re telling me that you don’t like her?"

"I never liked that woman!" Sebastian exclaimed desperately.

He was kneeling because Winter said that she knew about him cheating on her with Cindy in their previous lives.

He realized that the misunderstanding between them ran so deep because Winter didn’t know his perspective.

And now he needed to fix everything, including clearing up all the misunderstandings if he wanted to have a shot at getting Winter’s pardon.

"Indeed, she worked as my secretary after Iris resigned, and she was objectively competent," Sebastian said. "But there’s no more between us. You got that photo of us because she drugged me!"

Winter found it funny that Sebastian was throwing the blame at Cindy when he also took part in the whole situation.

"And do you think you’re completely blameless? If you know that she has been trying to seduce you, why would you keep her around? What’s so hard about firing her immediately?"

"That’s..." Sebastian gritted his teeth as he felt complicated. He was ashamed to admit that he was being steered by his mother. He was a momma’s boy who was too scared to fight his overbearing mother.

But if he never said it, then he would never obtain Winter’s pardon.

Sebastian clenched his fists as he was trying to swallow his pride, and said, "M-my mother doesn’t allow me to fire her. I am stuck with her, and I simply tried to make use of her capability as a secretary."

...

"In fact, my mother controlled everything in our previous lives. I can’t do anything that’s not within her control," Sebastian added. "She’s also the reason why I tried closing my eyes and ignored your pleas. No matter how hard I try, I will eventually bow down to her words."

Winter stared down at Sebastian who was looking at her with a pleading gaze.

Her gut feeling told her that Sebastian was not lying, but that also made it even sadder, knowing that they could have everything in their previous lives, but Sebastian decided not to fight for her.

She wasn’t as stimulated as last night, so she could at least swallow all the bitter truths that Sebastian spouted now.

"And why did you never fight back? Don’t you realize the pain I had to endure just because you’re a Momma’s boy?" Winter sneered. "You keep saying that you love me, and you want to dedicate yourself to me, but look at this."

"I..." Sebastian was silenced again. If he had to be honest for the second time, he had to admit that he had been abused since he was a child, and it made him scared of his mother, even though Camilla had no more authority against him once he got older.

He opened his mouth but closed it again as the last piece of his pride made him unable to admit it.

Winter didn’t expect him to struggle as much to give her an answer, and she began to wonder if there was something happening between Camilla and Sebastian.

’I just realized that I’ve never known their family dynamic. I just know that Sebastian obeys his mother, but to what extent?’ Winter pondered. ’I’ve never seen him struggle so much to say something. He could’ve just lied, but seeing this... I guess it’s really a hard topic to talk about.’

Winter’s heart might be cold to him right now, but she understood how much trauma could affect someone, and Sebastian was showing a sign of trauma.

Thus, she decided to end their conversation as she found no use in trying to force Sebastian to speak, "I don’t care about your experience with your mother. But if you want to prove to me that you’ve changed, she will be your first target."

Sebastian was relieved that Winter didn’t force him to admit everything. It was just too embarrassing and traumatizing for him, so if possible, he just wanted to bury his childhood memory and start anew with Winter.

"Get up, now. I’m here to check on your work, not to see you kneeling like this," Winter said. "You won’t get a plus point just because you kneeled."

’But it seems you softened a little when I did this...’ Sebastian thought before he stood up. "Then, I will show you everything I’ve been working on. I think with this pace, the company will stabilize in no time."

Sebastian didn’t hide anything from his wife, knowing that he needed to gain Winter’s trust. In fact, he didn’t even try to hide all the phone calls and texts he had with those he worked with in this project, making sure that Winter knew everything.

Winter was relieved, of course, because it seemed the progress would be a lot faster than what happened in their previous lives.

However, she was still worried about one factor: Camilla.

What would happen if Camilla decided to disrupt this project because she kicked out all of her moles?

Thus, she asked Sebastian, "Can I trust you with something?"

"You can trust me with anything!" Sebastian said.

Winter stared at the overly excited Sebastian, and said, "I don’t know when you will have enough evidence to expose your mother. But for this project, I want you to protect it from her grubby hands. Make sure she won’t be able to ruin it because we both know this is detrimental for the company’s future."

"I need to focus on this project first before I can expose her crimes, so I will make sure she can’t touch it," Sebastian assured. "You can rest well for the time being."

"Oh, I can’t rest, at least not yet," Winter scoffed. "I still have to deal with a little girl throwing a tantrum."
