Chapter 141: Chapter 141

A month had passed since, and life had returned to normal.

Sebastian was busy in the office because of the mega project with Lucien LeBlanc as it had entered a crucial moment.

Winter knew not to disturb Sebastian during his busy days, but she had an announcement to make, and Sebastian HAD to know about this as soon as possible.

Thus, she called Iris to find out what Sebastian was doing right now.

"Iris, where is Seb right now? Is he in his office?"

"Ah, uhm... no, he’s in the meeting room with Lucien LeBlanc. Thank god for your call, Winter. The atmosphere inside the meeting room is tense," Iris reported.

"Tense?" Winter frowned. "Is there something wrong with the project?"

"Not really, but it’s more of the tension between them. They are glaring at each other like enemies," Iris continued. "I don’t know if this project will go smoothly."

Winter knew that Lucien had feelings for her, but she didn’t, and she knew it would be a problem if they kept on fighting. Thus, she told Iris, "I’ll be there as soon as possible."

"Are you sure? I mean, I don’t think Mr. LeBlanc would be happy seeing you two looking so sweet together. He might explode!"

"Oh, he will explode, alright, because I have big news for Seb."

"Wait, what big news, I—"

Beep.

Winter ended the call and contacted Arthur to tell him that she had to go to the office as soon as possible.

Arthur drove faster than usual but was still stuck in traffic jams here and there. He checked on his Madam from the rearview mirror, and couldn’t help but ask, "Madam, is there something wrong in the office? Why do we need to rush?"

"Mm, I just don’t want to miss Lucien LeBlanc. I need to make sure that the cooperation goes smoothly since he hates Seb’s guts."

’I hate his guts too,’ Arthur said to himself. He had been thinking about his Madam and that bastard’s relationship, and even though it seemed that their relationship had warmed up once more, he still felt that Sebastian was not the right man for Winter.

"Tell me what you have in mind, Arthur. You are my closest confidant, and I don’t want us to hide anything from each other," Winter said.

"I... I don’t think he deserves you, Madam," Arthur replied truthfully. "I also don’t think that you’re actually in love with him. You seem to let him stick around because of pity."

...

"What you said is correct," Winter responded. "I don’t love him, at least not yet. It would take me a long time to finally let go of this feeling I have for Aiden, and the space in my heart is too small for someone else to fit in."

"Then why do you let him stay, Madam? Is it because you pity him? He is a grown adult, not an orphaned kid," Arthur insisted. "I don’t want you to be trapped in a loveless marriage."

"Who said it’s loveless?" Winter sighed. "No, I don’t love him like I love Aiden. It’s hard to let go of that first love. But I still like him, and I’m sure I’ll like the little version of him as well."

"M-Madam, you—" fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"Yes, keep it a secret, alright?" Winter smiled.

Arthur clenched the steering wheel. He could not accept the fact that his Madam had accepted that bastard’s seed.

"Madam, if you don’t love him, why do you have to... you know... accept that," Arthur asked. "This has gone too far, Madam."

Winter leaned on the seat while caressing her flat belly, "I don’t know either. I feel like this is the right thing to do. I want to start a real family. I want to be a mother, and the only man in my mind other than Aiden is Sebastian. He might be a replacement for now, but I will eventually accept his love."

"I don’t understand you, Madam..."

"You don’t need to understand me. But I hope you can love my child in the future," Winter said.

"I will. I will never like him for what he had done to you, but I will protect your child with my life, Madam. Because it’s your child, and I promise to always protect everything about you for the rest of my life," Arthur promised solemnly.

Winter chuckled, "That’s nice. I guess my child should call you Uncle Arthur."

"U-Uncle?! B-but I’m just a driver and bodyguard."

"You are far more than that, Arthur," Winter said. "I see you as a family."

...

Winter sighed, knowing that Arthur’s silence meant that he didn’t want to accept that, "I know you have feelings for me, but I see you as a close confidant, and I want it to stay that way. If you want to resign, then I will make sure to give you a huge compensation for all of your dedication. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable while at work."

"No, Madam. I want to stay. I’m just trying to process what you said just now," Arthur said. "I don’t think I can ever let go of this love for you. But I’d rather toss this love if that means I can be with you. I truly want to dedicate myself."

Winter could feel Arthur’s sincerity, and she sighed pitifully, "Tell me if you ever find a woman... or a man, that you fancy. I will make sure to give you everything you need to get married."

Arthur doubted that he would ever fall in love with someone else. He would rather stay single until he retired.

"I will keep that in mind, Madam," Arthur said.

He stared at the road and his gaze started to blur a little.

He knew it was unsightly for a tough, military man like him to cry, but right now, he truly wanted to cry as he knew that his love would never be reciprocated.

’Ah, this heartbreak will pass, eventually,’ Arthur told himself as he continued driving.
