Madam Wants To Divorce Her Second Husband-Chapter 86
Chapter 86: Chapter 86
"Am I just a replacement?"
That question from Sebastian lingered in her head. She didn’t know how to react because the truth was all clear.
Even in her previous life, she married Sebastian as a replacement. She needed someone to take care of the company that Aiden left for her, and Sebastian happened to be the right man for it.
She also used Sebastian as a placeholder. She was heartbroken after Aiden’s death, and she thought that marrying another man would at least stop her from thinking about Aiden and ignoring all the suicidal thoughts in her head.
Sebastian was smart, capable, and very handsome. He had all the qualities that Aiden had, so she thought he would be a perfect choice.
She even thought she could forget about her late husband since Sebastian was far more handsome than Aiden.
But she was wrong.
This man and his mother were monsters in her previous life, and she began to cling to the idea of meeting Aiden in the afterlife as a desperate measure to be happy.
She just wasn’t sure if this Sebastian was the same monster as he seemed genuine with his feelings.
"Winter, am I a replacement for Aiden?" Sebastian repeated his question.
Winter closed her eyes. She wanted to lie, saying that she truly loved him. It might not be real, but it would give Sebastian peace of mind, right?
She opened her mouth, but before she could say a word, she changed her mind.
’No, this isn’t right. I shouldn’t delude him into thinking that we have something going on. I also can’t trick myself into thinking that this Sebastian isn’t a monster. We’ve just married, and he will show his true skin sooner or later,’ Winter thought.
Thus, she toughened her heart and replied, "Replacement is not the right term, Sebastian. You’re a stand-in."
"S-stand in?!" Sebastian thought that he would drop dead right there and then. He had been well prepared if Winter called him a replacement because that meant she would eventually accept him to replace Aiden as the only husband she had.
But a stand-in was far worse. It made Sebastian feel so shit.
"You are a good CEO to help my company, so I marry you. But if I find another man who’s better than you in managing the company, and without leech such as your cruel mother, then I’d marry him in a heartbeat," Winter said calmly, but each word felt like a stab straight through his chest.
He smiled bitterly, and quickly lowered his head so Winter wouldn’t be able to see his sadness, "You could’ve sugarcoated it a little, Winter."
"I will not sugarcoat it. You should know your place, so we can work well together to maintain Goldmine Realty," Winter said. freewebnσvel.cøm
She wanted to shift the topic so Sebastian would stop dwelling on this depressing stuff. But when she saw Sebastian looking so down, she knew she made a mistake.
They were just about to go to the charity auction event, and she needed him to be in tip-top shape, and the gloomy cloud casting over his head would make him fail to converse well with Lucien.
’I should’ve lied,’ Winter blamed herself. ’But can I even lie? I don’t want to keep misleading him.’
Winter sighed, "Look up, Sebastian."
Sebastian slowly lifted his head, staring at Winter with a reluctant gaze. He didn’t want to show his sadness, but since Winter told him so, then he had to do it.
"Are you sad because I called you a stand-in?" Winter asked, and Sebastian nodded.
"I don’t want to be a stand-in. I thought being a replacement was bad enough, but this is worse. Winter—no—wife, I’m serious about you—about us as a married couple," Sebastian said with sincerity. "I want to live a good life with you."
Sebastian was telling the truth, though he omitted a few details about his past life with Winter.
"Well, if you don’t want to be a stand-in anymore, then prove me wrong," Winter said. "Show me that you can be a good CEO for Goldmine Realty, turn it into a billion-dollar company instead. Show me that you’re a good husband who would never cheat on me, so I will eventually accept you, Sebastian Saenz."
Obviously, Winter was lying about half of it. She already knew he would cheat, and she would never accept this man because of the trauma Sebastian inflicted on her in their previous lives.
But he had to be in a good mood and clear mind for this event, he had to succeed no matter what, and Winter was willing to compensate for the success of her company.
Meanwhile, Sebastian felt that he just got a vitamin boost. He regained his vigor as he saw hope in front of him.
He wasn’t an idiot. Deep down, he knew that Winter was lying about all this. It wouldn’t be so easy to make her love him after all the shitty things he had done.
But he would rather cling to false hope than grim reality. He would do anything as long as he could be close to his wife.
"Alright then, I will show you how capable I am as a CEO. I will also prove my love to you," Sebastian said—which almost sounded like a vow.
Winter smiled, she patted his chest and said, "I’m excited to see what you will do next. Trust me, Sebastian, I’m a woman with fair judgment. I will fall in love eventually, as long as you treat me right."
Sebastian and Winter stared at each other for a while, and Sebastian slowly leaned closer for a kiss, but Winter tried to stop him.
"W-well, we’re running late for the event. Why don’t we go now?" Winter said.
"Yes, we should, but before that..." Sebastian leaned closer and gave Winter a soft kiss on the corner of her lips. "I don’t know if I can kiss you during the event, so I need to kiss you here."
