Madam Wants To Divorce Her Second Husband-Chapter 97
Chapter 97: Chapter 97
"Winter... I’m so sorry..." Sebastian said dejectedly. He was sorry for being weak-willed and also ignorant. He also felt sorry because he failed to give the most basic things such as jewelry to make her happy.
"I told you, it’s fine, Sebastian," Winter smiled. She chuckled seeing the tears welling up in his eyes. "Why are you crying? Do you want me to wipe it?"
"Wha—!" Sebastian quickly wiped the tears from his eyes. "N-no, it’s not tears. I—uh... I get dust in my eyes."
"Hmm. Sure, I believe that," Winter giggled.
Lucien had been staring at them, and the smug smile on his face vanished. He didn’t care about the ten million dollars. It wasn’t that much money for him to begin with.
He could use this as a tax write-off because the auction was meant to be for charity.
To have his tax written off and also to make Winter happy, there was nothing to feel unsatisfied about. But it pissed him off that Winter would go easy on this man who had nothing amazing going for him. He was just another young man who got lucky enough to be picked by Winter to be her new husband.
Lucien had a huge respect for Aiden but for Sebastian?
Unless this green boy found a way to impress him, then he would never back down from making Winter his wife.
"So, what do you think of the ruby necklace, Winter? Isn’t it beautiful?" Lucien asked, breaking the harmonious atmosphere between Winter and Sebastian.
Winter looked at him and smiled, "It’s beautiful. I’m sure you’ll make your woman happy, Lucien."
"Ah, well, too bad I don’t have any woman with me right now. So I’m going to give it to you later, got it?" Lucien said with a persuasive smile that Winter couldn’t reject.
"I—" Winter was in a dilemma right now. She could’ve just rejected the offer because she thought it was just too much for her. She also had a husband, so it would be disrespectful towards Sebastian.
’Since when do I have to take Sebastian’s feelings into consideration?’ Winter wondered. But seeing how frustrated Sebastian got over this matter made her feel bad. ’Then, should I just reject Lucien’s offer? But that would be disrespectful too, right? He spent ten million dollars to buy me a gift.’
Amid her dilemma, Sebastian quickly stepped up to protect her, "You can sell it to me, Mr. LeBlanc. I will buy it in cash."
Lucien scowled, "And why should I sell it to you? What benefit do I get when I intend to give it to Winter in the first place."
"You will get your tax written off with no cost," Sebastian said. "As fellow businessmen, I’m sure that counts as a big profit for you."
Lucien gritted his teeth because Sebastian was right.
Selling a piece of necklace for ten million dollars to write off his tax was the best thing he could get. It would be foolish if he rejected Sebastian’s offer.
Yet, he still didn’t want it, because when it was about Winter, there was no ’business’ in it.
He fell in love with Winter at first sight years ago, and the only thing that stopped him from chasing her was Aiden. Now that Aiden was gone, he had a valid chance to be with her.
"I plan on making it as a gift for Winter in the first place," Lucien refused. "Besides, I don’t think you should care about this small stuff, Sebastian. Don’t take this as a threat to your existence, this is just a mere gift between friends, right, Winter?"
"R-right..." Winter nodded weakly, thinking this was the best response she could say. "If it’s a gift for me, then I am very grateful, Lucien."
Sebastian said nothing. He had been defeated again.
Of course, he understood Winter’s position. She was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Whether she rejected the necklace or not, it would only put her in a difficult position.
Patricia had been watching in silence the whole time, and she finally raised her voice, "It seems that Mr. LeBlanc has other intentions. Mind telling me what you are trying to do by gifting a married woman ten million dollars ruby necklace?"
"Ten million dollars is nothing for people like us. You know that very well, Miss Jung," Lucien sneered. "It’s a small gift to strengthen my business relationship with Winter’s company, and also my friendship with her. Isn’t that clear enough or do I have to explain it twice to you?"
"Oh, I see. Well, pardon me for not being receptive. I’m just wondering what a single man is doing gifting a necklace to a married woman, but your response is perfect Sir," Patricia jabbed back. "It reeks desperation to me, though."
"Then, there must be something wrong with your nose, Miss Jung. Mind if I recommend a rhinologist who can treat your nose?"
"Thank you for the offer. But I prefer to use my money for better things, such as not flirting with a married woman."
"M-Miss Jung, I don’t mind—"
"Stay out of it, Winter. It’s not about you," Patricia said, even though it was obviously about her. "I just don’t like him. That’s all."
"What a coincidence. I also don’t like a pretentious, spoiled young lady as well," Lucien said.
Patricia and Lucien were glaring at each other. The hostility between them was apparent, and Winter was too busy trying to console Sebastian who tried his best not to look frustrated in front of Winter.
The event ended after a few more items had been successfully auctioned off. Winter and Sebastian walked out of the venue in a somber mood despite the success they obtained.
Sebastian had successfully struck a deal with a mega-rich hotelier, while she had successfully gotten what she wanted, the ruby necklace Aiden promised her before his death.
So what made the atmosphere somber?
Well, it was obviously because they were overly reliant on Lucien LeBlanc to get what they wanted.
